DESCRIPTION
The EM-1 Corvette was pushed to be developed by Queen Emilia Parnelli of the Naboo to further showcase her planet's commitment to helping keep the planets of the ISC safe from outside threats. Originally the design was for the EM-1 to be a gunship rather than a corvette but when more design elements were incorporated, the joint team from the Theed Palace Space Vessel Engineering Corps and Christophsis Driveyards agreed that they would need to scale the ship up in order for the power and crew demands to be met. Ideally, the EM-1 Corvette is not supposed to get into a straight up fight with other capital ships or starfighters and it's design shows that this was the case - a heavy focus on speed, maneuvering and heavy shielding. If an EM-1 Corvette is seen in a slugging match with another capital ship, something has gone horribly wrong as the corvette is designed for rapid attacks against targets not already engaged. Designed to arrive before the main body of a fleet and make initial attack runs to destabilize both the shields and formation of the enemy prior to the arrival of the rest of the ISC forces, the EM-1 still acts, in many ways, like a gunship.
However, the EM-1 is a corvette because in order to have the features that were desired (a powerful main weapon, better than average speed, hyperdrive and shielding) the ship itself needed to be big enough to handle the extra engine and power supply required. Equally, these features require maintenance more regularly than other corvettes and, usually, these tasks must be undertaken by organic technicians rather than droids. This is why while the minimum crew requirements are low because the ship is easy to use effectively in the short term, it requires a much larger crew to keep it operating at that level for any real length of time.
LEGALITY
Restricted. EM-1 Corvettes are classified as capital ships under Galactic law, and possess heavy weapons. As such, civilian owners will require extra licensing to operate one legally, and will receive increased scrutiny by authorities.INTENT
Intent is to bring in a ship with the style of a Naboo/Nubian ship that has been scaled up and weaponized in order to be classed as a capital ship to mirror Naboo's increasing investment in the military of the ISC.RESTRICTIONS
Yes. EM-1 Corvettes are large capital ships, therefore these that cannot be owned or operated by individual characters. A faction would be required to obtain and crew a ship of this size.
