EDIT: ROSTER
Alright guys, so I've seen a lot of starship crew-centered RP's form and subsequently fail. I'd largely chalk it up to:
That's the gist of it. Going more into the idea, you will serve as hired hands aboard a starship on the payroll of some company, assigned to perform what should have been a trivial task that will propel you towards greatness. We can also talk about alternative starting plots; exploring the fringes of unknown space, meeting undiscovered species and killing them; whatever... ultimately you may make your own way in the galaxy, becoming pirates or legitimate merchants or even become notorious crime syndicate leaders who start their own Indie faction. But, your characters will not start great - they will be small fries, Joe and Jane Ordinaries on a journey to become extraordinary. This first mission will be the first step on that trek.
What does that mean? That means I'm not looking for "heroes," no Poe Dameron, Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Leia, Moff Tarkin, Thrawn, Vader, Boba Fett. I am looking for ordinary people: that guy that drives a truck across the continent, the dude that works on an oil rig 6 months out of a year, a bitter vet who's served 3 tours in Iraq mostly staring into the desert or getting shot at by people he couldn't see, maybe the post-office worker that delivers your mail, or perhaps a pizza boy (Futurama - cryogenics notwithstanding - is a great example).
Fear not! You will become great! Though your character starts off basic AF, you should be wiling to make them stronger through character development. I'm not handing out experience, again this isn't an RPG, but this is kind of like Jedi training. Start small, get strong.
While I'm looking for permanent cast, you can always leave the crew at some point and go on your own adventure (aka be free to do the rest of the forum) and return at some point. There will probably be recurring cast, and walk-ons as well as the story unfolds.
As an aside, Force users are not permitted for the main cast, I don't even want Force sensitivity, it's too exceptional - I want people to become great through the creativity of their minds and skill at writing and not magic handwaving, precognition and telekinetics.
So, about that "structure" I mentioned and economics. You get paid for every mission you do, quest you complete, or Episode/Arc that ends, however we want to frame it. It might be in Galactic Credits, or it might be in some sort of honor point system, whatever. You use these credits to upgrade your ship, buy fancier equipment, bionics, advanced training, a new starfighter, or even pool your cash together and get a whole new ship.
This will be almost entirely run on the forum, but I'd also like to have a Skype chat going so we all get to know each other, can talk about things OOC'ly, so you don't have to always post that you're buying things or work out how your character can get out of a pickle. If you're interested, post it up and we can hammer out the ideas. I'm really looking for 3-5 people, but if we get more I might do 2 ships or 1 bigger ship.
- Russel McReady, shanghai'd fast food delivery boy, burnout and loser.
- Ailill Aherne, young Corellian, allergic to the sun, out to forge his own way.
- Lukas Jackson, Alderaanian scion in search of wealth, fame, glory, purpose.
- Dexeden Ordil, green security guard seeking new friends and family.
- Jerin Stryke, ex-military security guard with tight lips and some skills acquired from service.
- Aron sun erd Jarimus of Clifford, just call him "Aron."
- Ben Cyllest, another white male.
Alright guys, so I've seen a lot of starship crew-centered RP's form and subsequently fail. I'd largely chalk it up to:
- People don't want to be limited to one setting only and only interacting with 3-4 other PC's, especially when one or two members activity declines.
- People don't want their own characters to be supporting roles to the Captain's main show.
- People didn't have time to commit to all the things they created characters for. (Now that we have 3 character limit, this has been solved for us)
