EDIT: IC Thread Link.

Hey folks, just putting out some feelers for an alternate timeline-style DBZ RP. This is something I've had...long, ongoing discussions with Johnny about over...well, years actually, so I finally thought I'd put something in writing and see if anyone was interested in giving this a stab.

There's a few differences from the canon, but if you're familiar with the series, I'll preface this by basically saying that the general gist of it is that we'll be using the Cell Saga lore as opposed to anything that follows it. So, for example, there's no Super Saiyan 3, 4 or 287 or God or anything. Even Super Saiyan 2 is basically unique to Gohan at the offset, and we'll probably aim to (for those who want to play Saiyans) emphasize the Super Saiyan sub-transformations rather than having a million different levels (so Goku/Gohan's Full Power or 'Perfect' Super Saiyan, Vegeta's Ascended Super Saiyan etc), and OCs will have to earn those transformations too, since we'll start out with it being canon characters only. Humans, Namekians and other races will be able to use transformations like Kaioken and Unlocked Potential transformations in time, and if you want to make up an original transformation then feel free to ask about it and we'll try to come up with something workable, but the basic gist is that OCs will have to earn that kind of stuff to give motive to progress.

Canon characters will be 'shared' characters - that is, everyone's free to write them, and noone can claim ownership over a specific character, they're there for everyone to use and write with and for where they want within reason - actions that are considered weird, out of place or anything that doesn't really make sense can be moderated or edited to ensure there's some consistency between posts, and I've laid out a background on the characters and story below:

DRAGONBALL Z: ALTERNATE TIMELINE RP
THE LEGENDARY SUPER SAIYAN SAGA

Backstory:
Seven years have passed since the Cell Games, and the Earth has enjoyed a peaceful quiet since the works of Dr Gero nearly destroyed the entire planet with his fearsome Androids and the creature Cell. For the so-called Z Fighters who defended the Earth against this threat, many have returned to quieter lives to finally enjoy some well-earned rest.

However, far across the galaxy, rumours are spreading of a figure born of out legend and myth. Despite all odds and the destruction of their homeworld, it appears that members of the warrior race known as the Saiyans still yet live. Now seemingly a cult of zealots, these Saiyans survivors, led by the great Paragus, have been spotted raiding and pillaging several planets, leaving a trail of destruction in their wake. Even more disturbing are the rumours that Paragus' own son, Broly, has achieved the impossible, and become the legendary Super Saiyan of myth and legend. Seeking out the lost prince of all Saiyans, Paragus, Broly and the lost remnants of the Saiyan race are now scouring the galaxy, searching for their rightful ruler and a new planet to call their own...

Canon Characters:
Humiliated by his defeat at the hands of Cell, as well as his rival's son surpassing him in power, VEGETA lost all interest in his girlfriend BULMA, and their eight-year old son TRUNKS. The relationship between Bulma and Vegeta had never been entirely typical, and though their arguments initially masked their affection for one another, Vegeta's bullish nature and his absence from Trunks' life inevitably resulted in Bulma ending the relationship. Despite this, Bulma continued to insist that Vegeta be a father to Trunks – a role he lacked both interest and experience in. Treating his son as an underling or henchman, Vegeta was harsh and often cruel to his son, and was relentless in his training of his son, despite Bulma's objections. Not surprisingly, Bulma rarely allows Vegeta to see Trunks anymore, preferring that her son lead a more normal life away from the influence of his father.

Vegeta himself continuously trains to improve himself – for seven years he has sought to unlock the power level Gohan achieved while fighting Cell, and has failed, much to his continued frustration. In this time, however, he took the lessons learned both from his own studies into the Super Saiyan transformation, as well as those of Goku's, in order to both increase his power level and his mastery of his patented Ascended Super Saiyan transformation.

Goku's only son, GOHAN, remains a young man torn between two lives. After his display of power in defeating Cell, Gohan became the indisputably most powerful being on Earth - save perhaps Shenron. However, the victory was a hollow one – even with all those killed by Cell brought back to life by the Dragon Balls, Gohan's father Goku was unable to be brought back, as he had already died once before, leaving the responsibility of protecting Earth to Gohan. Wanting to honour his father's legacy, Gohan continued his training with Piccolo once more, seeking to further increase his power in preparation for the next inevitable threat to Earth. Piccolo was always hard on Gohan, and brought out abilities in him that even Gohan couldn't have anticipated – however, still traumatized by the events of the Cell Games, and in particular his own behaviour while using the unprecedented Super Saiyan 2 transformation, Gohan became increasingly unwilling to use the transformation, instead opting for his father's more controlled Full Power Super Saiyan transformation. Piccolo, wanting Gohan to push beyond his limits, became all the harsher towards Gohan for it, until tensions finally boiled over. In a fit of rage during a sparring match, Gohan transformed to his full potential once more, almost killing Piccolo in the process. While they continue to train together, Piccolo no longer pushes Gohan to use the Super Saiyan 2 transformation, now fully aware that noone on Earth could ever hope to stop him if he lost control of himself.

Meanwhile, CHI CHI, ever persistent and stubborn, continuously badgers Gohan to continue his studies, often overburdening the young man with extracurricular activities and literal piles of additional homework. Those close to her claim that they are simply too terrified of her to question her parenting methods, but in private conversations, many have noted a change in her behaviour ever since Goku died, and wonder if perhaps she is far more grief-stricken than she will allow herself to admit.

Apart from training Gohan, PICCOLO spends his time at Kami's lookout, using his knowledge of the Dragon Balls and the memories of Kami to teach Dende more about his role as Guardian of Earth. Still, Piccolo remains his usual stoic, solitary self, and often spends months in the wilderness meditating. As a result of his fusion with Kami, Piccolo's power level has continued to increase, and as he continues to become accustomed to his new, re-united self, he begins to wonder just what other mysteries the Namekians can teach him about himself.

Despite their somewhat lesser role during the Cell Games, KRILLIN, YAMCHA and TIEN have continued their martial arts training at Kami's lookout. With the help of Dende, the three fighters have used his connection to King Kaito continue their training, practicing and advancing in some of the more advanced techniques King Kai taught Goku, and seeking to discover whether humans are equally capable of such rapid power increases as the Saiyans. As a result, all three fighters have learned to master the Kaioken technique, and are working together both to attempt to harness the raw power of the transformation and seek new levels of power unheard of in humans. Pushing themselves to the limits, the three fighters train with Krillin's girlfriend, the former Android, 18 – an opponent of considerable strength herself who, due to her cyborg nature, has shown a capability to increase her own power level with training. CHIAOTZU, on the other hand, has become fast friends with Dende, and has put his skills to work learning the Namekian healing arts, showing impressive progress in his own right. In their down time, they all often spend time at Capsule Corp with Bulma and Trunks.

The former androids 16 and 17, sometimes visit the other Z Fighters. Like the fully synthetic Android 8 before him, 16 was revived by a wish to Shenron along with 17 – however, Shenron lacked the power to make any of the Androids truly human. Instead, 16 has spent much of his time in nature, seeking to discover his own form of humanity. Now a park ranger, 17 accompanies 16 on these long journeys into nature. No longer the fighter he used to be, 17 has dedicated his life to protecting wildlife and enjoying a more tranquil lifestyle, and his time with 16 has revealed a softer, more considerate nature hidden within. Together with Yamcha, Tien and Krillin, the androids plan to travel to Namek, in order to ask for Porunga, the Eternal Dragon of Namek, for the means to become truly human.

Travelling the Otherworld, GOKU often returns to King Kai's planet to look over the Z Fighters and ensure that Earth remains safe. Trusting the fate of Earth to his friends and family, Goku now finds himself free to explore the afterlife and enjoy some well-earned rest. However, being forever competitive, Goku continues to train and seek new martial arts challenges to overcome, and spends much of his time helping people in the Otherworld or learning from and sparring with some of the greatest fighters in the Otherworld. Though he misses his friends and family dearly, it was also his wish to remain dead, and he has been at peace with the decision. It is unknown if he will ever wish to return to Earth.

Meanwhile, far across the galaxy, there tell stories of a group of Saiyans that still yet live. Called back to Planet Vegeta from the farthest reaches of the galaxy, some Saiyan pods did not arrive in time for Frieza's arrival – and subsequent destruction of Planet Vegeta. Chief among these is General Paragus, a masterful tactician and former rival to King Vegeta, who was exiled in disgrace after a failed assassination attempt. Rallying the lost and aimless remnants of the Saiyan race, Paragus has formed an army of refugees. No longer seeking conquest and destruction, this Saiyan army now travels across the galaxy, annihilating any remnant of the empire of King Cold and, more specifically Lord Frieza, wherever they go. However, there is an ulterior motive behind this as well – an army of homeless nomads, the Saiyans now seek a planet suitable to call home once more. With the rumours of Prince Vegeta surviving the destruction of the Saiyan homeworld, however, the army has now set its gaze upon Earth, seeking to re-unite with their lost, would-be king.

However, even more disturbing is that rumours persist of one within the Saiyan army having ascended to the unthinkable. Indeed, it is said that Paragus' own son, BROLY, has achieved the impossible, and ascended to become the Super Saiyan of legend...

So! One last thing - as I hinted at in my opening...ramble, OCs are allowed. However, as you can probably guess from the write-up, if you want to be a Saiyan, you'll have to be a bad guy for a while, since you'll be serving under Paragus and Broly. If you want to turn good later on, there will definitely be opportunities for you to do so. I'm hoping to do an A-arc with Broly and the Saiyans coming to Earth, and a B-arc with a lot of the now-lesser-used Z Fighters going to Namek, but depending on who is interested and what the roster looks like, we might cut the B-arc and broadstroke that in the background, but we'll see how things go.

Oh, one other thing, but there's no Goten in this continuity, so no Gotenks either. Fusion will probably be a Namekian or Human-only thing to spice them up more.

Anyway, let me know your thoughts and opinions, and if there's enough interest here I'll start taking applications for who wants to be in it.

Can I be a member of frezias race?

It should be workable. Might be a bit more difficult to get people to trust you (since they've all been evil, planet destroying assholes), but still, we can work something out.

Definately. Namekians are boss. I want to make more of the...non-saiyan races more relevant and balanced on a power scale, and I've got a few ideas regarding Namekian fusion that might work and help with that, but if you've got any ideas then I'd love to discuss it further :)

EDIT: That said my OC is gonna be saiyan, so I'm a total hypocrite. >.>

Nah humans, get ready for humans to once again be the master race. Jk

Jokes aside humans are probably the weakest race and feel like they need a voice in the crazy op galaxy filled with aliens that can wink and blow up planets and shit.

Pretty much. Which is why I've given most of the humans some major practice with the Kaioken, and there will be other power boosts and techniques that pop up over time as well. I like those characters, so I don't want them to be benchwarmers.

Tri-Beam. Well, Neo Tri-Beam is the one used against Cell. Abridged often uses the Japanese names, so it's called 'Kikoho' in that.

Name: Tabakka
Race: Saiyan
Affiliation: Saiyan Remnant.
Age: 52 (biologically is around 20 due to prolonged cryo-stasis)
Gender: Male
Height: 5'5"

Signature Moves (Optional):
  • Sincerely Yours: Following a powerful strike that propels the enemy backwards, Tabakka immediately fires an energy blast at the vulnerable enemy with a single hand while charging forward. This is often used while throwing the enemy from the sky - as they hit the ground, the enemy is instantly pummeled with the blast while vulnerable.

  • Best Wishes: Tabakka's energy aura flares up massively, as he uses his entire body to charge up this attack. When enough energy is gathered, Tabakka's aura begins to split, small knots of energy breaking off and gathering into a number of blasts of energy. The swarm of blasts then home in on one or multiple enemies. Tabakka can continue to fire these blasts for as long as he is able to focus or until he runs out of energy - however, even the slightest move can disrupt his concentration and end the barrage.

  • Warm Regards: Tabakka clenches his fist, gathering energy into a tight, compact ball which he then throws at the enemy. The condensed energy explodes on impact, creating a massive explosion.

  • Always: Similar to Raditz's Shining Friday technique, Tabakka charges energy in both hands, then thrusts his hands forward. firing two energy beams parallel to one another at the enemy. These blasts can be directed independently, allowing Tabakka to attack two opponents at once.

Brief Biography:
Born to a low-class warrior family on Planet Vegeta, Tabakka was deemed unsuitable for conscription into the Frieza Force and Saiyan Army due to a pitiful power level, even as an infant. As a result, Tabakka was placed into an advanced training program, designed to train and encourage growth soas to allow otherwise unsuitable Saiyan children the ability to serve Lord Frieza as raiders and conquerors. This meant that Tabakka was not dispatched via pod to a distant world, and instead faced perhaps a more typical (by human standards, at least), youth and education, albeit with the typical barbaric Saiyan twist. Trained aboard one of the Saiyans' mother ship vessels - massive orb-shaped spaceship that could carry hundreds of soldiers - children were forced to fight and kill one another, taught to trust noone, and to obey and serve Lord Frieza above all others. In order to prevent the discovery of such pitiful children, these pods traveled far away from Planet Vegeta, in order to prevent their discovery and termination by the Frieza Forces.

In fact, it was Tabakka's poor ability to fight and his inferior power-level that ultimately saved his life. Recalled to Planet Vegeta at the behest of Lord Frieza, Tabakka's ship - and several others - took too long to return to their homeworld, and arrived only after the planet was destroyed by Frieza. Of the dozens of craft that returned in the aftermath, many were destroyed by Frieza's own forces, while others were destroyed by the scattering debris of their former homeworld. Tabakka's ship was also damaged, losing control of its navigation systems, but avoided the fire of the Frieza Forces. As a result, the craft, with its hundreds of Saiyan youths, floated through space, stranded.

Realizing the severity of the situation, emergency protocols were enacted, and the crew and students of the ship were placed into a cryogenic stasis in order to try and survive. For decades the craft floated through space, before eventually, the ship was discovered by the Saiyan Remnant - a rag-tag army of survivors that yet lived despite Frieza's best efforts, led by the disgraced General Paragus, who had once vied with King Vegeta for the throne.

The the surprise of the Saiyans in stasis, the process of being left on the brink of death for so long proved a boon - like those others that survived the long sleep, Tabakka discovered that being left on the brink of death for so long had activated the Saiyan zenkai - a significant boost in power level that occurred only when a Saiyan warrior cheated death. As a result, the youth of the Saiyan Remnant became some of the most powerful warriors ever recorded, with unprecedented powers levels - power levels that, if cultivated over time, could be used to finally destroy Frieza.

Tabakka joined the Saiyan Remnant as a raider, sacking and pillaging planets for supplies before moving on quickly, desperate to avoid the notice of Frieza. After some time, it proved obvious that the Frieza Force no longer had the influence it once had, and so the Saiyans began to investigate. Finally, the truth was revealed to them: Frieza, and his father King Cold were dead, killed by a Saiyan on the distant planet of Earth - a planet, where it was rumored, the would-be King of all Saiyans, Prince Vegeta, yet lived.

Casting aside the old rivalries, General Paragus ordered the Saiyans to travel to Earth to discover the fate of the lost Prince. Tabakka, being one of the rawest, youngest and least battle-hardened of the Saiyans, was placed in the vanguard. He would prove himself worthy of the Saiyan name, or he would die. There was no alternative.

Just decided to put up a profile for this, for two reasons:

Firstly, so there's a template and a basic framework you guys can work off in order to help put your characters together, and secondly, the bio will hopefully give you guys some insight into the Saiyan backstory for those of you interested in writing a Saiyan. So hopefully this will give you some ideas for your bios and backstory.

So how are we going to decide how strong one person is compared to another? Because it would probably be important to see who is where in terms of strength and capabilities?

On that note how strong can we make our characters? Like can we make them so they can beat vegeta when he was first shown in Dragon ball Z?

Name: Djembe
Race: Namekian
Affiliation: Independent
Age: 28
Gender: Male
Height: 6'7"

Signature Moves (Optional):
  • Instant Cannon: A deadly combination of Yardat's Instant Transmission Technique and a focused ki blast makes for Djembe's signature move. It takes a bit of time for him to charge enough energy to perform it, but once he has the energy gathered in his fingers he can teleport to his foe instantly to deliver a point blank beam cannon. Due to the energy required the range is usually only visual or within a few miles at most.

  • Glass Ball: A dense ball of purple ki that locks on to an object or person once launched from Djembe's antennae. On impact, it attempts to expand around the target to trap them in a sphere of powerful purple glass. Once captured, both the ball and the target can be shrunk to a pocket-sized marble for storage. A powerful foe can break the glass, so he usually tries to weaken them first before capture.

  • Dragon Scale Strike: Bright yellow ki surrounds Djembe's fist as he charges his opponent. His punch is powered by the ki and it solidifies upon contact with an enemy. This hard Ki-Sphere is called the Dragon Scale and is much more powerful than a regular punch. Weaker opponents can lose limbs or be killed by a single strike. When Djembe powers up this ability it starts to gain red stars, up to seven. Each star means it is more powerful. Seven stars takes a long time to charge but usually can end a fight.

  • Instant Strike: Another technique based in the instant transmission he learned from Yardrat, this strike is simply Djembe focusing on an enemy and teleporting while lunging forward with a powerful kick or punch.

Brief Biography:
When planet Namek was in crisis so many centuries ago, some were sent away to other worlds to find a new home. Most notably one arrived on Earth which eventually helped shape the future of all Namekians. Djembe's father was also sent away but landed on Yardrat many centuries ago. They helped him search for new worlds but eventually the Namekian found himself unknowingly competing against King Cold's empire for a suitable planet. The old Namekian was killed in the conflict, but not before spitting an egg back to his ship. Somehow, the egg made its way inside and the ship's autopilot fled back to Yardrat where the newly born Djembe was born.

The people of Yardrat were friendly to the orphaned Namekian, but where unsure how to get him back home. Namek was far away and the original Namekian ship had been destroyed long before then. For these reasons he was adopted into their culture and raised among them. He learned their techniques, enhanced his natural abilities, and focused on the memories of his father in an attempt to remember his homeworld. Due to his childhood on Yardrat, Djembe maintained the usual Namekian heart and purity. He was praised by his adopted people for his strength and focus, but he never could be one of them.

By the time Namek was destroyed and Goku was on Yardrat, Djembe had matured into a young adult with impressive abilities. The Saiyan from Earth told him about Namek, the Namekians, Kami, Piccollo, and other amazing stories. There was hope of him finding his people still, and things started to make sense for him. If the dragonballs could restore his people and a new planet for them, maybe he could finally fit in somewhere. A large green Namekian was hard to miss on Yardrat. After further council from Goku, the young Namek began his own journey to find his people. This eventually landed the Namekian on Earth after learning that was where his people were last spotted, yet only two could be found there. It seemed the majority had moved on to yet another world already. Rather than leave to find his people, he decided to stay with Dende and Piccollo at least until the Z Fighters left for Namek, perhaps longer if he needed.

@Green Ranger let me know if his moves are too OP, tried to make them fair...

One thing I want to stress (and Im glad you brought it up), is that if you're planning on going into this with a competetive approach, then this probably isn't the Diverse RP for you. The focus is going to be on collaberatively working together to write a good story, not to be better than each other. It's one of the reasons why I'm allowing canon characters to be shared.

So stuff like wins and losses is something I'll want participants to discuss with one another, rather than compete against each other in the traditional sense. We'll be working together to come up with what's best for the story.

And if that fails, then I'll make rulings where appropriate.

@Bauren: per my previous post, I'm not too fussed if something seems OP, provided it doesn't become a source of argument. So it'll be up to you - and everyone else - to be responsible about it. I don't want to have to rule on stuff if I can avoid it, after all, so if stuff devolves into dick measùring I'll probably just tell you guys the offending techniques are no longer usable or something along those lines.

That's good. I like the story focus and that's where I was aiming but I realized as I was posting if it became a competitive thing my guy has tough moves. Looking forward to it then.

The rest of my story and such fit in your era alright?
