Dhari Rast

Dhari Rast was a female Mirialan Force-sensitive living in the Force Eternal era. Formerly an Acolyte of the Sith Order and later an unsuccesful smuggler, Rast struggled to find her place in the Galaxy. She was a bit of an adrenaline junky, enjoying such hobbies as hover-skiing, speeder racing, and playing Sabacc.
Biography

Dhari was born on Mirial, but most of her life was spent on various research station on the border to the Unknown Regions. Her parents were Mirialan cartographers working on mapping those areas for the Free Worlds Alliance. Both of them were Force-sensitive, albeit not as attuned as their daughter would later prove to be. Following the Mirialan tradition of revering the Force and its importance to their culture, they made sure that Dhari was aware of her connection to the mystical power.

Growing up on the fringes of society and in sometimes quite inhospitable environments necessitated learning how to survive and thrive outside of the comforts of the Galaxy’s ecumenopolises. Dhari was taught how to fly both planetary aircraft and spacecraft, and her parents’ attention to detail and cartographic skills rubbed off on her. It also meant that Dhari didn’t have many peers around her when she as growing up, which spawned an urge in her to seek new friends wherever she went.

Paramount to her story, though, was her induction into the secretive organization that later revealed itself to be the resurgent Sith Order. Accompanying her parents on a trip to an outlying system in the Unknown Regions, she became separated from the on a planet and was apprehended by a Sith who had been searching for Dark Side artefacts. Recognizing Dhari’s significant presence in the Force, the Sith decided to abduct her, break her, and recreate her as his Acolyte.

For years, she toiled under her Master while the Sith Eternal neared the time when they would reveal themselves to the Galaxy. So much hurt and anger and fear was cultivated in Dhari during her tutelage under the Sith. Perhaps the Sith had hoped to turn her fully to the Dark Side by the time the Sith ventured out into the Galaxy. But Dhari had learned to make it look as if he had. Maybe she even believed herself to be broken too. However, when the Sith expansion began and the marauders fanned out into the Galaxy, she eventually found herself in a situation, an opportune moment to make her escape. She managed to flee and headed for a place as far away from her former master as possible.

She ended up in Hutt Space, finding work with a smuggling crew. They worked exclusively for the Hutt Cartel, smuggling spice and weapons. Eventually, she was able to buy her own light freighter and set out on her own. As it happened, her new venture as captain of her own smuggling vessel coincided with the Crymorah Syndicate’s toppling of the Hutt Cartel as the primary sphere of influence in the Five Syndicates. With her employer now reeling under the Crymorah Syndicate’s pressure and persecution, Dhari tried her best to maneuver the delicate situation that she was in and get the most out of it.

Dhari's smuggling ventures proved unsuccesful. Losing both her freighter and her contacts in the incessant infighting between the syndicates, she became the bottom of the barrel for a while. Eventually, she did get her ship back, only to lose it again. Rinse and repeat for a while, there...

Ultimately, she decided to pursue a different profession. She combined making a living as a private investigator and small business owner by refurbishing the old freighter and turning it into a mobile space-faring caf shop 'Dhari's Delights' and the office of her private investigation venture.

Personality & Traits

Dhari is fundamentally a joyful soul. She enjoys light-hearted banter and the small pleasures in life. She has a hedonistic nature, which presents itself in both constructive and destructive ways. She seems easy-going to all that meet her, as if nothing in this universe could rile her up. When the bantha fodder hits the fan, she proves to be both capable, decisive, and in possession of somewhat of a leadership skill – even if she would reject the idea of becoming a leader to anyone. Leading herself through life is a big enough task as it is.

Dhari can also be quite headstrong and very candid with her words. She not afraid to tell anyone to their face that she doesn’t like them. The fact that she’s a capable person also means that she is quite sure of herself; she has a tendency to overlook other possible strategies or tactics for solving an issue than her own. Additionally, hidden somewhere deep within her is a rage that burns like a wildfire when stoked. She is capable of despicable deeds, and she knows it, too; tries to control it as best as she can. But the anger and hurt that was cultivated in her by the things she saw and did at her Master’s behest always lurks underneath the surface.

Powers & Abilities

Attuned to the Force: As a Force-sensitive who's spent time training with a mentor, Dhari is probably more aware and able to utilise her powers than a Force-sensitive who has never had any real training. However, her time with the Sith only amounted to a few short years, and because she never fully gave in to the Dark Side her development in using the Force was slowed. Furthermore, since fleeing from the Sith she hasn't been practicing her skills, which has caused her development to experience inertia. Adding onto that is a general fear of reaching too deep into her Force attunement, knowing what darkness lurks inside.

Lightsaber: Dhari still possesses the lightsaber she built for herself whilst with the Sith. She showed potential as a duelist, but since her training was discontinued, she hasn't practiced much and therefore would be no match even for a Padawan or Acolyte at the end of their training. Given the conspicuousness of the weapon, Dhari rarely uses it in combat, if ever. The blade is crimson, which only adds to the awareness using a weapon like that would create around her. She's yet to find a way to purify the crystal and has reached a point where she's considering other options, like replacing the crystal. She even on the fence about keeping the lightsaber, as it contains memories of a past Dhari would sooner forget.

Smuggling: Life as a smuggler necessitates a jack-of-all-trades approach. Whilst already a capable pilot, Dhari has had to learn to trust her gut instinct in hairy situations; to quality check the goods she's smuggling and become better at reading other sentients and their intent, lest they try to pull a fast one on her; to be calm under pressure and cunning in her approach to solving issues, which are daunting more often than not for a lone smuggler. The Underworld is an entire culture and society existing parallel to regular society, with its own language, norms, and ways of conducting oneself both in business and in pleasure. Whilst she never had much luck smuggling, she's sure it had nothing to do with her smuggling skills. Just plain bad luck, right?

Equipment

Blacklight - Dhari Rast's AMS-8500 Light Freighter. It's a used model, and although the previous owner insisted that it's the model that only came with the two front laser cannons and not the dorsal cannon, the makeshift repairs to the area gives away that there was a dorsal cannon and that it has likely been lost to a bad maneuver. Dhari has colored the hull black in an attempt to cover up the dents and scratches acquired in its long years of service. It has changed hands a number of times since Dhari acquired it; sometimes stolen, sometimes pawned off to settle a debt.
