CLAN VÚLFUR
HISTORY & CULTURE

ANCIENT ORIGINS & PROUD TRADITIONS
The first confirmed appearance of the Vúlfur name was among the Mandalorian crusaders under the mythical Mandalore the Great, who ventured into conflict with the Jedi Order and the Republic. Whatever the truth behind the earliest appearances of the clan's name, the Vúlfurians of these earliest times lacked most of the characteristics that would set them apart from most of their fellows in the future.

Their destiny would soon take shape as the warriors of Mandalore clashed with the powerful Jedi Knights, inevitably finding themselves outmatched. Discontent with accepting such fate, the Vúlfurs adapted with remarkable speed as scientists, engineers, forgers, and gunsmiths. They poured their hearts and souls onto the development and the meticulous crafting of novelty weaponry, advanced hyperdrives, powerful warships, inventive combat vehicles, interplanetary ballistic missiles, thermonuclear warheads, and the finest of Mandalorian armor. These advanced inventions paved the way for several Mandalorian victories, allowing the Vúlfur to garner tremendous respect and prosperity within the Mandalorian clans. Of course, other clans had artisans of their own in the past, nonetheless never before had an entire lineage devoted itself to the crafts that were undeniably essential to the success of the Mandalorian crusaders.

Important to note is that the Vúlfurians did not forgo direct participation as Mandalorian crusaders, or they’d be branded as Hut’uuns, as cowards. A new tradition developed within the Vúlfur amidst these new circumstances, where the youngest of Vúlfurians were trained both as warriors and as craftsmen, then sent into battle to prove themselves as Mandalorians and to know war in a personal, profoundly visceral way. Only those who managed to survive long enough to be deemed war-hardened by the Vúlfurian elders were allowed to return to Mandalore, where they’d spent their lives developing and crafting the finest of equipment. However, some Vúlfurians outright refused this call, preferring to die on the battlefield as many of their Mandalorian brothers.

For their unique traditions, Clan Vúlfur gained a motto during their formative years: “Kar'tayl cuyir cuun ga'amur.” Knowledge is our weapon. Their artisans also received a name of their own: Verdgoran, a neology that combined the Mandalorian words for soldier and blacksmith. Since the time they first earned the title of verdgorans, the official colors of Clan Vúlfur have been black, representing the layer of oxides that forms on the surface of the metal during heating, and a ferrous red, representing the heated metals themselves. The mythosaur, whose scales the Vúlfurians used to craft armor and whose teeth they used to craft daggers, became their symbol.

Vúlfur remained a small clan, perhaps because their path was not as alluring as of the other Mandalorians, maybe because fewer warrior-artisans ensured the many secrets of the Vúlfurian trade would remain closely guarded. As their influence quickly outgrew their numbers, they began to attract the attention of more numerous and powerful Mandalorian houses, many of whom had already attracted the vassalage of many smaller clans. Some attempted to court the Vúlfur’s loyalty, while others tried to coerce it, but the modest Vúlfurians remained independent for centuries, endlessly proud of their unique traditions. Nonetheless, it was House Vizsla who eventually earned the Vúlfurian’s favor, and not by flattery or violence, but by their great honor and a profound sense of duty. The people of Clan Vúlfur respected the warriors of Clan Vizsla unlike any other, and within their ranks, they finally found leaders whom they’d subject their craft without reservations. The verdgoran of Clan Vúlfur worked alongside the proud warriors of Clan Vizsla for millenia.
THE MANDALORIAN CATACLYSM & ECONOMIC REBIRTH
The Mandalorian cataclysm would carve a traumatic scar onto the culture. While the fires of war scorched Mandalore’s natural beauty into a lifeless white desert, there was no mercy for the verdgorans of Clan Vúlfur. The Republic annihilated their forges by orbital bombardment, plundered and destroyed their shipyards, and viciously hunted down their people. When the fires died down, the people of Clan Vúlfur were left utterly hopeless, and other clans would often refer to them as Kyrayc aliit, the dead clan. Much of Clan Vúlfur’s historical records and secrets were lost during these years, creating a severance between the ancient Vúlfurians and their modern counterparts that was only be partly rectified by archeological efforts centuries later, but the path to becoming a verdgoran persisted. Clan Vúlfur would also grow discontent with House Vizsla, who did little to help them.

The fate of the Clan Vúlfur would change only with the founding of MandalMotors and Mandal Hypernautics. Despite cultural objections from many of the Mandalorian clans, the founding of MandalMotors and other Mandalorian companies was a tremendous economic success that reinvigorated the whole culture, and the few surviving verdgoran proved highly sought after as employees of these organizations. The Vúlfurians once again were quick to adapt to these new circumstances, becoming increasingly business-minded and amassing wealth to rival even House Vizsla. All while preserving their ancient tradition and rebuilding to their pre-cataclysm size, not growing any larger after that point to safeguard their secrets. They invested heavily in MandalMotors, Kalevala Spaceworks, and Concordian Crescent Technologies; while founding several companies of their own under the Vúlfur Consortium: VúlfurTek for weaponry, Mythosaur Trading for shipping, the Sundari Tech Institute for droids, and Mandalore Laboratories for cybernetics. However, as diversified as their industries were, Clan Vúlfur refused to sell a single suit of armor or ingot of beskar to outsiders.

Now owners of a megacorporation and a recently discovered aptitude for economics and commerce, Clan Vúlfur earned a secondary, non-official motto: "Waadas cuyir shi shol'shya ara at akaan." Commerce is just another form of waging war. Doing business with most of the known galaxy, even the hated Republic, was just another form of continued conquest in the eyes of the verdgoran. Unfortunately, their growing size and power began to drive a wedge between them and their centuries-long allies within House Vizsla, who looked down upon the new Vúlfurian tradition, most particularly their extensive hiring of outsiders, and suspected their growing proximity with House Kryze. These fears would motivate the warriors of House Vizsla to undermine Vúlfurian prosperity, moving against them whenever possible and often deeming them traitors.

Growing tensions eventually culminated when warriors of Vizsla and Vúlfur brawled within a Vúlfurian hyperdrive factory. The fistfight rapidly grew out of control and transformed into a small but lethal skirmish when a massive explosion rocked the facility. Defeated and bruised, the elders of Clan Vúlfur saw this as a breakage of the millennia's old pact between Clan Vúlfur and House Vizsla, and the Vúlfurians quickly brokered vassalage with House Kryze. Although nonetheless a strange occurrence for the time, it proved to be only a small part of the prelude to the political and cultural conflict among the people of Mandalore that would become the Mandalorian Civil War.
THE MANDALORIAN CIVIL WAR & THE NEW MANDALORIANS
The Vúlfurians joined the New Mandalorians and their allies from the Jedi Order when the Civil War began, fighting alongside the hated enemies of the past. Partly to maintain the freedom they’d enjoyed as wealthy businessmen, partly to prevent the Old Mandalorians from dragging the culture into yet another cataclysm. The victory cemented Clan Vúlfur’s role as both businessmen and warriors, but as the fires of the Mandalorian Civil War waned, the verdgoran would remain peaceful for decades. The wealth of Clan Vúlfur was instrumental in rebuilding Mandalore, financing new institutions such as the Royal Academy of Government, the Mandalore Banking Center, and the Mandalorian Guard. Many verdgorans who fought in the war would also go on to join these institutions, and the Mandalorian Secret Service and Mandalorian Royal Guard.

When the Death Watch emerged from the shadows, Clan Vúlfur was targeted in several saboteur attacks, sending the Vúlfur Consortium into chaos and claiming the lives of several verdgorans. The insurrection quickly grew with the arrival of Darth Maul and the formation of his Shadow Collective, attracting particular disdain from the Vúlfurians due to the alliance struck with criminal syndicates like the Black Sun and Crimson Dawn, which had preyed upon Mandalorian business for decades. The Death Watch eventually besieged Sundari, deposing Duchess Satine Kryze and her New Mandalorian government while killing many verdgorans in the process, most of whom had never seen actual combat before. Despite their tremendous success, Darth Maul thwarted the Death Watch’s victory by defeating Pre Vizsla.

Enraged by the death of Satine, Clan Vúlfur marched as warriors for the first time since the rise of the New Mandalorians, fighting the Mandalorian super commandos. Initially conducting their operations independently, the Vúlfurians had not fought a war in decades, and their warrior proved inexperienced and hopelessly outmatched by Maul’s super commandos. The elders found that their only hope for victory was an alliance with Bo-Katan Kryze and her Mandalorian Resistance, whose trained warriors could imprint their experience and abilities upon the young verdgorans. Bo-Katan was also undeniably bolstered by the alliance, gaining the support of the Vúlfurian factories that had not been hijacked by the Shadow Collective.

Clan Vúlfur mobilized almost all their forces during the closing moments of the Siege of Mandalore, fighting alongside both the Mandalorian resistance and the Galactic Republic. Amidst the fires of battle, the verdgoran regained much of the respect lost over the last century and reconnected with a forgotten part of their culture. While the Mandalorian resistance was victorious, the galaxy suffered an unexpected transformation, slowly ushering the victorious Mandalorian culture into perhaps a tragedy to rival even the Mandalorian cataclysm.
THE RISE OF THE SITH & THE FALL OF THE MANDO’ADE
The verdgoran preserved their loyalty to Bo-Katan Kryze as the Galactic Empire occupied Mandalore, which would have a tremendous cost. The Empire nationalized all of the Vúlfurian Consortium, effectively stripping the verdgorans of almost all their wealth and factories. What remained was used to construct the Aranov, a massive underground bunker hidden below the swamps of Zanbar. Bankrupt and hopeless, the few remaining verdgoran distanced themselves from business and once again acted as artisans, crafting specialized weaponry and armor for members of the Mandalorian resistance, often taking up arms to assist their brothers.

The Vúlfur supported Bo-Katan wherever they could, maintaining their loyalty to House Kryze and supporting her leadership of the Mandalorian resistance. The future looked promising when Bo-Katan regained the Darksaber, attracting many of the Mandalorian clans to her leadership. The Mandalorian defiance of the Empire was perhaps the greatest in the entire galaxy, but it would prove fatal when the Empire enacted the Great Purge.

The Great Purge was a horrible act of genocide that left the proud Mandalorian broken, perhaps even more so than when the Galactic Republic wrought the Mandalorian cataclysm upon them. For their knowledge of beskar and their unwavering loyalty to Bo-Katan Kryze, the Empire tortured Clan Vúlfur. The verdgoran were hunted into near extinction, driven to the edges of space, and forced to hide along Mandalorian coverts, the handful of surviving members scattered across the galaxy. Two of them journeyed to the Aranov, spending the remainder of their lives as stewards to the decaying Vúlfurian legacy. Two Vúlfur warriors joined Marh Vúlfur, heir of the ruling Vúlfurian patriarch and the sole Vúlfurian Nite Owl to ever exist, and ventured to the Outer Rim where they established a Mandalorian covert. One warrior remained alongside Bo-Katan, keeping the alliance between the clans alive. One would go on to join the rebellion, driven by a profound hatred against the Sith, winning a hollow victory when the Empire collapsed that did absolutely nothing to restore Vúlfurian glory. The other five verdgoran separated, joining Mandalorian coverts across the galaxy either as bounty hunters or as armorers.

Thus concludes the most recent chapter of the Vúlfurian legacy. The century passed, and Clan Vúlfur remained broken and separated, their legacy forgotten as the Aranov decayed in solitude. However, Marh’s last descendant Khusēh Vúlfur led a decade-long journey in search of the Aranov. Khusēh deems of little importance the broken remains of the Aranov’s warehouses. All that matters is the cultural legacy drenched within every excavated wall. All that matters is that his son be raised not as a bounty hunter... but as a true verdgoran.

ASSETS
All past assets of the Vúlfurian are now destroyed, except the underground fortress Aranov. Dilapidated, and with most of its useful features buried under rubble, it can be nothing beyond a secretive home if not extensively repaired. Will have it’s very own post if the clan is approved.

CURRENT MEMBERS
Phe'odorus Vúlfur, son of Khusēh Vúlfur. (My character to be, not yet completed).

INTENT
Greatly inspired by the Armorer in the Mandalorian series, the New Mandalorians in Clone Wars, and the very existence of something like MandalMotors, the primary goal was to flesh out an unique clan for my upcoming character, but also to create an ancient Mandalorian clan of artisans and engineers, providing explanation and depth on an often overlooked aspect of Mandalorian culture.
