Kashyyyk, FWA Planet, 1421 Hours

It was something Fynn hadn't thought he would be doing, but here he was. Today he took both little Muara and little Layla out to find them an animal of sorts to keep them occupied. Most definitely nothing dangerous like giant spiders or anything. It would be even more of a problem to handle if Maura was in charge of something dangerous. Who knows what anarchy would await.

Arriving on the planet clad in his explorer's gear, he would walk the two padawans out and into the crisp air of the Wookiee homeland. Although there were dangerous animals on this planet, there would also be some small cute cuddly ones that are somewhat harmless. One to include Rain Dancers. Some majestic animals that can create a force bond with a person and cherish them for as long as they live. "Remember you two.. stick with me. Can't be running off at the first sight of anything cool."

Their surroundings would be that of the natural flora, giant trees, large weeds. Sand, dirt, mud all covering the planet's surface. Fynn was legitimately a babysitter, but the terms used for this was chaperone, or just responsible adult. It wasn't any skin off his back though, got him a break from Councilor duties as well as built a chemistry with the Padawans. Then Sephi looked at the two and asked em, "Which direction do y'all wanna go?"

This is where the fun begins.

Layla's first instinct at Fynn's question was to point a finger right back at the ship. Head back, get one board, and fly straight back to Yavin. But she knew that wasn't really a possibility. So she kept her mouth shut, a common feature on her face, and shrugged noncommittally. She didn't like being put on the spot, and thankfully she knew just enough of her fellow padawan to know that she wouldn't mind, so she let her take on the burden of this responsibility. Not that she wouldn't have done the same if her partner hadn't been someone like Maura.

Of course she hadn't accounted for actually spotting something "cool" as Fynn had called it, something cool enough to draw the attention of even her. But spot something she did, and drawn by it she was. It was a slight twinkle that caught her eye just as they were walking past a slight clearing. She stopped, looking back but not spotting anything. She started walking again, and saw it again from the corner of her eye as she took another step.

She stopped and moved towards the sparkle, which lead her to a patch of moss covering the ground, and dropped to a knee. She poked at the moss, and felt something solid underneath. A few quick swipes and she found the culprit. A little piece of something, it sparkled as she held it up, and seemed to be a part of something bigger, as indicated by its cracked edges.

"I found something." She called out with great effort, voice barely carrying over the sounds of the forest, holding up what was likely a piece of cracked egg-shell for the others to see.

Maura was just about to run off after a bird she'd seen when Master Tarrell instructed them not to run off at the first sight of something that interested them. She stopped mid-stride, sheepishly turned around, then rejoined the group without a word. "Oops!" She supposed they were here for these "rain dancer" dragons, not birds.

"Let's go—" Maura was about to point off in a random direction when she spotted Layla diverting from their group. "—that way!" she finished, pointing at Layla crouched on the mossy ground. She practically skipped on over, then dropped down on her knees to inspect what the Togruta padawan had found.

"Ooo... what do you think it is?" she asked, black eyes following it curiously as Layla lifted it up off the ground. "Is it an eggshell?" Maura looked over and up at Master Tarrell, hoping he'd answer her question.

When she looked back though, her wide eyes noticed another sparkle not too far off.

"Layla! There's another one over here!" Maura burst upwards and scrambled over to the other piece of maybe-eggshell like she was racing an invisible opponent. She fell back down to her knees and scooped it into her hands, then pinched it between her thumb and index finger. "Look! Do you think they fit together?"

As Fynn had given the two Padawans the chance to lead the way, he waited to see what direction they would choose. There was no wrong answers, he would only want to be able to retrace and make it back safely in case they had to turn back. When he was taking in the sounds of the Jungle, he looked over and noticed Layla had found something. Her little voice loud enough for his advanced hearing to pick up easily had told him she indeed found something. Maura had ran over and joined her quickly, Fynn followed suit and squatted down to look at what the young Togruta had found.

"I think you're right Maura, it could be an eggshell. Good find Layla." His facial expression that of a proud smile. Almost resembling a proud father figure. When he said it he would pat Layla gently on the shoulder with a sense of congratulations. As for Maura he would look over at the othe shell she had noticed. "Got a couple trackers on our hands. Go ahead and put em together and see if they fit, I would but you have smaller hands."

When she scrambled over to the other shell, Fynn would give Layla a slight nod her direction telling her to go on ahead and check it out. When they would check it out for a little the Sephi would stand up and walk over, "So what's our conclusion detectives?"

Layla nodded at Fynn's suggestion and moved towards Maura, the egg-shell clutched carefully between her fingers. She was starting to get excited, she loved putting things together, to tinker with broken things till they weren't broken anymore. Specially because most of the time it was she herself who had broken them, and fixing them meant less chance of getting punished. So as she moved towards Maura she was torn, pulled in two directions by her natural timidness and her growing excitement.

She held out her piece of the egg-shell to Maura, happy to let her take the lead and try to fix them, even though she would have loved nothing more than trying to put them together herself. Thankfully she noticed another glint a little further ahead, which was enough of a distraction for her young mind to not be too disheartened by her own shyness. While Maura would try to make the pieces match, Layla's head was already thinking further on the matter, trying to solve the puzzle before them. After a moment or two she spoke up.

"Maybe there was a nest nearby, and.." She stopped, not sure if she could finish the sentence, it was a big deal to share her thoughts with a Councilor, what if she was wrong? But he had asked for their thoughts, and that was an order. She couldn't refuse and order, could she?

"Maybe the babies shed the shells as they left the nest." She pointed ahead along the direction the trail of shells was leading them. "That way?" She looked questioningly at Maura, too nervous to look at Fynn in case she had said something wrong.

Maura carefully pushed her eggshell piece toward Layla's, and her eyes sparkled with excitement when the two pieces did indeed fit together. "Layla, look! They fit!" the padawan said with her voice growing in volume toward the end. Deciding the togruta padawan should get to hold the eggshells, Maura offered her piece over to Layla then stood up to look around.

Her eyes found the direction Layla pointed in, found the eggshells lining the path, then found Layla's hesitant gaze. If she noticed the other girl's hesitation at all though, it didn't show one bit as she reached out to grab her wrist. "C'mon! Let's go find the babies!"

There was no doubt in her mind that Layla was right, and she dragged the girl along with her as she headed straight in the direction Layla had pointed.

The trail of shells led straight into a game trail in the forest—a path shielded by lush, green forest but otherwise showing a clear path. There were all sorts of small animal tracks underfoot as Maura led Layla down, almost carelessly rushing through in her pursuit of the eggshells. She only came to a stop when she could no longer spot any more of the sparkling shells.

"...uhh." Maybe the babies finally cleaned themselves of the shell?

Fynn watched as the two began to deduce the connection between both of their shells. It was good to see the two younger Jedi finding a way to use this to bond. Their hunt to find the little rain dancers had finally begun. Fynn stood back and would follow from a distance. "I'll be right behind in you in case there is any danger. The rest of this hunt is for the two of you to figure out."

He smiled and winked at them before jumping with the force into the trees. Making his movements with the force he would move from limb to limb following them as they would find where the rain dancers went. A true way to bond for the two and to make them feel far more accomplished doing it on their own. Fynn wouldn't come down until they were finished, or until they had run into danger like a large spider or other dangerous beasts in these forests.

"Good Luck you two.."

/Will respond when then mission is complete or when they are in danger

Layla craned her neck upwards to try and follow Fynn as he jumped into the trees, but within seconds he was out of sight, and worry started to take hold. It was only Maura's presence that kept her from having an all out panic attack. Not wanting to be left behind all by herself, she kept up with Maura, even though in her head she was just screaming at herself. He left us! He left us!

Coming to a stop besides Maura when the trail of shells stopped, she was just whipping her head from one imaginary monster behind a tree to another, till she finally just snapped her eyes shut and looked down, doing her best to push away the fear. She was a Jedi, Jedi were supposed to be fearless. But while that didn't happen, stopping her head from bouncing around like a pinball, did have an unexpected benefit. Though her montrals were still developing, they did work in the way they were supposed to, though on a smaller scale. She "heard" something nearby, more than one something. All small, all zipping around almost too fast for her to differentiate one from another.

"They're flying!" She exclaimed as her head snapped up, eyes staring in the direction she had sensed the motion. "That way!" She was excited, she had seen all the kids use their cool abilities in class, and all she had was her ability to eat anything. Being a garbage disposal for the class' food supply wasn't really a cool ability, but this was, this was way cool. So she grabbed Maura's hand and started running, right past a clump of trees, and straight for a slope where the ground rolled off towards another clearing where their query seemed to be.

Maura was absolutely delighted when Layla stopped being dragged along and started dragging her along. The padawan quickly changed her pace to run along behind the Togruta all while searching the canopy with wide, pitch-black eyes in search of the 'flying' creatures Layla had apparently seen.

"There they are! I see them!" Maura's free hand was thrown forward to point at a flock of what looked like baby rain dancers flitting about in the air, chasing and playing with each other in the open clearing. Her voice immediately dropped to a whisper, and she pulled Layla down close to the ground with her. "They're so cute! Look how colorful they are!" she whispered-shouted, still pointing excitedly at the baby dragons.

"What do we do now? Do we-"

Before Maura could finish, there was a loud screech and a sudden woosh as what looked like a bird of prey dove down from above and into the crowd of rain dancers. Panicked, they all immediately split from each other. Another bird swooped down, but unlike the first one who missed, this one caught one of the babies in its claws and flew off with the struggling baby in its talons.

"HEY!" Maura leapt out from their hiding spot, arms waving wildly in the air as she attempted to scare the birds off. They all but ignored her, but she frightened the rain dancers, who scattered even more into the trees.

At least it got them out of the clearing, Maura figured with a frown. There was still that one that the bird caught though! "C'mon Layla! We have to save it!"

Layla was scared, scared of the birds attacking the rain dancers, scared for the rain dancers, and when Maura ran out to try and help them, scared for Maura as well. She just stayed where she was, hidden among the shrubbery, too scared to move. That was till Maura called out to her.

Thoughts were rushing through her mind. Wasn't Maura scared? What could the two of them do without Fynn? Should she go looking for him? Only when Maura called out to her did she look up from her little hands that had knotted into fists on the ground and looked to Maura. With immense effort she pushed herself to her feet, and slowly moved towards her fellow padawan. Hands still gripped around the grass she had ripped from the ground without even noticing, she did the only thing she could to help. She threw a fistful of grass in the general direction of the birds, only for the wind to blow it back straight into her own face.

Spitting dirt and grass out of her mouth, eyes teary from both getting dirt in them and a general sense of uselessness, she dropped to her knees once more. "I'm sorry." She half whispered, half sobbed as she went to her knees besides Maura. "I'm useless!"

Maura was fully prepared to run off at full speed after the fleeing rain dancers, wanting to chase them down to make sure they would be okay, and because she so desperately wanted one. What better way to call an animal your own than to save its very life? That's how it was done in all those animal movies, like the one where the girl tamed the wild orbak and they were best buddies for the rest of their lives. But, before she did go tearing off after the rain dancers, the girl turned her head ever-so-slightly to look behind her.

She expected Layla to be right behind her and ready to go after the baby dragons with her, but what Maura saw was quite the opposite. Rather than bracing to run, the Togruta girl had dropped down to her knees and was about to burst into a fit of tears. Maura had no idea how to react to this - she was dumbfounded - and it caused her to completely lose her balance and almost trip over her own feet as she quickly changed from being ready to run to crouching down.

"Wh- what do you mean?" If Layla looked up at the colorful padawan, she would see a look of utter confusion on Maura's face. Clearly she wasn't seeing anything Layla saw in herself. "You didn't do anything wrong?"

As much as Maura was itching to run after the babies, she was more concerned about her new friend. Unfortunately, she wasn't very good at the whole "comforting" thing. "C'mon Layla... there's no time to cry! We have to go save them! They're in trouble and we're the only ones who can help them." Maura slipped her hands under Layla's, digging them under the soil so she could curl her fingers around her friend's and pull her up.

"If you wanna cry that's okay, but can you cry and run? I always feel better when I run." It was true, both statements! Maura didn't care if Layla wanted to cry as long as she kept moving, and moving around always made Maura feel better when she was sad.
