DESCRIPTION

A newer site to the galaxy, the Comet class Star Yacht was designed in the in the wake of the demilitarization of the galaxy. In an effort to still provide luxury vessels to the public, Latero Spaceworks designed and manufactured the Comet class Star Yacht. Their history with the S-161 "stinger" XL helped keep the company in a positive light and running despite the conflict the galaxy brings. The company decided to continue focusing on performance and leisure instead of fire power, they managed to design one of the galaxy's larger luxury yachts to date.

First and foremost, the Comet class star yacht has very limited weaponry with only three laser cannon turrets. Stationed in the back of the ship is a small hangar bay. The profile and dimensions of the door limit ships to being starfighter in size or smaller. Shuttles, bulky bombers and most light freighters can't enter the hangar. In fact, it is because of this 'compact' hangar that often owners simply use it as extra storage for recreational vehicles or even convert it into a gym. While the ship's limited armaments makes it potentially rely on starfighter support. The interior of the hangar houses limited maintenance facilities for small craft onboard. It is not advised to try to enter the hangar with any craft larger than 12 meters in any given dimension.

A large ship, the Comet class is meant for long vacations with a reserve supply of top shelf consumables for months and an additional three hundred tons of cargo capacity. Some people might consider that low as even some freighters a fraction of its size can carry more. That is because of the sacrifices made to make sure the Comet class could still handle properly even when fully stocked and bearing a full compliment of starfighters and crew.

Most of the first level is utilitarian. Starting at the fore of the ship is the docking tube and associated breaching compartments. Further aft is the main cargo hold that has climate control storage and civilian grade security monitoring with simple motion/temperature scanners that report to the bridge if any alarms are triggered. More often than not this is just to prevent stowaways and monitor the status of the food and supplies since the ship's consumables are also kept in this area. Then comes engineering where the jump drive and most other mechanical maintenance is conducted. Any droids charging stations are often integrated here. A short hall leads to the aft most compartment which is the first open space in the vessel and can house four small starfighters or an additional 100 tons of cargo instead.

The second level is where all the rest and relaxation occurs. At the front of the Comet is a cultivated and unique green house nature room. No two Comet class Luxury Yachts have the same green room since commissioners will request them to often be designed to specifically reflect their preferences. Ithorians might have numerous flowers from their homeworld or a Quarren might have an expanded pool and keep their pets. A total of 8 rooms are available for passengers and provide all the comforts of high class travel. There is also a kitchen dining area, a lounge and perhaps its biggest drawback, a shared bathroom. This is the standard design and something that is argued to be a rushed decision on Lateros's end. After market conversions have compensated for this. In addition, the ship's armory is located furthest to the back of the ship. The elevator located near the armory will take its members up to the third level. The third level is essentially just the bridge of the ship. The external turrets are controlled by the bridge crew.

It should be noted that the minimal crew of 3 does not allow the ship to perform as an ideal luxury yacht. In fact if there is not an optimal crew, often the ship's over all performance will degrade due to the maintenance and upkeep required to have a luxury vessel work in top condition. This is a vessel often owned by people who can afford having private security fighter pilots, hire a personal gardner, chef, and have the capital to purchase a pleasure vessel that is larger than some corvettes. Maintaining a Comet class yacht in of itself can be costly.


LEGALITY
Legal. A Stary Yacht such as the the Comet class luxury yacht are considered innocuous enough under most jurisdictions, and are not restricted in most systems. It is actually the fact the ship can house starfighters that it is often required to provide identification upon arrival in certain systems. Backwater planets may have yet to update their scanner database to recognize the Comet class.

INTENT
To create an interesting luxury yacht that could be used for privateering but also cater to something other than the typical bounty hunter/soldier type ship design for diplomats and other player run businesses.

RESTRICTIONS
Comet class star yacht have become popular with the galaxy's elite, but are not easy or cheap to obtain. They are typically faction assets, although they could also serve as the focal point of a player run business venture. Because of the sophisticated design of the vessel, weapon upgrades are not compatible with this ship.
