Concord Dawn

Concord Dawn is known as a fiercely independent backwater world. first settled by colonizers from Mandalore in an attempt to expand their own territory and keep to the ways of the Concordian Accords founded on Mandalore's moon, Concordia. This was a new step for the Mandalorian people. in the very beginning many were united in the settling of the planet. there was space for everyone and they were all of the same generation of warriors. but soon immigrants from Mandalore turned to natives of Concord Dawn, having fresh generations of their own. as when two stubborn people but heads it is like an unstoppable force meeting and immovable object.

the Mandalorians that originally settled Concord Dawn were warriors and humble individuals simply looking to settle down and provide for themselves. they had no problem supporting their family members in the greater mandalorian scheme. but as any mandalorian would want their home world of mandalore to be free and independent so did the natives of Concord Dawn. this led to many internal conflicts with families, friends and previous affiliations. it was borderline civil war and continued for decades between the two worlds.

the original Mandalorian Settlers hoped there to be rich mineral and ore deposits on the untapped planet like Mandalore and Concordia had. unfortunately they were not as plentiful as they had once thought. decades after initial attempts there were findings of significant deposits but these were not nearly as large as once hoped. historians think this to actually be a good thing and keep the backwater planet unbothered and isolated as it had become. otherwise corporations and other entities would have flocked to the planet to claim its recourses and meddled in the planet's affairs. but for the time being it was just the natives of Concord Dawn and their sister planet that had dealings over the location.

Over time both Concord Dawn and Mandalore increased contact with the Republic and the Border Alliance. both of the planets did not see any issue with the Republic and the Ba as long as they both kept their own ways of life. seeing the two systems as two siblings hashing things out the outside influinces knew well enough to not get imbroiled in Mandalorian related affairs and so stayed out of the conflicts and debates between planets. Concord Dawn provided a great deal of agricultural products to the Republic that recognized it as a valuable resource. troops that joined the Border Alliance were often tough and resilient as well as just as effective as their Mandalorian brethren.

at one point, when the Concord Dawn system was relatively quiet, numerous private vessels explored the moons of Concord Dawn. to their surprise the orbiting bodies had what the planet lacked, a great deal of iron ore. though the three moons are all arid desert landscapes from pole to pole this did not stop the Concord Dawn people from beginning mining operations. because the system was securely held by the people of Concord Dawn there was no concern of invasion from companies and nations. This allowed a great swell in the local economy and boost manufacturing as well as military might for Concord Dawn. the iron that was found wasn't as strong as the Mandalorian Iron, or Beskar, was rumored to be but was still a valuable discovery that helped elevate Concord Dawn as an independent system. there had almost been another war on this discovery between the Mandalore natives and the locals of Concord Dawn but once the fact that the durability was not as great as beskar things cooled down. there are still rumors of watchful eyes waiting to see if the mines unearth some hidden load of legendary ore though this remains to be seen.

a century prior to present day, during the eighty-sixth Concord Dawn War, the Mand'alor was killed. House Kryze who had made good on a number of efforts to settle things between Mandalore and Concord Dawn had won over a number of the people of Concord Dawn but House Genet had elected their own clan leader for the recently opened position. at this time House Genet was a major player of power in the colonized government of Concord Dawn along with Clan Skirata. Clan Kryze led a strike force along with members of Clan Vizla against clan Genet. with the help of Clan Skirata they drove out members of Genet house save for a few remaining loyal members that knew their own clan had become internally corrupt. House Genet had not been wholly united in their schemes and led to them fracturing and separating of the house to only a single clan.

this had been a sign that Mandalorians were not wholly united and led to a time of introspection throughout all of Mandalorian space. Concord Dawn was separate from Mandalore and houses as well as even lesser clans wondered if the system they upheld were the right way of life. recognizing this, the remaining Houses agreed a smaller House should be put in place to rule Concord Dawn. so the House of Skirata was put into power and the independence of Concord Dawn was agreed upon by Mandalore and its sister planet. the squabbles of the various clans and planets died down allowing Concord Dawn to leave in coexistence with its sister planet and even prosper

coming back from hiding, once members of House Genet now known as members of The Sacred Band of Ziost, these "Mandalorian Crusaders" attacked Mandalore and decimated the Fett Clan. few members on Mandalore survived and there were a few that resided in estrangement on Concord Dawn. Concord Dawn made an effort to assist their sister planet in taking on the Sacred Band of Ziost and the Crusaders. this new threat and affront united Mandalorian space against a common enemy. the Crusaders were an affront to both the Mandalorian people as well as the people of Concord Dawn.

Culture

The greater galaxy will cock an eyebrow in ignorance at the name of Concord Dawn more often than not. to some it is just a backwater planet that is shadowed by Mandalore. but to those that have interacted with the planet and its people know it to be a harsh planet with an enduring people. sometimes called "the world of a hundred wars" the culture of Concord Dawn is very much like that of its Mandalorian brothers but far more humble and away from the spotlight. in fact a great number of the Mandalorian Clans and Houses have relatives that live on Concord Dawn and travel between systems frequently.

what once was a grudgeful hesitance between the two planets now has turned into peaceful acceptance, seeing the two planets as more valuable independent than they could be under one ruler. many natives still call themselves Mandalorian as many do if born and raised in Mandalorian space. conflict is not a strange concept to the people of Concord Dawn. they see it as an inevitable and equally necessary part of life. without conflict one cannot become better than they already are.

Self sufficiency is a proud capability of Concord Dawn and the backwards lack of complicated technology is a side effect of this. many farmers provide for their own families as well as export off planet. the idea of community also builds on this idea allowing for one village or town to take care of itself from the greater planet. where as a normal family in the greater galaxy might have one father and one mother raise a child the extended family of a clan often raises a child allowing for stronger bonds and more open minded upbringing. also each member of a clan is quite capable of defending themselves. most often in the form of self defense more so than anything, others often develop their skills beyond this and become very adept at martial arts.

because the system boasts a large amount of iron based industry most things like farm equipment, transport, and structures are reinforced with the refined material. though not as elegant as perhaps the creations of Naboo the tools used by the people of Concord Dawn have a famous durability and reliabilty to them. if one were to claim a speeder was made on Concord Dawn two things can be certain, it is well used and can be relied to continue to be used without fear of inconvenient failure or damage.

even though they may be humble and open minded to others, the people of Concord Dawn are just as stubborn as their mandalorian brethren if not more so. each child is encouraged to find their own path in life whether it be a farmer, a craftsman or any other profession. many people try their capability at a job only to find it isn't what they thought. this is a part of self-learning and finding one's self.

Education on Concord Dawn is either home schooled though if a family lives in a larger town they have communal teaching and classes. after this the youth may choose to go to a university or get hands on experience in a field and become an apprentice. other than this the education of the youths on Concord Dawn are very much like that of any other planet. most notable is the multiple languages many children learn at an early age as most can speak at least two if not several languages fluently by young adulthood. in addition most are skilled in surviving in the wilderness like hunting and tracking or basic land and nautical navigation.

Government

The Government of Concord Dawn is a democratic one with the president at the top. the president also holds a small council or cabinet of trusted advisors and appointed officials that see to education, military, security, agriculture and more. the planet is split up into various territories, all led and overseen by Magistrates. these magistrates act very much like state governors but hold more power as they also act as supreme justice in their area of jurisdiction and see to the law and order of their territory or state. under the magistrate.

law enforcement of the planet is appointed to the Concord Dawn Marshal Service or simply CD Marshals for short. the marshals were first founded in the early years of Concord Dawn back when it was still tied closely to Mandalore. the call for law enforcement was necessary and good judgement was need in the isolated and expansive wilderness of Concord Dawn so the CDMS was created. they marshals act as a system wide law enforcement organization that track down fugitives, oversee conservation and other judicial activities. as it is known the law on Concord Dawn can be firm but fair. a certain amount of freedom is granted to a marshal at his or her discretion in upholding the law, adding to the wild and rough nature of the planet. their main office is located in Shonruss along with the main houses of various Clans and capital.

planetary defense is not as great concern to the people of Concord Dawn. each household can defend itself in its own right as they held their own against Mandalore in numerous wars. in addition to having assistance from Mandalore and the Border Alliance, most natives have limited combat training and can make a substantial guerilla unit at a moment's notice.

still the planet maintains a reserve Fleet of ships and marines in the system in the case of hostile action. this consists of a handful of corvettes a few frigates and destroyers. this small fleet stays for the most part within the Concord Dawn system, occasionally venturing out into greater Mandalorian space for exercises with Mandalorian and Border Alliance ships. it is perhaps the shear number of individually owned starships that makes potential pirates and invaders hesitant to act within the system. these ships are usually armed in some shape or form, normally bordering on illegal standards for the republic if not surpassing it. but the lack of crime and piracy as well as violence in the system keep questioning officials away.

House names do not hold as much importance as they once did, certainly not in the government either. now House Skirata still holds control of and leads the government as the President, but the people do not require a firm hand to direct their way of life. other clans and houses come and go in power and importance but it is more of a formality than anything else. another clan could take Skirata's place but so far the people have no problem with it and if anything ever changes there would sure to be an obvious showing of it amongst the people.

the original Mandalorian Settlers hoped there to be rich mineral and ore deposits on the untapped planet. unfortunately they were not as plentiful as they had once thought. decades after initial attempts there were findings of significant deposits but these were not nearly as large as once hoped. historians think this to actually be a good thing and keep the backwater planet unbothered and isolated as it had become. otherwise corporations and other entities would have flocked to the planet to claim its recourses and meddled in the planet's affairs.

Points of Interest

The surface of Concord Dawn is covered in a variety of terrains. a few Oceans and Seas exist as well as large lakes. jungles, deserts and arid plains take on most of the landscape though the planet is very rich in nutrients making farming an exceptionally viable resource to export and farming a common profession. towards the poles the plains turn into forested rolling hills and around cooler mountain regions exist rainforests, jungles and eventually frozen tundra. most people travel through the wilds to various towns and villages since only the largest of towns have consistent paths of travel by land. usually rivers and other bodies of water allow for access and transportation between towns.

Shonruss is the captial of Concord Dawn and has been since the very early settling of the planet. it's large market and space port allows for it to be the primary trading hub of Concord Dawn as well as goverenment nerve center of the planet. here Clan Skirata maintains order and the primary office of the Dawn Marshals as well as multiple offices of other organizations resides here.

Jartra is both the largest freshwater lake on Concord Dawn as well as the largest city that resides on its shores. many rivers run to and from the large lake that is greater than most seas on Concord Dawn. the bountiful fishing and ease of water based travel allow for a thriving economy amongst the various towns and villages that line its edge as well as those farther inland that connect through the numerous waterways. even other natives of Concord Dawn sometimes have trouble navigating the winding streams and rivers if they aren't from the area.

[fancybox4=http://orig13.deviantart.net/7ea5/f/2013/311/0/f/valley_by_donmalo-d6tcozq.jpg]Kyanajin[/fancybox4]
an isolated location even by Concord Dawn standards. hidden within numerous valleys and dells of bordering the desert plains. Kyanajin is more of a string of small villages and homesteads that keep to themselves even from the greater populace of Concord Dawn. the season rarely changes but the terrain is difficult. the air is much thinner but there is a great amount of beauty at this altitude. most farmers that live there are subsistent and travelers from other parts of the globe come in pilgrimage of self sufficiency and isolation. mountains exist for hundreds of miles towards the coast but it is too harsh of an environment by even Concord Dawn standards to venture into and live in for any extended period of time.

To the far north a few hundred miles inland from one of Concord Dawn's oceans exists rolling hills and bluffs that once was mining town. it was one of the first mining settlements by the mandalorians who first colonised the planet but they didn't find much in the way of minerals and ores as they had initially thought. surprisingly it wasn't until a few decades later that such veins and deposits existed even farther north though only in limited amounts. but the settlers stayed and worked as hunters, trappers and farmers. the surplus of lumber from rainforests allowed for plentiful trading between other towns and villages. the town is also held in great renown for being one of the hardiest and most seasoned hunters on all of Concord Dawn.

Government: Pyramid-shaped democratic government with President as leader. Senate representation in the Republic. Several other planetary offices.
Technology: Galaxy standard in limited amount
Satellites: Orbited by three moons

Language(s): Galactic basic, Mando'a (CD dialect), Deveronese

Intent: due to the lack of detail in the new canon i wanted to expand on what already existed and make a bridge from what the old canon/legacy portrayed Concord Dawn to be and how it is in this timeline. i personally have a number of characters that have interacted with Concord Dawn and i've seen a number of others as well so i want to have a consistent write up of the planet and it's people. I also plan to make a senator in the future and would like to have more detail on the planet he represents.

let me know any feedback you want to give. i was thinking about adding clans like how the clans were done for the Onderon write up but since they don't matter as much for Concord Dawn i'm hesitant.

Checking if this is in the process of approval, tagging the folks who seem in the know on that: @Darasuum and @Dmitri. Just a new member hoping to use a decent amount here for my character's backstory, but would rather check if I could get away with it or not before postin' something that ain't allowed.

You have to wait until this gets approved before you can reference it's contemts. Otherwise you can only do whats on wookieepedia's canon section. But i'd like to read your character anyways until then. Majority of my characters have some relation to CD.

Will do, @Darasuum. Still working out the kinks, aside from the obvious parts involving CD, but I'll send it your way on completion. Maybe we can even work out some details regarding specific Mandalorian Clans on the planet.

Always love Concord Dawn myself. Its semi-Mandalorian and mostly backwater. Just an enjoyable concept overall for me.

Looks good to me, but you should probably make edits to match up with the recent history (like the rise of the Death Watch or the revision of Border Alliance into the Grand Army of Republic)

Yeah i was thinking that and also for haringars chosen but that "died" and idk if death watch will last much longer too. Still i'll probably edit it. I didn't want to keep things to specific since things change quickly on this site.

You stated that Concord Dawn cooperates with Mandalore, but the whole Death Watch etc complicates things. Just tell me when you make edits, I'll look over it and approve. Make it either more vague-ish, or more accurate to the recent history, both are fine with me.

@Breeso i basically just removed the "presently" area so that the history stops before this timeline began. that way it doesn't have to be constantly updated and stays open to current interpretation.

everything else has stayed the same for the most part.
