"Racing is life. Anything that happens before or after is just waiting."
His mother will tell you his first flight was at the ripe old age of 12, when he first hijacked the family cargo-speeder to practice something he'd seen in in a Holo-vid once, and Grandpa Quix says it's not long after he took one of the farms archaic crop dusters on a joyride- one that came to and end when Derran Planetary Security caught up to him. Rather than punishing Dax, his Grandfather tried a new tactic to address the teens rebelliousness, and got him involved in amateur youth swoop racing. The rest is history.
Dax Quix quickly became the name to beat on the local system Swoop circuit. As soon as he was old enough he graduated to full scale amateur racing, and was the Derra IV amateur champion three years running. At 19 he was given his first shot at professional racing as a pilot for Malastare's Red Rockets racing team, backed by an outcast coterie of Hutts. Despite the questionable nature of his sponsors, Dax jumped at the opportunity and went on to take second in his first Hydian Way 500, sealing his status as a rising star in the galactic racing circles.
Not content with this title, Dax junior also made a name for himself on the illegal pod racing circuit- determined to prove that he could pilot anything that had engines strapped to it- in what would soon come to be one of the biggest ongoing controversies of his career. Dax went on to place or win in several regional championships, climaxing in his controversial win in the Boonta Eve Space-Laner 1000 after his nearest opponent, the Dug Doda, was forced to drop out with catastrophic mechanical failure that many attribute to mechanical failure. Many of his detractors say Dax owes his professional career to Hutts fixing the races. His own combative nature and his rags-to-riches background has only served to reinforce the theory, sicne it makes him an ideal underdog for outer-rim bookies, however many legitimate wins he racks up in different types of races.
Just before the fall of the Republic, Dax had a falling out with his underworld sponsors that sent ripples throughout the racing community. Rumors and accusations flew on both sides, with Dax accusing the Hutts of unfair business practices, fixing races, and downright theft, and the Hutts accusing Dax of everything they could think of. With Galactic turmoil making front page news, it didn't seem likely for galactic racing authorities to intervene, leaving Dax's career to stall while his sponsors moved on to other business ventures. A budding career seemed destined for a premature burnout, right up until Dax Quix was signed by Ossein Racing- at the time a developing company with fast selling luxury racers but no major circuit wins under its belt. That all changed with Dax's second Boonta Eve Space Laner 1000 behind the stick of a Ossein Racing BVR-6, cementing the legacy of both the pilot and his sponsors.
Nowadays, with his career intact and the accusation and criminal records of his past quickly receding, Dax finds himself looking for whatever adrenaline rushes he can find, whether it's big league competitions, petty swoop races, or other high speed, high adrenaline adventuring opportunity that presents itself. He's beginning to worry that this is as good as things ever get- that this is the best he'll ever be, and the fastest he'll ever go, in a set of sports where men die young and the old fade into obscurity...
