Kestra beamed as the Gemini twin complimented her. Being unused to praise, her cheeks flushed with color as she tried to formulate a sentence.

"Nothing that a, uh, studious student would not be able to learn," she answered sheepishly. "In Vaswam, that is."

In truth, a mage would have had to stumble into the right kind of texts, given that runic magic had fallen to the wayside to the more contemporary, casted magicks. But it was not as though runic magic is some kind of forbidden art.

Once the two prisoners were accounted for, Kestra sheathed her blade and yawned. It has been an exciting night, but it has also been exhausting. Kestra was more of the mind to lie down and go back to sleep instead of monitoring the surrendered bandits. Surely someone would take care of that, right?

It wasn’t before long that the actual caravan guards came along to acquire the prisoners. It was an odd aura they gave off. Some of their number had been lost to the bandit’s attack and those that were left standing had been put to sleep by the initial spellcasting. A mixture of remorse and shame painted their movements.

“We’ll… take them from here,” a prumish man told the adventurers. His short height didn’t betray his formidable frame. What he lacked vertically he seemed to make up for in muscle mass, “Well secure them until Harvest. There they can be turned over to Avalaran officials.”

The man tried not to meet any of their gaze. They’d done the job he was expected to do.

Seti-nehkt smiled and bowed at the gemini.

“I am Seti-nehkt. A keeper of affairs for her excellence Pharaoh Tant-te-bast of Theed. First, allow me to extend our gratitude to your and your companion’s bravery and skill. You’ve done the Pharaoh a great service,” he turned his gaze to the cart as he rose.

“Interred in that coffin his her late husband, Fendrir Ulfrarson,” a sadness seemed to slowly take over Seti-nehkt’s face as he spoke, “We were returning his remains to his home country of Heksetr as the Pharaoh wished it. We were hoping if we transported him under the radar we wouldn’t run into any issues, but alas, it seems even in death he proved to value a target. Fendrir was a sorcerer.”

A sorcerer in Myr was an oddity. All other spellcasters gained their magical abilities through study, faith, or compact with forces beyond their station. A sorcerer had an inherent connection to magic from birth. Able to cast without the need for a focus or materials, having the ability to bend the nature of their spells beyond other mages ability, and being almost literal fonts of magic.

This connection to the arcane caused some sorcerers to become prey. Living or dead, some individuals would pay greatly for a sorcerer to either dissect or subjugate. If Seti-nehkt had to guess, the body of Fendrir Ulfrarson was now a hot commodity.

"Vaswam eh?" Oma asked the Caitsith with obvious interest. He still looked much more nervous than he had been when fighting for his life just a few minutes ago. "We've never been. Heard it's quite a beauty though..." He paused before inclining his head slightly. "Apologies... I don't believe we caught your name?"

While his brother continued to stumble through conversation with the Caitsith Ta listened to Seti-nehkt's story. They didn't know much about Pharaohs or magic, but they knew sorcerers were some kind of special. If this man's body was so valuable... well perhaps it wasn't a coincidence that the Black Jackals had come this way. It took only a few moments for the twins to come to the same conclusion and decide what they wanted to do. If they were going to find their quarry, they'd need the right bait... And there was of course their moral duty to aid those in need... Ta smiled at the Theedian.

"Well we are terribly sorry to hear of your loss sir." He said respectfully. "If you find yourself in need of further assistance, my brother and I are both bound for Harvest. Should our personal business not demand we go elsewhere, we could aid you in your journey."

Kestra was more than happy to let the caravan guard take custody. She wasn't here to babysit criminals in the first place: it was a mere trip to study her art that brought her on the journey in the first place.

"Kestra," the Caitsith replied with a tip of her hat.

Although she noticed the Peacemaker seem a little uneasy, Kestra wasn't interested in toying with someone with the authority to lock her up on a suspicion. In fact, she would much rather return to sleeping for the rest of the night to help starve off her hunger pangs.

"If you are in need of my expertise, I am more than willing to provide. Given adequate compensation, of course," she added.
