The Black Lion exited hyperspace outside the Tython system. A few more minutes and the Kraken-class space yacht landed in one of the Jedi docking bays. As the ramp lowered, Nero disembarked from his ship.

Nero was here for two reasons. The first to attend a class being taught by the Grand Master. The second was to complete a task his instructor, Augustus, had assigned him: build his own lightsaber. While Nero could have researched all he needed to on the Will of the Force, the ship lacked materials to build a lightsaber. But Augustus didn't want Nero to build a lightsaber, he wanted Nero to build his own personal lightsaber, one that fit him.

Nero traveled to the archives, a vast collection of Jedi knowledge. If he was to find anything helpful in making a lightsaber, here was the place.

Nero walked up to the first Jedi he found.

"Excuse me, but where my I find information on lightsaber constuction, varying from basic construction to customizatin," Nero asked the Jedi.

The Jedi had brought him over to a consule where a query was done. Dozens of files appeared, ranging from basics to customized lightsabers by former Jedi.

Nero concocted his battle strategy. First, he'd learn the basics. Always try to learn the basics. Advanced skills can only be learned by mastering basics first. Once that was done, he'd indulge into customization. He'd look at examples, comparing how they fit with their masters.

Nero accessed the first file on lightsaber mechanics. He found a model in the file.

Nero read that the typical lightsaber hilt as a metallical hilt averaging between twenty to thirty-five centimeters in length. Inside, a Diatium power cell operated most of the mechanisms inside which would convert the energy into plasma. The plasma would be molded into a beam-like blade through the usage of a series of crystals; one of the main crystals generally determined the color of the blade.

How I constuct the mechanics will determine the strength of it, especially which crystals I use, thought Nero. He decided that if given the choice, he'd choose a blue lightsaber.

There were also different types of lightsabers, besides the standard one. Electrum lightsabers were ones gifted to high ranking Jedi. Double-bladed lightsabers, with some customized to detach into seperate standard lightsabers. Guard shotos were tonfa-styled lightsabers. Crossguard lightsabers had forked blades, though few event tried to use them. There were some with curved-hilts and others with longer handles. There were deviants such as spear-like pikes and sabercanes. There were even lightwhips.

Nero decided he might wish to go with the double-bladed lightsaber. However, his main focus wouldn't be double-bladed lightsaber combat. Instead, it would be to allow for a second blade to be attached to his first, to allow him to draw a second blade quicker.

Nero accessed a file on customization. He discovered his hunch was correct. How he constructed the components, especially the crystals, determined the properties of the lightsaber. There was a picture of three examples of customized lightsabers.

Nero researched into classical examples of customized lightsabers from the Jedi Lords to the earlier days of the New Jedi Order. If was to customize a lightsaber, he had to personalize it to his needs, to himself.

Nero began drawing plans for a lightsaber. Lighter lightsabers allowed for greater speed, but less strength. Heavier lightsabers allowed for greater strength and damage but were slower. So which to choose?

Nero grinned. I know.

He would choose both. His disconnecting double-lightsaber would contain identical looking blades, but one would be light and the other sturdier. It would allow him to work with both kinds of lightsabers. Even if an enemy discovered there were seperate qualities, it would be difficult to differenciate between the two blades.

Nero stood up. Plans and models for lightsabers were good, but only if he wanted to keep it in theory.

It was time to obtain materials for his machination.

He set forth to find lightsaber crystals.

Nero spent hours search for the perfect crystal. Once he was done, he had gone to find parts for his lightsaber. He immediately went to find the mechanics for his weapon.

A day later, he was ready for construction. After going through the blueprints again, he decided to tweak the designs, to make the outer covering silver, rather than menacing black.

It took Nero half the day to construct his newfound weapon. The lightsaber cradled a blue blade. The hilt was slim yet sturdy, to allow for quick movement but not taxing strength. When it was complete, he pondered on a name.

"What should I call it? A name defies it as much as the user," Nero recited from one of the books he had read.

After much thought, Nero still couldn't think of a good one. He was about to give up all hope when he thought of it. The best name that fit both him and his weapon.

Hope.
