I haven't seen any guides on the promotion process yet, but I can say for certain that the only way to advance in the faction is to participate in faction events with PvP (Player vs. Player) combat, and to make overall contributions to the faction as a whole.

Impress the Dark Lord of the Sith. If you have to ask, you're not ready.

Ranking up has been revamped a bit. The basic idea now is that you can only rank up by participating in faction conflict threads, proving through pvp that you're character deserves to rank up. It's not about skills given to a character any more, you have to prove through threads where you're fighting other writers' characters that you have what it takes to take them down. That's how you have to rank up. Prove you're better than others and contribute in a real way to the faction IC.

Impress the Dark Lord of the Sith. If you have to ask, you're not ready.

Basically. It's focused mainly on achievement in combat. Killing Jedi, killing other soldiers, winning battles and wars, etcetera. If the leadership is impressed with your work, it means you've done something amazing. And then you usually get christened as a Sith Lord. Usually killing a Sith Lord yourself would grant you his/her title and position, but since there are no Sith Lords yet, it'll be focused primarily on combat achievement.

I'll tell you what. Ranking up means less in this Timeline than it did before. I say that, because of the obvious PvP aspect of this timeline. Where you rank up, you will obviously become a tastier target for others, and likewise, you'd be expected to target others with a similar skill level. Ranks this timeline are like they are in Canon (since we are following canon), where a Jedi Knight can compete in a duel with a Master and even a Sith Lord, but the title of that rank means more in the eyes of their peers as someone who follows their religion (faction) better than the rest. In the previous timeline, Rank was mistakenly associated with skill and power levels, which simply wasn't portrayed in the movies. Case in point being when Obi Wan, as a Padawan, beat Darth Maul, a Sith Lord. Or Anakin Skywalker, a Jedi Knight, beating Count Dooku, a Sith Lord (one stronger than Maul, might I add).

Only, on the Site, the OOC idea is that the higher ranks are rewarded to those that are capable PvPers for the reason that they represent the leadership in a Faction, and honestly, it shouldn't be as easy to kill leadership.

*I'm pretty sure I contradicted myself somewhere in there... but I think I got my point across somewhere along the way ;)

As somebody who sincerely f-cking hates and abhors character death, PvP and writing action, I welcome the changes to ranking up. It gives players who do enjoy combat and risk an incentive to RP, but relieves the pressure off players who don't. I had a horrid time with the three ranks last timeline, because I didn't like partaking in factional missions and I was constantly forcing myself to do things I didn't enjoy just rank up like my friends.

This timeline, Andromeda isn't just a Crusader aspiring to be a Master, she's a Sith Warrior. The lack of three ranks gives your character a chance to have a much more interesting story than just focusing on promotions. I also really dig the vague "Sith" rank, because it allows members to choose an identity or role for their character, such a classes or specialization. As Flame said, the rank isn't about power, it's your character's identity.

Case in point being when Obi Wan, as a Padawan, beat Darth Maul, a Sith Lord. Or Anakin Skywalker, a Jedi Knight, beating Count Dooku, a Sith Lord (one stronger than Maul, might I add)
Well to be honest, the Sith ranks in the films were really stupid and fucked up because of the Rule of Two. Maul was a Sith apprentice, but held the Darth title anyway just because, so his prowess was still the same level as Obi-wan's.
