The Discovery Exploration Company (also acronymed DEC) is a company based on Corellia that specializes in space exploration and plantary colonization, more so focused on venturing into unexplored territories. The company was founded over two hundred years ago. It's current headquarters is on Corellia.
Background
Space is vast and full of wonders they said. The Discovery Exploration Corps was founded three hundred years ago, pre-dating the Clone Wars. The DEC's founder was known to be adventerous. The DEC mapped and explores further out into the Outer Rim and Wild Space and even established some colonies.
After the Battle of Exegol, there was a renewed interest in venturing into the Unknown Regions. For millennia the Unknown Regions has been regarded as a source of tales and wonders, although the DEC was reluctant to go into the region as it's dangerous to travel. But after seeing first hand what lurked inside the Region, that would be the catalyst that would lead the push into the Unknown Regions.
Several excursions have been made in that area of space, the lot of them made it back although not note worthy and not not yield valuable intel, as they were playing things safe. Although one vessel nor it's crew ever returned.
In the present, the DEC's leadership is ambitious and put a lot of work and preparation for a big expedition into the unmapped and uncharted parts of the Unknown Regions.
Structure
The DEC is a moderate-sized company, it maintains a small headquarters on Corellia and maintains a number of space stations and planetary outposts close to the borders of known space in, one of which is in the Jakku system. They notably possess a some Geophysic Science Cruisers which serve as primary exploration vessels and large numbers of probe droids. They also make use of Star Seeder-class Colony Ships for colonization. For utility proposes, they have an array of freighters and transport craft. They also possess a number of ground vehicles
The Corps have under their employee scientists of a wide range of fields, security personnel, pilots, engineers, and other ship crewmen. Droids are frequently utilized as well. Outside contractors will also be hired as needed.
The organization does have the tools and infrastructure needed to establish small colonies on newly explored worlds.
Much of the DEC's funding at the company's founding came from it's wealthy owner. In the present the company gets profit from commissioned jobs to explore particular points or areas in space or establish colonies, and then gets payment when the job is complete. The DEC also attracts donations and gets some corporate investment as well.
Exploration & Colonization
The Corps is diligent about making sure their exploratory ships and their crews are well-stocked and prepared for what may lie ahead. A typical exploration will typically involve sending probe droids in advance to survey, followed by manned flights for in-depth exploration.
The ships will scan with visually and with their instruments in the given system for anything that maybe of use, anything interesting or note worthy. The planets will be scanned, asteroid, nebula, the stars, and any other celestial objects.
In the event explorers makes first contact intelligent life, protocol established during the Galactic Republic era stipulates that every newly discovered Species should be contacted and studied and the Corps still follow this. Aggressive or other violent action against new Species is also disallowed unless it's in self defense.
When establishing colonies, pre-fabricated buildings and infrastructure are transported to the planet.
