Rain...

Lots of rain...

A storm was brewing on the Imperial capital of Bastion. The Imperial Palace was shrouded by a veil of dense rain that poured from the planet's skies as if the planet itself was weeping. Weeping for the loss of the old Emperor. Weeping for the turn of events that led to the Sith takeover of the Empire nine years ago. Or perhaps it would be weeping for the carnage and evil about to be unleashed on the galaxy.

Imperial TIE fighters, the latest of their model, flew in circles around the palace, keeping a watchful eye on the torrent-filled skies. In the tallest tower of the palace, in a dimly lighted throne room, the Galactic Emperor and Dark Lord of the Sith, Darth Judicar sat on his revolving throne chair. He gazed out the window at the endless rain, though he was not seeing the rain. In fact, he was deep in meditation.

It had not been long ago that he had killed his old master, and assumed the mantle of Sith Master for himself. It would not be long before the Jedi were alerted to his rise to power. Awakening from his meditation, Judicar tapped a button on the arm rest of his chair, activating a comm unit that connected him to a room nearby his throne room. A room filled with the dark side of the Force.

"Lord Exodeus, my apprentice....come." was his simple orders.

Fire. Thunders and lightning. Storm winds were brewing over, wreaking calamity in its path. Earthquakes shattered everything around it, fissures cracking the ground. The dead painted the ground with, ten rivers of blood flowed upward, with droplets levitating upward toward the skies. And then, from the ten rivers, ten beings arose from the flowing blood, each with a mark of their foreheads. And they were speaking words of incoherency, impossible to understand, yet with meaning. Again and again, they kept speaking without logic, but at the same time, spoke wisdom beyond understanding. And as their eyes began to glow, blood came from the corners as tears. "Now it begins. The first, the last... the one called--"

"Lord Exodeus, my apprentice... come."

At that, Exodeus' closed black and red eyes opened slowly at the sound of those orders. The sudden surge of pain came as his meditation ended, with the Force providing the supplementary to his breathing needs. It was rare for him to be without his helmet, but on Bastion, within the Temple, there was no need for it.

Standing upright, Exodeus telekinetically opened the doors of his meditation chamber, leaving the almost entirely darkened room. Meditations were effective ways for him to strengthen his sensitivity to the Force, but the episodic Force Visions were an annoying side effect of such deep trances. Frankly speaking, the Sith Lord cared little for them, or their interpretation.

As the Sith came near to a large archway, he entered through the doorway, opening it too with the Force as he walked in. Walking down the long walkway, Exodeus stopped roughly four or five meters from a large, black throne. "What is thy bidding... my master?"

Judicar remained facing the window, refusing to face his apprentice. Darth Exodeus would wait on him. It was the Dark Lord's way of teaching his pupil patience. When Darth Judicar thought he had waited enough, he began to speak, though he still faced the window.

"The time is upon us, my friend. It has been nearly a year since I assumed the mantle of Dark Lord of the Sith. The preparations for battle are nearly complete." he said, his voice deep, but raspy.

The Dark Lord's chair swiveled so that he could face the Sith that was his apprentice. A wicked smile crept across his lips, but was hidden by the darkness of the throne room.

"In order to finish my preparations, I am sending you on a few errands, Lord Exodeus. First, you are to send the fleet their orders to prepare for war. Should I give the signal, I want every man, woman, ship, and other merciless pieces of metal battle ready." the Emperor commanded, "Once you have done that, request an audience between the two of us and the Imperator of the Chiss Ascendancy. We shall need their help for what is to come."

Darth Judicar finished giving his orders, but could sense his apprentice had things he wanted to discuss, and so the Emperor waited patiently for his apprentice to reply.

If there was one trait Exodeus acknowledged about his master more than anything else, it was his presence. His very words were like hands around one's throat. Whenever his master spoke, other listened. It was commanding, almost hypnotic.

The orders of his master were clear. Gather the armies, prepare the vessels and machination of war. The crusade was to begin, finally. At long last, the inevitable war with the Jedi was at hand. It was symbolic, almost. No matter how close they come, the galaxy could never destroy the Sith. And with each generation they were struck down, they arose stronger than before. It was their nature, to expunge weakness. Even from themselves, if need be.

"I shall do these things at once, my lord. I shall not fail you." Exodeus spoke clearly and promptly, bowing his head to his master. A moment passed and Exodeus looked upward at his master, seeing him eye to eye. No doubt had clouded his thoughts -- he was waiting. Waiting for what his apprentice had to say.

"My lord, this... alliance with the Chiss Ascendency. Is it truly your will that the Empire bond with them?"

The Emperor kept a calm, straight face. He was use to being questioned by Exodeus, but each time, he reprimanded his apprentice. This time, he took a different approach.

"It is...a necessary evil, I'm afraid. The Chiss have quite the intelligence gathering capabilities. If rumor has it true, Rebels are gathering to fight my rule of the Empire. These rebels are within the Empire currently. They will be expecting my watchful eye, but they will not expect another's. Least of all, the Chiss. With the Ascendancy as our ally, we will learn all we need to crush the Rebellion." Darth Judicar explained. That's when he sprung his trap, "Do you...question my methods, Lord Exodeus?"

Even in the faint light, it was easy for the apprentice of the Dark Lord to make out the Emperor's beady eyes nearly glowing with dark power staring back at him from the throne.

Exodeus quickly looked up, staring his master straight into the eye.

"I would never question my lord's will, or his judgment."

Exodeus was the apprentice of the Dark Lord himself. As such, he had a prominence no other Sith had - indeed, that no other sentient within the entire Galactic Empire had possessed, save for his own master. But even that did not warrant him questioning his master's methods. It was neither his place, nor wise. In respect and submission, the Sith apprentice bowed his head yet again.

"But I know of the Chiss themselves. The Ascendency is a xenophobic empire, inclusive and starved for prestige and power. They care nothing of the Empire, the Sith... or its Emperor."

Exodeus then looked back into the eyes of his master, and spoke further.

"They calculate, plot, and manipulate. If they find the opportune moment, they will betray us. It is in their nature... as it is in ours."

The nature of the Sith Order was not exclusive by any means. Indeed, if anything, it was nature, the natural order of things. Honed instincts, survival of the fittest, exploitation... it was why the Sith bred and encouraged infighting, and why Exodeus so easily embraced its philosophy. It bred strength and culled weaknesses, keeping power at its prime within the Sith Order. But to ally themselves with another entity whose goals were so similar... contention appeared inevitable to him.

The Emperor pondered the words of his apprentice for a moment before rising from his throne, drawing himself to his full height. His Sith robes billowed down from him and, in the darkness, he looked more like a phantom than a man.

"I have considered those risks. The Chiss are indeed cunning, very interesting creatures. However, the Sith infiltrated the Ascendancy long before our rise to power within the Empire. We know their movements. I know their movements. If they so much as sneeze out of place, I will be alerted. You are wise, my apprentice, for having thought such things through." Darth Judicar said, another wicked smile crossing his face.

The Emperor folded his arms behind his back and took a few steps to the right of his throne.

"If the time comes that the Chiss betray us, we will deal with them then. For now, our goal is the Galactic Alliance and their feeble Jedi Order. Now, go and complete your tasks. The time is at hand for us to purge the galaxy of the Jedi. The galaxy is ready for Sith rule once again. This time, our rule shall be eternal, as was the charge of Darth Invidious when we Sith returned to the galaxy." the Emperor explained.

Yes, it was. At long last, the Sith were returning, as they always did. Always coming to exact their revenge, always returning learning from their mistakes, and emerging more powerful than ever for it. And this time would be the last. The Sith would prevail, and nothing would stop them. Or rather, nothing could stop them. The Sith apprentice grinned at his master, then bowed his head once more.

"As you will it, so shall it be, my lord."

Exodeus then stood upright, and turned about, leaving his master's throne room. The dawn of war was upon them. Soldiers were forged, armies were gathered, and their realm of power would expand across the face of the galaxy. The new age of the Sith had come.

Darth Judicar waited until his apprentice had completely left his presence before returning to the viewport of his throne room. The wicked smile that had crossed his face earlier, had faded by this point. Replaced by a completely serious glared that seemed to pierce the heart of the galaxy as he gazed out on the Imperial Palace.

He reached out through the Force, feeling its currents and searching it for answers. He smiled inwardly at the sheer power the Force gave him. Now it was finally time to use all of the power he had learned and accumulated. He would not sit idle. He would rule the Empire with his full power. None who opposed him would live.

As he meditated in currents of the Force, an aid stepped into the throne room, kneeling and bowing his head until the Emperor responded.

"What is it?" Lord Judicar snapped.

"Your Majesty, dinner is prepared." the aid replied, a small hint of fear in his voice.

The Emperor was use to such things. It was not easy being in the presence of the personification of the dark side of the Force, so the Emperor excused such cowardice. It was, after all, to be expected of weaker beings.

"Has the food been properly tested by the Grand Vizier?" the Emperor questioned.

It was a joke, of course, but his servants would not dare laugh at them. Not because the Emperor would not allow such things, but because they feared that he might.

"Yes, sire." the aid replied.

"Very well, tell them I am coming." Judicar ordered.

And with that, the Dark Lord of the Sith came down and out of his throne room, leaving for dinner knowing full well, the time he had long awaited was about to finally....come...

End...
