The news tune plays and a camera moves away from the Crime Wach News logo to pan in to the esteemed decades-long head-anchor Rynn Run and.. wait, is that Preef Callo!? Isn't he dead?
Rynn, a true professional, scrapes his throat and shuffles the two datapads on his fancy desk. "Welcome to Crime Watch News, I'm Rynn Run," his voice sounds a bit scruffy as if he had only just himself accepted the shock of his long-dead co-anchor suddenly not being dead and he slowly shakes his head before looking to his right, where the legendary gunslinger Preef Callo sits, smiling to the camera. "Joined today for the first time in nearly twenty years, by none other than the Legendary Gunslinger-" he paused, clearly still not quite comfortable with praising the shooting skills of a murderer, "-Preef Callo."
The aged rodian next to him smiled at the camera, "Thank you, Rynn. It's good to be back." He paused for applause from the deserted studio and the prestigious Hutt looking at them off-camera -they were in his palace, after all- didn't lower himself to provide an applause by clapping his wormy hands. "A lot has changed in the criminal underworld," the rodian hooked his suction fingers to denote the absurdity of calling his way of life, the way of life for much of the Outer Rim, the 'criminal underworld'.
Rynn seemed to want to interupt his fellow rodian to suggest the former leader of the Crymorah Syndicate should read from the teleprompter, but then remembered the previous broadcasts he did with Preef and how he had improvised everything from his hello's to executing Hutt Lorda's live on the HoloNet. He.. well, he reconsidered and let the gunslinger say whatever he wanted to say.
"and it's true! A lot has happened, you see-" Preef motioned for the camera's to pan out and the audience at home could then clearly see the human frozen in carbonite behind him, "-outsiders tore apart the fragile alliance of the Five Syndicates. The Hutt cartel rose from its ashes, the Pyke Syndicate stirred the pot and some say-" he pretended to whisper as the camera zoomed back in on him, "-even the Crimson Dawn has awoken from its slumber."
Ofcourse, the Black Sun was still pretty much dead. Preef himself had killed one of their main enforcers on Kessel ages ago and after their unlucky alliance with a Sith Lord the once powerful syndicate hadn't quite managed to make an impact for ages.
Rynn now saw his moment and shuffled his datapads, "And you've returned from the dead, Mister Callo."
For a moment a dead silence fell over the broadcast as Preef had clearly not wished to be interupted and yet this supposed veteran news anchor had.. but the gunslinger wasn't the same man he was a decade ago. He wouldn't just draw on the man and kill him! Haha. Hah. "That's right," he merely said, "so has the Zaa Fenn." It had been a long road for everyone involved, but Preef had found the remaining members of the Zaa Fenn Crime Family and officially adopted Kara into their ranks. Their new headquarters was the Belching Frog Saloon and they had reconnected with the other ruling crime families of the Crymorah Syndicate now that Covax was on ice. This, ofcourse, only those that were part of this so-called 'criminal underworld' knew of a fact.
Rynn Run dry-swallowed. He had reported on the meteoric rise of the Zaa Fenn Crime Family back in the day and knew this was the outfit that, while operating from Eriadu, had helped the Sith in three invasions, almost obliterated the Hutt Cartel and all but ruled the entire galactic underworld. It was only after the -apparently faked- death of Preef Callo that others had dared to move against it.
"May I ask who is behind us?" Rynn asked, realizing he hadn't even asked this question before they went live. He almost expected Preef to unfreeze the man and execute him in front of a live audience again. That seemed to be a recurring thing. Yet, the old gunslinger made no movement to do that and instead motioned for the camera to take both him and the slab of carbonite in view for the galaxy to see. "Good question, Rynn. This man is Shane Covax, the president of Tenloss Interstellar, a paramilitary company for hire. He was hired to take down the Zaa Fenn." and clearly he failed. Rynn immediately realized that this entire sham of a broadcast was to show that whoever hired this Covax had failed in their attempt to destroy the crime family and take what was theirs. Was the old gunslinger baiting whoever had hired the mercenary? Was he making a point that crime should be left to the criminals, not soldiers pretending to be one?
Kriff, Rynn better make an end to this quickly before he, too, would become the target of some underworld conspiracy. With a desperately stern look towards his cameraman he reclaimed the viewer's attention: "And on that bombshell, For Crime Watch News, this was Preef Callo and Rynn Run. Good night, and good news."
