DESCRIPTION
The Droid Tri-Fighter is an automated combat spacecraft which was designed by the Colicoid Creation Nest - makers of the fearsome Droideka destroyer droid - and produced by Phlac-Arphocc Automata Industries, a specialty droid manufacturer. Created in the later part of the Clone Wars and sold to the Confederacy of Independent Systems, who viewed it as a "wonder weapon" which would finally sweep the skies of the Republic's clone-piloted starfighters. Although it failed in this goal, the Tri-Fighter is widely considered to be the finest automated starfighter ever mass produced, and would likely have turned the tide of the Clone Wars had it been introduced even a few months earlier.

At 5.4 meters in length, the Droid Tri-Fighter is even smaller than the already tiny Vulture-class droid starfighter, which was the main Separatist starfighter of the war. Despite its diminutive size, however, the it packed superior firepower to its predecessor, including 3 light laser cannons, a centrally-mounted medium laser cannon and 2 ordinance hard-points, which can carry a combined total of up to 6 missiles, torpedoes or bombs. The fighter is powered by a central reactor which takes up most of the main fuselage; although this provides plenty of power to the engines and weapons, it does make the ship rather volatile if hit amidships. Nevertheless, the ship's top speed is some 110 MGLT, with maneuverability to match.

Most notably - and most important to its success - the Tri-Fighter is equipped with an exceptionally sophisticated droid pilot brain. This databrain, aside from being programmed with over 6 million forms of starfighter combat, is equipped with heuristic processors which allow it to observe and learn from opponents; the longer they fight, the more dangerous a Tri-Fighter can become.

After the end of the Clone Wars, most of the Droid Tri-Fighters were seized by the Galactic Empire. Many were expended in training exercises or were reclaimed for their resources, although a few endured as tools of anti-Imperial dissidents, especially so soon after the war. By the present day, they tend not to be seen outside museums and private collections.

RESTRICTIONS
