Edith Morgan

Madame Jedi

_____________________________________________________

It is a popular rumour among the younger ranks of the Jedi that for as long as the Order has existed, Edith Morgan hasn't aged a day. The truth is significantly less interesting of course - however, it is no lie that Madame Morgan is seen as something of a constant in the Jedi Temple, having instructed many students in her career. Despite her lengthy career, however, Edith is considered unremarkable in comparison to many of her younger peers - shunning the limelight, she is known by her immediate peers in the Order and few others.

A private woman, Edith Morgan deflects any inquiries to her past with a stern look and a sharp reprimand, however it is clear from her skillset if nothing else that she was not always the refined scholarly sort that old age appears to have made her. Her hands are still clever and nimble, her eyes bright and keen with a sharp mind, a lifetime of knowledge and a seemingly infinite number of spoken languages, and though she has slowed with old age, like many Jedi before her she is capable of summoning vast amounts of stamina, strength and speed when necessary.

Biography

_____________________________________________________

To most people. Edith Morgan has lived a boring, uneventful life - a quiet, yet stern woman who lends her hand to teach students, but rarely ventures beyond the confined of the training grounds.

Fascinated by the legends of the Jedi from an early age, Edith Morgan chose not to follow her parents into political life. Much to their disappointment, Morgan instead found purpose with the Church of the Force. With very few real Jedi in the galaxy at the time, the Church of the Force tasked itself with preserving Jedi knowledge and teachings until the Order could return to the galaxy in full. Edith Morgan's efforts within the Church led her far and wide across the galaxy in search of lost treasures, hidden knowledge, or restoring ancient sites and temples. It was thankless, yet important work, and in her time travelling the galaxy on behalf of the Church, Morgan whittled away what was left of her family's money and prestige.

Due to the infancy of the Jedi Order at the time, the Church also served as a means for potential students to contact the Order if they were found to be strong with the Force. Despite her many romantic notions of one day becoming a Jedi, Edith never genuinely considered herself gifted with the Force, instead spending her time collecting as much knowledge as she could through her archaeological and restoration work.

It was only through a chance meeting when working on the lost site of the Jedi Temple on Dantooine that a tired and thirsty Edith Morgan felt compelled to drink from a nearby stream, only to have a pair of crystals land in her hand and turn green - kyber crystals, the rare and famous gems at the heart of a Jedi lightsaber, which had bonded with Edith immediately, proving her to be strong with the Force.

Beyond her initial tutelage with the Jedi Order which she was now a part of, Morgan's career as a Jedi was largely unremarkable - she would continue her work with the Church of the Force, often visiting archaeological sites or documenting gathered Jedi lore, but by the time she had become a fully trained Jedi much of her youthful, romantic notions of heroism and adventure were behind her, and Morgan proved content to spend time teaching students, visiting old ruins or liasing with the Church of the Force.

Personality and Traits

_____________________________________________________

Though outwardly stern and strict, particularly to younger acolytes and apprentices, Madame Morgan is, at her core, a warm, loving woman who cares deeply for both stranger and friend alike - her strict, disciplinarian facade is one of many tools she has at her disposal to steer students onto the right path, and she is easily one of the more recognisable instructors, with a reputation for being stern and sometimes even harsh, but also effective at dealing with problematic pupils or unusual cases.

Though slowed by age, Madame Morgan continues to lead as active a role as possible with her peers, making herself readily available to discuss any number of topics, or help with instruction or advice. While she is in no way a leader of the Order, more active Jedi often benefit from picking her mind on a large number of subjects - and she enjoys the company, anyway.

Surprisingly, Edith Morgan is an incredibly capable slicer - both with computer terminals and security doors. Her hands are rarely idle - even when grasping her cane, she often rubs the Convor shaped handle in thought, or moves her hands as she speaks, often clasping or fidgeting with her hands while deep in thought or under stress. Her clothes are often made of fine materials and accessorised with understated, yet quality jewellery, and her wardrobe is vast and varied. She also disapproves of clutter, uncleanliness or slovenly behaviour.

Incredibly capable of masking her facial and bodily expressions through restraint, also make Madame Morgan exceptionally good at sabacc.

Powers and Abilities

_____________________________________________________

Despite her many years of experience - perhaps because of it - Edith Morgan is not a particularly ostentatious or excessive user of the Force. Eschewing the more youthful or vigorous displays of power, Morgan instead advocates smaller manipulations, fine control and finesse, leveraging the least amount of effort for the maximum benefit.

This is not to say she is incapable of larger displays of power when necessary - a talented Jedi with many years of experience to master her craft, Morgan's age gives a false imrpession of her vigor - something she uses to her advantage as much as possible. An outwardly frail exterior hides a powerful fire that still burns within.

Morgan prefers to shrink her presence in the Force almost always - however, she does not seek to hide it, either. Instead, she balances her impression within the Force to an extent that it is unremarkable, but not too unremarkable - that those attuned to such things might note her presence and her Force connection, but overlook her as a frail, elderly old woman, well past her prime. Leaning in to this image has been one of her favourite tactics, and she takes great amusement in convincing others of her elderly, infirm status - much to the chagrin of her companions who know otherwise.

RP Notes and Reputation

_____________________________________________________

Most Jedi will have met Edith before at least once, but if they have they will most likely remember her stern attitude and disciplinarian facade - enough to balk at her glare if she disapproves. A more outspoken Jedi might privately consider her aged beyond her uselessness, or perhaps argue that she is too harsh and too mean a tutor, but still not seek to challenge Madame Morgan too directly.

Edith Morgan is largely unknown outside of the Jedi Order.

I'm going to ask for more clarity on this character's age, it's pretty unclear when reading. I will caution that being too old (like 70-80 or anything higher) your character wouldn't be able to keep up with younger characters in pvps and the likes. There really aren't any Palpatines or Yodas running around.

So starting characters have no reputation and could not be well-known even in the backstory. So, that will change pretty much everything specified under the RP notes section, in the first paragraph of the introduction setting, and anywhere else touching on how well known the character is.

I'm also confused about this

Old Republic characters - particularly Chandrilans or politicians, may have a passing knowledge of the Morgan name, remembering it as a once influential family that disappeared from politics some time ago.

The Old Republic... before the Empire days? Which is a super long at ago at the time period we are in? I'm not sure if this is meant to be New instead Old. But either way, the reputation thing still needs changes.

Also
flying whatever they could get their hands on and fighting for whoever paid the most, as long as it wasn't the First Order.

We are 100 years after the battle of Exegol where the First Order was destroyed. So for this to have been a possibility, your character would be more than 100 years old, which goes right back to it being difficult to pin this character's age down.

When these issues are addressed, tag me and I'll take another look :)

Changed the backstory and the RP Notes and Reputation section - also added a disclaimer since I think there's a bit of confusion on my intent there, so I hope that clears it up.

As for the age? I left it intentionally ambiguous in the draft, and that kind of made it over to the final copy mostly because I overlooked it, but I've set it at 85. If that's still too high, then let me know, but since I'm using Maggie Smith as the faceclaim I do kinda want her to be about the same age, or I'd have picked someone else :P

Thank you for the edits. They look much better and we are close to approval. Although you didn't have to cut out the character's background as a pilot. All I questioned was the First Order reference in it.

So, now my only issue with this is still the character being know by most Jedi. She is allowed to be known within her immediate social circles (quite a few Jedi who she would have interact with over the many years) but I can't approve of her being well-known/rumored about as described.

For example during timeline 7 we had a Yoda species character at Jedi Knight at 150+ years who still had who still didn't have any reputation beyond just his immediate social circle or anywhere
