Deep Stone Crypt

Ellora Mainland Felwinter Peak
Jedi Order Small Sanctuary
Theme

A sanctuary for the Jedi Order, Deep Stone Crypt is hidden in one of the many mountaintops of Ellora and established by Jedi Masters Austin Wolfe and Galahad Vult. Knowing that with the growing strength of the Empire and the likelihood of the Jedi Order being destroyed, it was necessary to create a concealed refuge to aid in the survival of the Jedi. With no clear path to its entrance and an obscure stone door that was sealed with the Force, one would need to know what they were looking for to even realize it was there.

Situated very close underneath Ellora’s Great Storm, it is impossible for ships to reach it directly from orbit, instead having to travel from the edge of the continent underneath the clouds. Deep Stone Crypt has no installed communications capabilities, as its proximity to the storm would make any contact attempts utterly futile. Though not always actually inhabited, the establishment is cared for and maintained by Austin’s D-0-C Medical Droid, 10-NT.

Intent
This writeup is to provide a detailed explanation of the sanctuary that is established by Austin Wolfe and Galahad Vult as part of a plot. It will also serve as a home for Galahad’s Arkanian Dragon, Felwinter, and is intended to weather the years in secrecy until uncovered by future generations of Jedi.

High above the grassy fields of Ellora on its main continent lies a mountain peak which summit disappears into the dark clouds of the ever-present Great Storm. This particular mountain had no specific title previously, being known simply as part of one of the vast ranges that spanned the mainland. Its name was derived from both the terrible blizzards that battered the rocks as well as the new inhabitant that made the summit its home.

Wishing to keep the sanctuary a secret from the native Ellorans that populated the coastal regions of the mainland, Austin and Galahad spread rumours of a great terror that dwelled in Felwinter Peak that should never be disturbed. This warning was not without some truth, as the beast that resided in the mountain was utterly intolerant of anyone or anything encroaching on its territory. This served as an excellent deterrent for any to come close to Deep Stone Crypt — even if they bothered to make the difficult trip up the mountainside.

The door to the primary entrance of the Crypt is not directly on the side of Felwinter Peak, but rather several feet inside and at the back of a small naturally formed cavern. This doorway is circular and flat, with strange round markings engraved into the surface — an indication of its locking mechanism. Wishing to keep unwanted visitors out of Deep Stone Crypt, Masters Austin Wolfe and Galahad Vult (both level 3) created a Force Seal on the door and imbued it with the Light Side of the Force.

To open the door, the one wishing to enter must be aligned with the Light to unlock the Seal. Those corrupted by the Dark Side and with ill intent would find the mechanism beyond comprehension. The only hope to gain entry for such individuals would be to forcibly break the Seal (level 4 required), which would undoubtedly cause massive cave-ins throughout Deep Stone Crypt.

Located just underneath the layer of clouds is a naturally formed cave within the side of the mountaintop. At the bottom of this cave lies a small pool of water, where it opens up to reveal a large area that provides safety from the often violent weather outside. Although rain and snow almost constantly blow inside into the pool below, very rarely the sun’s rays also come streaming through the gap and illuminate the cave.

The space is large enough that it could realistically serve as a makeshift hangar bay — having the capacity to hold 3 to 4 small freighters or other starships. The entrance, although small in comparison to the huge cave, is only large enough to allow one ship at a time to fly through.

However, no sane person would ever enter the area with their valuable ship. It is the home of Felwinter, Master Vult’s snow-white Arkanian Dragon. Although tamed to a degree, he is fiercely territorial as all Arkanian Dragons are and would not hesitate to tear apart anything that invaded his roost.

The cave itself goes into the mountain quite far from the natural entrance in the side of the peak. This allows even greater protection from the weather, far back enough that no rain or snow would come close to reaching where Felwinter’s nest lies.

In the side of this cave is a stone doorway. When closed, it can only be opened from the inside of the Crypt and is barely noticeable from the Roost. Once opened, it leads into a long spiral staircase lit by torch sconces affixed to the walls. These stairs descend steadily into the mountain, eventually leading into the Central Chamber of Deep Stone Crypt.

At the heart of the sanctuary lies the Central Chamber. Every other passageway and room of Deep Stone Crypt leads to here, and it is the first area that is seen upon entering the establishment. The straight hall has pillars and braziers lining the walls that leads to the circular area at the end. Four statues are set in the walls along the back of the Central Chamber. Each one represents one of the four Councils of the Order — the Council of First Knowledge, the Council of Reconciliation, the Council of Mastery, and the Council of Command. All statues look towards the center, where a brazier built into a stone tree burns brightly.

Being the largest space in the sanctuary aside from the Roost, it can be used for many different functions. As there is ample room to move around, it is a prime area for training if the Jedi wish to spar. It is also where all meetings are held should any discussions of importance be called.

Although vastly smaller than other Jedi Temples, Deep Stone Crypt still has a few amenities for its inhabitants that they may use for the duration of their stay. The first of these are a set of living quarters, simple and compactly built. Decorated with a few plants, storage space, and a booth, each room contains everything a Jedi would need. There is enough space to comfortably house around six people in these quarters at any given time.

The second area available for visitors is a small meditation chamber. Built deep within the mountain, those using the room have the privilege of experiencing near-total silence as provided by the thick layers of rock. Furnished with a couple small tables and comfortable round couches, there are also curiously several large boulders at the corners of the room. These can be used to further hone the skills of the Jedi inhabitants, as they vary greatly in size and weight.

The third amenity available, installed unsurprisingly by Dr. Wolfe himself, is a complete medical bay. Having taken the equipment from his very own Medical-class Triage ship, the bay is fitted with a full hospital-grade surgical suite, dual occupancy isolation chamber, and a single occupancy kolto chamber with basic prosthesis manufacturing capabilities. It also includes a medical-grade scanner, with air, water, and biological sample analysis capabilities. As supplies are difficult to obtain at Deep Stone Crypt, the medical bay also has a medicine synthesizer installed.

One of the passageways leads from the Central Chamber deep within the mountain to a vault — a hexagonal stone room with a statue as its centerpiece. The base of the statue is lit by small braziers, illuminating a large plaque. Engraved into it is this inscription:

In memory of Master Austin Wolfe and Master Galahad Vult, who established this Crypt to preserve the memory of the Jedi Order and with the hope it would be renewed once again.
In memory of Felwinter, the great defender of this sanctuary.
In memory of the thousands of Jedi that lived and died in service to the Order.

Along the walls encircling the Jedi statue in the center are surprisingly no books. Beginning on the first section of the hexagon on the left side of the archive chamber, one would see the wall is comprised of several little drawers and compartments. Inside these are a large assortment of lightsaber parts, ready to be crafted into new blades. Following the chamber clockwise to the next wall is a chest inlaid into the stone — filled with hundreds of unattuned Kyber crystals. Though a Jedi could pass over thousands of other crystals in search of the one that they bonded to, such privileges were not always available in times of need.

Continuing to the wall directly opposite the entrance is a pedestal for Caladglær, covered by a clear glass that seals the display. The next two wall sections on the right side of the chamber are covered by row upon row of hexagonal-shaped memory crystals. Each one glows an azure blue that shines brightly as it reflects light. They are also uniquely designed with a silver trim around the edge. Each of them carries information on a host of different subjects — including lightsaber forms, the Jedi Code and the Nine Tenets, the Trials of Knighthood and Mastery, as well as instructions on attuning Kyber crystals and building lightsabers. Though by far not remotely as complete as the Ossus archives of old, they along with Caladglær would be monumental in teaching a new generation of Lightsiders should the Order ever fall.

One crystal, however, is mysteriously missing from its slot...
