Trys couldn’t remember the last time she had taken a vacation of any sort. She didn’t think she would actually show up to Naboo and check out one of the beaches, but here she was. Trys had asked Crix to join her, but he said he would rather spend some time with his girlfriend. Since when did he get a damn girlfriend? Nevertheless, she decided to take the trip herself.

She dug her toes into the sand, wearing a white cover up and hat over her bikini. Trys felt good not being on duty for once, and she wasn’t even undercover. However, she still had a gun in her beach bag, never truly unplugging from work. Trys had commed Duke when she arrived, inviting him to join if he wished. She was perfectly happy doing this alone, desperately in need of some down time.

The beach had many other people, but it wasn’t overcrowded by any means. The sun was warm and the waves washed up along her feet. She wasn’t used to any of this back home, and she wondered what Duke would make of it. She couldn’t believe he had never done this before.

It was a slow day at the station and when Duke got the invite from Trys, he gladly took it to stop himself from smashing his head into the desk. He was still new on Naboo and suffice to say that left a lot of paperwork for him to fill out and a break was much needed. When he arrived on the beach, it took him a few moments of scanning the crowd before finding Trys lying in the sand and soaking the sun, the tattoos peeking out enough to distinguish her. He made his way over with a grin, "Excuse me, I'm looking for Trys Aran, kinda scary looking. You know her?" He was used to her distinguished ranger look and more recently, her full uniform.

Duke was dressed in just a normal shirt, trunks and shades. It one of the first times he was ever like this in the open as he was always used to his jacket and sleeves. He offered her a smile before he turned his gaze to the ocean. The waves lapped on the shore and he soaked it in for a moment, "First time seeing an ocean up close." There were pictures of course but being there in person was completely different. He dug his toes into the sand as well before he sat down next to Trys to appreciate the scene, "It's better then I expected actually."

The water came in over the top of his feet as well and he raised both his eyebrows as he just continued to watch the waves coming back and forth. "I do hope you don't plan on just falling asleep there." Duke stood up from his spot before taking off his shirt and his shades. His badge was fitted around a chain and he threw that on top of his clothes as well. There were a couple of scars on his body but every Ranger would collect some in their career.

He gave Trys a light and refreshing splash of water with his foot, "You're supposed to show me the beach life." This was his first time at the beach and he knew in anything you just had to dive in headfirst. Duke waded forward in the water and dipped into the crystal blue depths before returning back for air a few moments later.

Trys looked over when he pretended to look for her, and she couldn’t help but grin, “Scary looking?” Her eyebrows rose, “That hurts coming from someone from Nar Shaddaa,” She gave him a mock pout, thinking about how he was primarily used to Hutts, Rodians, Trandoshans, etc.

She watched him remark on the ocean, and she rose and followed him, looking out into the horizon, “Makes you feel small, doesn’t it?” Trys watched him toss off his shirt and prepare to go into the water. She didn’t miss the scars on his body, and he was unsurprisingly in very nice shape. Her big sunglasses hid where her gaze went, and she tilted her head to look back at the ocean.

“Napping on the beach is part of beach life, you know,” Trys said with a grin. She took the beach cover off, tossing it aside along with the hat and shades. He would be able to see her full sleeve tattoos that also extended down towards her chest. She even had some along her thighs and the backs of her shoulders.

Trys stepped into the water and only made it up to her calves before stopping. The water felt cold, and she remained where she was, watching Duke up ahead, “Yeah, I think I’m good here,” She called out to him, deciding to walk along the water at calf length water.

Duke chuckled as she gave him a mock pout, "Really? It's meant as a compliment when it's coming from someone from Nar Shaddaa." He's dealt with nearly every alien race while he was stationed on that planet and seen enough to harden him to most stuff. But an angry Trys was really something that could make him shit his pants.

When he dove into the water and had some time to spare in it, he opened his eyes to see what was teeming underneath. His eyes stung for a moment but when the pain cleared away he was blown away. The water was clear and everything could be seen, from schools of reflective fish off in the distance to coral reefs that resembled a rainbow the way it was colored. Duke had never seen anything like it and he didn't think he would forget it. When he came back up, he heard Trys call out that she was good on the shore and that made him swim back.

As he stepped out of the water he ran a hand through his hair to get it out of his eyes and give the slicked-back look like her. "Are you sure? You're missing something quite amazing out there." When Duke's eyes landed on Trys, he didn't have his shades to cover his and they examined the tattoos that covered her body. It was the first time he had actually seen her tattoos when they weren't just sticking out of her clothes and he couldn't help but look. What he said about the ocean applied what he was looking at in the moment too.

"I feel kinda naked now." Duke joked, his skin bare except for a couple of blemishes here and there. She still stood in about shin-high in the water and he couldn't help but raise his eyebrow at her, "Are you not a big swimmer?"

She didn’t miss that his gaze went over her tattoos - after all, they were works of art to be admired. She didn’t mind if people took them in, and she even glanced away to let Duke look as much as he wanted. Trys remained calf deep in, “I love swimming, but it’s cooler than I like,” She looked around, spotting others in the water just fine. She knew she simply had to submerge herself once and then it’d be fine, but she was too chicken.

Trys grinned as he remarked on feeling naked without any tattoos, “I’m sure you have stories to tell that you can get inked,” He had a more complicated life than most, after all. She hadn’t asked him more about what it was like to detach from Nar Shaddaa. Did he have any lingering threads or problems that still tailed him?

She started finally walking deeper into the water, shivering slightly as the water came up to her flat, toned stomach. Goosebumps lined her body, and she gazed out at the way the sun shined over the surface of the waves, giving the illusion of a million diamonds shimmering in the horizon.

“I envy you, you know,” Trys said as she gazed out, “Being able to just up and move here. It’s like living full time in a vacation spot. What I wouldn’t give to stare at this instead of the pollution and tall buildings…”

Duke scoffed lightly as he turned to stare at the horizon as well, "I don't think I'd have an inch of bare skin then." He had never thought about tattoos, it just never came across his mind and he certainly had a wealth of ideas to draw from. A whole part of his life had been left behind and almost locked away in his head on purpose. He was doing his best just to forget about Nar Shaddaa and his family, still doing his best to swallow that pill in his own time.

Trys pulled up beside him and Duke glanced over, spotting the goosebumps and making him dip the tip of his fingers in the water. She did just have to dive in to get used to the temperature but he couldn't blame her for admiring the view. The sun's rays spilled over the water and made it shine brightly and gave it the ability to take someone's breath away. He got lost in the scene as well and when Trys spoke about envying him and being able to live on Naboo. Duke understood completely, she lived on Coruscant and Nar Shaddaa was the same and instead of a horizon, he stared mostly at neon signs.

"This is my first time seeing the ocean but I think what I'm about to show you will be your first time seeing anything like it. Come on." They were there for a beach day but where he was taking her would beat anything she would see back home. He gathered up his things and threw his shirt over his shoulder before leading the way to his speeder. When they got in, he pulled out of the beach and sped off.

After a while, they exited out of the city a little and arrived at the entrance of a trail that led into the forest. "We're here. Hope you don't mind a tiny trek." Duke got out of the speeder as he slipped his shirt back on and led the way down the trail, this time with a bag over his shoulder. "I wouldn't envy me completely, it's not all roses on my side." It was a little rough ditching his friends. "We haven't talked really since your promotion, how are you feeling about it?" They had done cases together but they never had a personal conversation since the safehouse and he assumed she was dealing with a whole new workload.

Trys stared in confusion as he got out of the water and began to walk past her, “What, you’re done already?” She thought he was leaving, but he implied he wanted to go elsewhere. Trys glanced back at the ocean one more time, thinking about how she wanted to stay longer. However, with how he determined he appeared, she was borderline curious about what he had in mind.

She dried off and put on a tanktop and some shorts - Naboo was nice weather all around this time of year. Trys grabbed her things and followed him to his speeder, popping them in and jumping into the passenger seat. She glanced out at the beach, watching as they passed by it. He was a Naboo citizen now, and he probably had better ideas of things to do than she did.

The terrain changed, and she was surprised to see the beginnings of a forest. Trys got out of the speeder, bringing a bottle of water with her as it looked like it’d be a trek. As he asked about her promotion, Trys shrugged.

“Honestly, it’s more attention than I like,” Trys explained, “I’m more recognized since being on Holonet. And I got put in charge of this damn Arcanist case,” It was amounting to be quite a bit of pressure now. She started walking with him, happy to have an activity that took her away from her desk.

“You might end up being pulled into the Deep Core yourself,” Trys grinned, “Things are getting hot over there.”

"Don't like being a celebrity that much, huh?" Duke said sarcastically but he knew there was a level of seriousness to her words. She threw her face on the holo and in practically in front of the entire galaxy. That was going to draw a lot of things out of hiding and give a face for people to aim for. "The big bad. Seems the Galaxy loves throwing us more shit to deal with every day." Everyone knew about the Arcanist, the most famous of the Darksiders and strangely one that freed slaves mostly but killed a lot of people in the process. He should know, he was most likely at the pits with the Arcanist.

When she commented that he might be pulled into the Deep Core, he chuckled softly before glancing over at her. " Then you and I should enjoy this little slice of paradise to its full extent before we get pulled back in the fire." Naboo had left an impression on him and he certainly saw himself returning in the future. They walked the trail for a little while longer until Duke stopped and turned off and went down a beaten path, leading the way for both of them again.

The path would end at the forming of a massive pool, two waterfalls cascading down the cliff above together and crashing below to form it. Plants surrounded the pool, stems extending from inside their pedals had golden lights on the tips, reflecting on the waterfalls and giving a golden shine to them. But it still wasn't why they were there and Duke dropped the bag as he stripped down into his shorts and placed everything he owned inside it. He reached in afterward and pulled out two rebreathers, keeping them in his hand as he held the bag open with his other for Trys to throw her things into it too.

When she did, he hid it behind some rocks so it wouldn't be snatched by a person or animal and came back over to her. He held a rebreather out for her to take, "The water is gonna be cold but you'll get used to it. Just follow me when you dive, you'll have to trust me." Duke gave her a playful wink before sticking the rebreather into his mouth. He gave her a quick salute before rushing forward and diving headfirst into the pool and disappearing under the water.

Trys continued to follow him as he spoke, and she quirked an eyebrow at his words, “You sound a lot happier since you’ve moved here,” She couldn’t help but notice that his demeanor and mannerisms had changed ever since. He seemed more at ease, or he at least did a good job of giving off that perception. She knew he had to cut a lot of threads and ties in order to make the move.

When they finally arrived at the waterfalls and the pool at the bottom, her eyes widened. She took it all in, looking all around her, “I don’t think I’ve seen anything like this before…” Trys hadn’t been looking at Duke, and by then he was already ready to go. She stared at the rebreathers and her eyes widened again.

“What the hell? Jumping from here?” She looked over the edge uncomfortably, watching him casually give a salute and dive over. Trys hesitated, grumbling to herself as she took off her clothing again to get down to the bikini. She hadn’t done something like this in a very long time, but she wasn’t about to let Duke see her chicken out of something for the second time that day.

With that, she broke into a run after putting the rebreather on, jumping off with a loud cry. She was smiling during it, feeling the rush of air before she splashed into the water. It was cold as all hell, and she quickly came to surface to let out a few choice curse words.

It took her a moment to adapt before she finally calmed her breathing and dove down again. Trys could see an entire world of plants and fish below, everything vibrant and lit up brighter than she ever thought possible. She had never been underwater on Naboo before, though she had heard about it many times. For now, she looked around for Duke to follow him where he went.

Duke soared through the air, only hearing it blow past his ears as he dove through the air before piercing through the water like a spear. The water did hide a whole new world, colorful fish, plantlife, and formations of coral in the pool as well that made him stop and look. When he felt the shockwave of Trys jumping into the water, he turned around before swimming over to her. He stopped in front of her for a second before throwing up the universal symbol of asking someone if they were okay. It was more to check her rebreather actually worked and if it did, he would wave for her to follow him.

The pool was incredibly deep, at least twenty feet but he ignored that and swam to where the waterfall collided against the water. Duke glanced back behind him to Trys before swimming forward and past the waterfall, disappearing behind the white water. If she followed him, she would find a tunnel that led deep into the planet and him waiting for her. It was easy to get lost down here if someone wasn't paying attention and he wasn't going to let that happen.

They swam down the tunnel, it barely lit up but as they continued for a little while, Duke would randomly stop. There was a fork in the underwater cave, one tunnel heading even deeper with another that split left and had a sort of green glow. He pointed toward that before drifting over there. The tunnel wasn't as large and was kind of a tight fit but the two would still manage to lead through. He went through first and would offer his hand to help Trys if she needed it.

When they arrived on the other side, it would be the most beautiful thing the two would ever see. Plants lined every inch of the new tunnel they were in, each one having a sort of neon glow that illuminated the room perfectly. Schools of fish would swim by and the plants would react, changing color from a vibrant green to a bright purple and the fish would change with them, reflecting whatever color they were. There were stone pillars that lined the middle of the cave and the two would see eels spill out from their presence.

One of them swam directly over to Trys but Duke held up his finger for her to wait. The eel swam around in her circles, the colors changing from red, to yellow, to green, to purple. It meant no harm and it swam away soon after to go join the others. The Ranger spread his arms out under the water and gestured to the whole scene that it was what he wanted to show her.

Trys followed him through the water, and she was surprised to see things illuminated beneath them and all around. There was vivid life surrounding them, and he would see her pause and float for a moment, eyes wide as she took it all in. She glanced up at him again, and he appeared to know what to do.

She jerked to the side initially when the eel circled her, but she followed Duke’s cue and remained where she was. Trys saw a school of fish zoom by, and she saw various creatures she had never known existed on the bottom. She kept swimming around, leaning in towards the plants and flowers that also seemed alive.

Trys was careful not to touch anything, but she couldn’t help but admire it from up close. She spent several minutes exploring before she finally made her way up to surface. Trys realized they were inside a cave and the exterior was just was illuminated and beautiful.

She made her way over to a rock and hoisted herself up, careful to climb up through the slippery surface. Trys took off her rebreather and waited for Duke to come up. She glanced around, “How did you find this place? It’s incredible!” Trys felt as if she were on a completely different planet.

Duke just floated there as he took in the scene as well. He was glad Trys didn't touch anything, the wildlife in the cave was sensitive and even a small touch could damage it. He swam with her as he flicked his own gaze around to catch everything he could. The water had been cold in the beginning but he was completely used to it. With the rebreather, he felt like he could have just spent hours in the water and observe the wildlife.

Trys swam to the surface and he followed behind her, shafts of light piercing the water from above to indicate there was more further in. When she hoisted herself out of the water, he waited for his turn before erupting out of the water as well and climbing to the side. Duke took out his rebreather and shook his hair before running a hand through it to control it. He couldn't help but chuckle at her reaction, it pretty much the same as his when he was first shown the place. "It's something else ain't it? Better then some neon signs." He slid the rebreather into his pocket before gazing up at the plants around them.

"After a few days on the force, some guys showed it to me. One of them is a Gungan and swam around until he found some kids in here. He kicked them out and now it's a place where we go to destress or drink." Duke held up his hands before she could speak, "And we make sure to clean up everything we bring. We don't disturb this place and the fish don't seem to mind." He assumed the eels wouldn't have been as friendly as they were but if they didn't mess with their home, then they could come and go as much as they wanted.

He sat down on a nearby rock before nodding toward the plants that weren't in the water, "The fish don't seem to mind us touching the plants up here at least." Some of the trees had tendrils that drooped down them that were filled with what appeared to just be pure light, illuminating the cave perfectly and showing off the other exotic plants that were littered throughout the cave.
