A former Senate aide for the previous senator has done a runner, and taken with him numerous state secrets on an encrypted drive. He has fled to the outer rim planet of Tatooine, where our sources suggest he had been kidnapped by a local pirate. Meet the pirate, and convince them that it would be best if they executed the aide.

It took roughly two hours before the news of the aide's kidnapping reached the Belching Frog Saloon. A Quarren pirate captain, Delo Suff, had just lost a hand at cards and decided that the richly-dressed stranger would probably be worth a handsome ransom with which he could reimburse his purse. Preef Callo, as the cartel enforcer on Tatooine, hadn't really been interested in getting involved and was sure the pirate in question would no doubt give the cartel their customary forty percent. That is, until the call came in. Apparently the cartel had an interest in keeping the senator of Ubrikkia in his seat and this aide -and more specifically the encrypted drive- could jeopardise that.

"You there," the legendary rodian gunslinger motioned for a nearby Mandalorian (@FantasyLiver) to get up their feet. "follow me," Preef walked passed them and out the door of the saloon, only stopping next to a pair of speeders parked outside. "I'm taking these two speeders for a spin," he told the owners, who as members of his gang and affiliated to the Hutt Cartel didn't seem keen to object. It wasn't until he had sat down on the closest speeder that he would turn his head towards the Mandalorian, assuming they had followed him out. "Got a job at a pirate den just outside Mos Eisley," he shared as he started the engine of his speeder bike, "You back me up with that blaster of yours and you'll get paid for it."

Of course, on Tatooine, when someone lost a hand at a game of poker, it sometimes meant literally. Kyp had been on Tatooine a few times previously and, as such, wasn't at all surprised that the pirate captain had lost an appendage and was even less shocked that the Quarren thought the best way to afford a cybernetic replacement was by kidnapping a Senator. Kyp couldn't blame the guy - he'd probably have done the same as he'd grown rather fond of his hands over the year. They at least kept him paid, which was more than he could say about his good-for-nothing former clan.

At THE Preef Callo walked into the bar and began barking orders, Kyp had mixed feelings. On the one hand, being in the presence of a gunslinging myth and being asked to accompany him was a huge honor and one that the Lepi would certainly be adding to his criminal resume. However, this guy was giving him no respect and was acting like the former Mandalorian was just home hanger-on at the bar. God damn it, he worked for Nor'baal - he was well-aware of the situation.

"I know. That's why they sent me here. But yeah, sure thing. Just tell me who needs shooting."
Kyp replied, somewhat huffily although he was more than content to let the Rodian take the lead on this one.

Preef looked at the Mandalorian for a moment. Had the cartel send him before they had bothered to inform the rodian? If so, what were the Desilijic playing at. Did they really think that now that Preef Callo was no longer in his prime that they could move on him and that this was a first insult to bait the rodian in breaking his deal with the Supreme Mogul? If so, then they would find out how quick on the draw he still was.

Without uttering any of his suspicions at the Mandalorian, Preef sped off and out of town. It took them roughly twenty minutes across the sands outside of the canyon-built town of Mos Eisley before they caught a glimpse of the pirate's Cumulus-class Corsair in the distance. As they came closer the would notice the little oasis and the cantina and motel build in -and underneath- the sands next to it. The Corsair hand landed on a rock outcropping and its crew was no doubt entertaining itself with booze and loose women inside the cantina and motel.

Preef parked his speeder close to the entrance, motioned for the Mandalorian to keep his hand close to his blaster and stepped inside.

The party had -apparently- been the night before as the cantina he walked into was a mess. Broken tables, empty bottles littering the floor and here and there a sleeping humanoid, mostly weequays, Twi'leks and Quarren by the looks of it. "Two Hutta Moonshines," the rodian told the corpulent Klatoonian at the bar to signal to everyone able to overhear that the two newcomers were with the Desilijic cartel.

Low groans accompanied some of them waking up and slowly getting back to their feet. Another, who seemed more sober than the others quickly made his way down a flight of stairs and his footsteps cut the silence for almost a full ten seconds. By the time the Klatoonian had placed the two drinks on the bar more footsteps could be heard, approximately half a dozen men, approaching.

"Preef Callo?" a one-handed Quarren groaned upon entering the cantina space. Immediately the Quarren's good hand went for a vibro-knife on his belt while the five pirates that had accompanied him coming up now spread out evenly across the cantina, making sure to keep at least a distance of ten feet between themselves and the rodian Mandalorian duo.

Preef didn't immedately respond and merely took his own glass from the bar and slowly drank from it. He purposefully let the tension build and the pirates question whether or not they'd be able to beat the legendary quick-draw now that he was older and -a recurring theme- passed his prime.

"I'm here for the Chakaph payment," the rodian said calmly and placed his glass back on the bar, no doubt to free up his dominant hand. "The dead man's possessions will do."

Kyp wasn't a particularly traditionalist Mandalorian. Hell, he didn't really consider himself Mandalorian at all anymore so he had no problem taking off his helmet and enjoying his drink, face full in view.

"Dead man? I'm sure I don't know what you're talking about."
The one-handed pirate captain smiled, his temporary confusion replaced by a fauc-charming smile that Kyp was sure had been on his face before he gutted someone.

As Preef spoke, Kyp decided to even the odds in their favor. Or at least his favor. The Rodian had a legendary reputation for surviving and quick drawing his enemies but Kyp had never been so lucky. Getting up and stumbling as though he were drunk, Kyp "accidentally" bumped into one of the pirates, sending the man to the floor.

The pirates were suddenly even more on edge as Kyp decided to stumble into one and send it to the ground. Preef, who wasn't accustomed to the Mandalorian's style, truly believed him to be tipsy after a single glass of Hutt 'shine. He wouldn't be the first, after all. "Funny," the rodian replied as the Captain denied any knowledge of a dead man, "you kidnapped him today, then killed him and gave me his possessions as a Chakaph payment for doing it all on my turf." the rodian lowered his right hand and it now hovered awfully close to his infamous peacemaker.

"Aye I have someone, owes me money-" the Captain started snickering and his crew was slowly working up the courage to join him, laughing nervously while keeping their hands on their holstered weapons. "Didn't kill him and don't plan to, unless he can't get me my credits." the captain's confidence finally started to reflect on his crew and their eyes started to glinster. Perhaps they would be able to kill the legendary quick-draw and solidy their names as the meanest pirate crew in the Outer Rim.

But then it was Preef's turn to smile, "Alright then," he made one step closer to the pirate captain and suddenly he had his peacemaker drawn and lifted, aiming the barrel right between the Quarren's beady eyes. The surprise of this sudden turn of events had the pirates step back with some perhaps realizing that the rodian had waited purposefully for the moment where they had become overconfident and had lost their edge. "Say he can't get you any credits, what then?"

The Quarren's beady eyes widened as he finally understood what Preef had been saying this entire time, "Then we'd kill him." and finally he watched as Preef's lips turned into a smile, "Well then, no time like the present."

As soon as Preef had drawn his Peacemaker, Kyp took that as his cue to step on the man he'd just knocked over, pinning him to the floor with his boot. Raising his rifle, the Lepi's drunken acting was gone, replaced now with a cool professionalism in his voice.

"This baby doesn't have a stun setting. So nothing stupid." Kyp said, leveling his rifle at one of the pirates who had drawn his blaster when he saw his captain threatened. Realizing they'd been played, the crew turned to their captain, who spat on the ground, frustrated.

"Kiff, Yellow Wedge, bring the Senator down here."
The one-handed Quarren barked. The two pirates hustled along to do just that.

"So I'm not getting my creds back, is that it?" The Quarren asked Preef.

Preef shook his head, "I'll do you one better-" he said while they waited for 'Yellow Wedge' to return with the senator's aide. It hadn't escaped the rodian's notice that they kept referring to him as the senator, but to be honest, Preef wasn't too well-read on how the senate actually worked. Sure, he had bribed a few senators before but mostly because Shere or Marissa told him it was a smart move. Preef was good at some things, bad at others and he excelled in one thing more than anyone else he had ever met: shooting a blaster pistol. "-cartel will be moving goods to Trandosha soon." in some weird way the Desilijic Hutts had managed to capture the totalitarian leader of Trandosha and were keen to use him to take control of the system. "How does cartel privateer, sound?" It would make for a much better payday than raiding smalltime backwater world-affiliated cargo transports in the outer rim.

The Quarren seemed to mull it over shortly, despite the distraction of a blaster barrel in his face, and was saved from having to answer right then and there when 'Yellow Wedge' showed up with a human in tow. The human was beaten bloody, had a small limp and seemed to be cluthing a small storage bank like his life depended on it.

"So you said he isn't going to get us paid," Captain Delo Suff asked, his hand slowly going for the vibro-knife at his belt again, "but his possessions would be considered Chakaph."

Preef nodded, "That's right. Signing on with the cartel will get you plenty of credits," the Quarren seemed to consider it for a second and then slowly stepped backwards, away from Preef, and closer to the aide. In a surprising speed, he then drew his vibro-knife and plunged it repeatedly into the aide's belly and as the latter collapsed yanked the storage bank from his hands.

He then tossed it over to the rodian, who caught it in his free hand and lowered his blaster pistol. That was it. The senate aide was dead and the encrypted databank was in his possession. Still, there was the matter of cleaning up loose ends...

.. the cartel wouldn't like random pirates knowing that the Senator of Ubrikkia was in their pocket.

Kyp had been on too many mercenary jobs and had worked with the Cartel for too long not to read between the lines. Shame. He honestly felt for the pirates a bit - it really seemed that they had drawn a bad hand. But, better them than him. He made a show of nodding politely and turning to exit the building before spinning around and shooting a wrist rocket at the stairs of the tavern. The bartender ducked behind the bar and the pirates lounging on the stairs either exploded or went flying and the stairs were blown to bits, trapping those on the upper level and setting fire to to the bar. The Lepi trusted Preef's skill with a pistol to be able to handle those on the ground level while he readied his rifle to mop up any survivors.

Such a shame.

The rodian had to hand it to the Mandalorian, for they caught up on things pretty fast. The moment Kyp starting spinning around, Preef pulled the trigger of his legendary peacekeeper and send a bolt of plasma through the Quarren captain's head. Aided the distraction of the wrist-rocket, the rodian pivoted and shot the three pirates behind him in quick succession. As the two by the stairs got hit with the effects of the wrist-rocket, that left all the pirates on the ground floor dealth with.

"Good work," Preef nodded towards the Mandalorian as he holstered his peacemaker and held up encrypted databank, "Let's get this back to Mos Eisley," because he was curious to find out what information Kara would be able to decrypt. As it was an aide they were tasked to kill it stood to reason the data was related to Ubbrikkia and perhaps the secrets that caused the planet to become indebted to the cartel in the first place.

"Oh right," the rodian walked over to the bar and motioned for the bartender to rise up from behind it, "You tell them-" whoever would ask about what had happened here, where they friends or foes of the late captain Delo Suff, "-that Preef Callo came to collect his Chakaph." That should prevent people from prying more than they should.

Dang.

Kyp knew Preef was good but he figured he'd have to kill at least one of the pirates on the ground. But, nope, the Rodian winged through all four pirates like it was nothing.

"And you tell them Kyp was here too!" Kyp helpfully added to Preef's command to the bartender. What? It wasn't as though the Rodian needed more reputation points and Kyp was, if nothing else, a businessman. Civilians might not want their names associated with someone who had just wiped out a gang of pirates but for mercenaries, it was basically a one-way ticket to future work. He hoped it didn't come across as too needy.
