$8 for a $60 meal is a little more than a 13% tip, if my math is right.

Depends on the establishment and what you get. Things like seafood and good cuts of cow usually are the most expensive at normal restaurants.

Anywhere from $10-$30 for one person, depending on the restaurant.

Science says a lot of things, though.

I would only base it on service if the service given was inexcusably bad. Like, beyond the pale. There are so many factors that can go into someone feeling that the service was unsatisfactory. It could be unrealistic service expectations/customer egotism, it could be an extremely busy night, it could be poor management from supervisors, etc. Even wait staff attitudes that customers would consider poor could be because the waiter is overworked, stress at home due to family or economics, etc. I tend not to judge. Waiters are getting screwed out of fair wages so their living depends on customers not being cheap assholes.

It can range heavily. I would hesitate to really give an average for example when I go out to the local bar which I've found has amazing (albeit it pricy dinners) I spend about 30 dollars on my steak and another 8 on an appetizer. Add in beer at about 3.50 each and thats another 7 usually.. Not always. So we're looking at 45 dollars for my meal where as another time I'll go in and order a burger which comes with fries for 10, get an appetizer for 8, drinks for 7 (free if I get a soda.) so it comes out to 25. I mean its a pretty broad gap depending on what you're in the mood for and where you eat. I could go to a local diner and get a full meal for 15 bucks or less.

I will also say it was very rare for me to of been tipped when I delivered radiators, and it's still rare for my drivers to be tipped.

I assume your drivers aren't paid $5 an hour.

Wait really? And establishments still can't pay decent wages? Meals are roughly the same price here, and we pay staff like...a million times better and still make a profit. The food culture here is fantastic, so everything is like...crazy reasonably priced.

9 dollars an hour, along with driving anywhere from 1 to 40 miles to deliver a radiator to someone, which sometimes is the wrong part because the customer doesn't know what kind of car he is working on and they expect us to drive back, get the right one, and make them the first delivery stop.

Restaurants screw their wait staffs out of fair wages with the expectation that customers are going to tip. But even then, waiters are screwed out of fair tips because restaurants often divide the tips equally amongst the staff, regardless of performance or who actually earned that tip.

So they don't make below minimum wage an rely on tips to make enough money where they don't cry themselves to sleep with a 40 of Mickey's.

No no, they don't rely on tips to get by. Normally we just put all the tip money in a plastic cup and then usually order a pizza or two for all of us on one day.

I just thought it was a courteous thing to deliver a radiator to someone the day they order it and not expect them to be jackamoes. But that's a whole other story on it's own.

I thought people should be happy with what they get?
