Edaara stiffened when she felt Alex send a telepathic message. She turned on her heel, turned off her saber, and jogged back the way she had come. She heard the rumbling of a lift right as another message reached her- the Council was in danger. She sped up and reached the lift right as it came back up. She rode it down and into the Council room just in time to see a Zabrak charge the grandmaster.

Edaara barely thought twice before igniting her saber and using the Force to boost her leap in front of Alex. Her blue saber met his and she dug her heels in to prevent from losing ground.

Another fight. And this time, she wouldn't lose.

Her grip on her lightsaber hilt tightened. Alex’s face was an unreadable mask. If this was her time, so be it. The Sith grew closer, and she felt a rush of wind against her face. Edaara appeared before her, and sabers clashed. The unmistakable sound echoing in the chamber as sparks flew. Alex could not stop herself. She heaved a sigh of relief. “You can do this.” For once, the Grandmaster would be a greater hindrance than help. Her body was weak and Edaara remained relatively unharmed.

Alex stepped backwards to run towards the Councilmembers. Her voice was soft as she spoke. “It’s okay. The tower is secure. We’ll get you out of here. We just have to get to the lift.” Various mumbles of thanks and understanding met her ears. They just needed an opening.

Meanwhile, the Zabrak Sith growled as his blade met the new Jedi’s. “Why die for her Jedi? Give me them and you are free.” As he spoke his left hand sent a powerful blaster of the Force at Edaara’s abdomen, aiming to drive her backward.

Edaara pushed forward, forcing the Zabrak to take a step back. “I gave myself to the Jedi,” she said through tight teeth. Her green skin paled with tension. “I am free,” With that she pushed forward again and swung their locked savers down so she was pressing his red blade into the ground. She suddenly released pressure. The zabrak would stumble forward and Edaara used that to her advantage- in one fast move she grabbed the Sith’s collar and pulled him even further forward with her left hand and with her other hand holding the saber, she brought it up to his neck, the flickering blue saber inches from his jugular. “Don’t make me,” she said calmly, almost politely. “Because I will,”

The Zabrak’s eyes widened. The blue blade inches from his neck. Suddenly, he found his body flying through the air, crashing into the windows of the Council chambers and unceremoniously tumbling through the broken glass. Alex stood with her hand outstretched. Her face a cold mask of determination. The Sith was dead.

Of that much she was certain. “Those deaths are my burden, Edaara.” She had made her choice years ago now. Sith could not be saved but she would not place that responsibility on others. Those death would stain her soul. The Councilors burst into cries of thanks and jubilation. The Jedi coms were a buzz with the tower being cleared. Alex sunk down wearily into one of the chairs. “It’s over.” She brought her commlink from her pocket.

“Make sure the Councilor get out of the tower safely. I’ll com Yavin.” The elderly human Councilor from before stepped forward. “We owe you our lives, Jedi. Ask and we are yours.” Alex willed a smile to her face. “We will not abuse that privilege.” He nodded and headed towards the lift. The Morellian Jedi sent a few quick messages to the Temple. Resources would be arriving on Ansion within the day. She closed her eyes and took a deep breath. Some poor medics would find her eventually. What a fun walk back to the shuttle that would be. For now, the job was done.

Edaara wasn’t even surprised anymore. She merely lowered her saber and turned it off, turning to face Alex. She nodded as the woman left and wondered just how much she had been through. Edaara did not envy Alex her position.

She stayed behind to work out the minor details with the Council member, and then she too left. A night in the bacta tank and a hearty meal and she would be more herself. She had had enough of the Sith for a while.
