Jules was en route back to Zar IV a backwater planet in the unknown regions. The first time he was here he had been with Rafe. This time he was flying a Pyke freighter specifically customized for the slave trade.

As he sat there he thought to himself This boat is old, when he looked at the hull number it suggested to him that the ship was 150 years old or older. The engines and shields were clearly much newer and had obliviously been installed by a professional. The ship had passed his preflight and in atmosphere tests easily.

Jules had reviewed the scanner logs on his T-5 freighter and he had decided that he would target a settlement in the southern hemisphere. The settlement had a population of around 5000 with one road in and out. It also had a single bridge that he could take out if necessary. The blast and dash tactics he had used the last time had worked well. They had been on planet less than an hour.

They might be a little more picky this time however. They had brought 8 flunked with anti grav sleds to speed up the process, and do the heavy lifting.

As the Pyke Syndicate grew, so did its need for cheap labor. And what was cheaper than free?

Tysjor and Julius were tasked with finding some on Zar IV, a planet he hadn’t heard of until he’d been given the mission briefing. But that was a good thing— the fewer who knew about the planet’s existence, the fewer who would care about what happened on it. There were so many backwaters out there, after all, and what difference would it make?

For the Pykes, a big one.

As the ship entered the planet’s atmosphere, Tysjor turned to his partner in the cockpit, tapping a finger on the armrest of his seat. They’d already chosen a target, and it was conveniently difficult for any of the settlement’s inhabitants to escape, with only one way out. Now, all they needed was to work out a strategy to complete their task. If that was even necessary. Still, it was good to be prepared.

“We have a plan on how we’re going to round ‘em up?” he asked. “I figure we could blast that bridge and load them onto the sleds. Should be quick and easy if there isn’t any opposition.”

"Do you have your own stun pistols."Jules asked his partner. Jules had never worked with Tysjor before and was unsure how he kitted himself out. Pointing to a locker Jules said, "if you need there are stun pistols and batons. "

The last time we landed and a group of humans came to us they were a real mixed bag. Old, young, male, female we stunned every one that sat still and chased down the ones that tried to run away. This time I want to hit a larger group and take the prime specimens. We will study our target from space and try to hit a large concentration of males in good condition.

"The Pykes need strong healthy workers and I don't plan on it being me. Since we are not on the clock on this one I say let's put together a solid plan." Finished Jules.

“Yes. Right here.” Tysjor patted the holster by his hip that contained his pistol. He’d brought his rifle too, which was slung behind his seat. Although, that was only for show, and he doubted that there would be much resistance on a backwater planet like this one. “I may take a baton.” It might come in handy.

At his partner’s next words calling for a plan, Tysjor nodded. “Agreed. Let’s see what we’re dealing with.” Pulling up a holomap of the settlement, he placed it in front of both of them so they could see.

“We could take out this bridge, and land our ship directly in front of this road here, at the entrance to the village.” He pointed to each location on the map as he spoke of it. “The villagers will likely be hiding, and in that case we can go door to door. One of us can guard the sled and the other can get the ones we want out of the buildings.” After glancing at Julius to hear his thoughts, he nodded and continued on with an alternative.

“If they choose to resist… only the strongest will fight. We can stun them— they may be more, but they are outgunned. They will do well after reconditioning.” Tysjor set the map down. “Was there anything else you wanted to address?”

Hearing an alarm from his sensors Jules went to the console then called Tysjor over to join him. Shaking his head Jules said, "I don't understand this there were only 5000 people in this settlement and now there are more than 5000 in just this one structure. Zeroing in on the structure Jules increased the magnification. It kind of resembled a gladiator pit complete with stands surrounding it on three sides.

The fourth and open side would accommodate this ship. "Well so much for trying to make plans," said Jules. "I guess we just do a hammer and anvil charge in picking off the most likely specimens, and let the rest run away," Finished Jules.

Julius wasn’t the only one who had his attention on the map suddenly interrupted by the alarm, and Tysjor had already gone up with him to the console when he called. His partner was right— they would have to change tactics with so many beings in one place.

“That could work. We would only have to take out the fighters first, then the rest are easy pickings,” he mused, tapping his pistol as he looked over the structure. “We’ll have to work fast, stun the ones we want before they get away.”

As the ship approached the structure to land, Tysjor could already see heads turning in their direction as the humans seemed to notice it. Fingers pointed and faces turned up, gazes following the Pyke ship as it came to a soft landing where the fourth stand would be.

The ramp lowered and the Pyke stepped out, sweeping his gaze around the stands at the humans that would soon belong to them.

Hunting time.

There were two opposing teams wearing a light plastic armor but were not using any type of weapons that Jules could see. By his estimation there were 80 or so on each side of the field. They were intermixed with some older ones but most appeared to be human males in their early twenties.

The armor they wore appeared to do absolutely nothing to stop the stun rays. At first some tried coming down out of the stands. It didn't take them long to figure out it would be better for them to go any other direction.

Jules concentrated mainly on the lightly armored soldiers and saw no reason to kill any of them especially since they weren't even armed. After all it was only sporting.

The humans seemed to have been playing some type of game, given the armor they were wearing. But that didn’t matter. Out of the majority of beings he saw here, they looked to be the fittest, strongest ones, and they were standing right in front of them. They would do well.

Julius seemed to think so as well, and as his partner began firing stun bolts at the men, Tysjor joined in. He’d only downed a couple when he heard the crowd roar. Where there had previously been wondrous excitement was now a kind of unified response of anger and fear. His suspicions were confirmed when a crumpled up tin can of sorts landed in front of his feet, followed by other random objects. A deafening chorus of cheers followed that, and when the Pyke looked up, he saw another ship in the air, hovering above the field. It looked like a Wookie helicopter, but a little smaller and more compact. Reinforcements?

Men peered out of the vehicle and Tysjor could see the barrels of blasters along with them. Those were surely not set on stun, and from the ground, neither he nor Julius would be able to take that ship down without risking damage to their own.

“Let’s load these ones up and get out of here. The crowd looks ready to blow,” he said over comms, and with that he picked one of the armored men up and began to drag him toward the ramp. From there, he would pick up his rifle and point it up at the men in the helicopter, covering for Julius in case they started firing.

Jules activated his com link when the airship arrived calling the dorsal gunner he said,"knock out that airship." He then continued firing at the uniform wearing males. When he got to the end of the row he noted a dozen or so scantily clothed females and shook his head. "Not what he was after," he thought and turned his attention to the stands picking off any likely targets that met his criteria and were still in range.

He wasn't concerned when he heard an explosion in the air above him. He would have to give the gunner a bonus. He had hit the ship in such a way as to knock it clear of stadium. So none of the merchandise was damaged.

There was only one serious foray down onto the field after that but it was smashed with Jules dropping another dozen males. Two were wearing a different type of uniform and carrying slug thrower type side arms. He had fired all four of his peacemakers dry the two he had pulled from the locker and his own two he had even needed to reload his own peacemakers.

Tysjor glanced up as he heard the explosion in the sky, lowering his rifle. The helicopter was knocked out in a clean hit from the ship, sending it spiraling down into the fields outside of the stadium. A massive boom sounded after that. Impressive. By now, the crowd was in a frenzy, men and women climbing over each other as they tried to get out.

Julius seemed to be doing fine on his own, taking down a group of men on his own. Though, as Tysjor moved the armored man onto the ship and tied him up, he noticed that two more men with slugthrowers were heading right for them. More for us, it seems. As Julius was reloading, Tysjor fired a one stun bolt each in their direction before slinging the rifle over his shoulder again and pulling out two sleds.

He slid one over to Julius, nodding at the men who lay groaning on the ground.

“That’s some nice work. I think we have enough. I’ll help get them on the ship, and then we can deliver them.” With that, he ventured toward a group of men, picking one up and shoving him onto the sled.

When everything was said and done even with the 8 flunkeys almost a full hour had passed. Grav sleds were flying being pulled as fast as the operator could run. But every likely male had been put in binders and chained in the ship. Some of the remaining humans had stayed and watched from a distance but had not interfered.

Any time Jules had headed their way they had just retreated further. Jules had thought that there would be some sort of a try to recover their people but evidently shooting the airship down had struck terror too deeply in these people. When the last piece of cargo was loaded and the landing hatch sealed Jules headed to the cockpit ignoring groans and curses of his newly acquired merchandise..

The ship immediately took off and once they had exited the atmosphere Jules knew that they were good to go and began setting the jump coordinates that would eventually take them to the Dog pen. The Pykes corvette slave ship.
While setting back he received the final tally 216 young adult males, 14 young adult females, 16 middle aged males and 4 senior males. All human and all apparantly healthy.

The new slaves made only one attempt at trying their captors and Jules had quelled it by simply turning down the oxygen amount from 21 percent to 17 percent. He had then after an hour or so raised the oxygen level back to 19 percent causing each of them when they woke up to have a raging headache.

It would take four days to make their rendezvous, so Jules just let the crew and droids tend to the cargo.

Once all the cargo was on board, Tysjor joined Julius in the cockpit, content with letting the rest of the crew handle their new workers as he sat back in his seat and let Julius handle the navigation. In the instance where the men, having finally regained full consciousness from being stunned, initiated a feeble attempt to start a sort of rebellion, the Pyke had been ready to stun them all again before Julius found a better idea. The oxygen reduction had worked well, and there was little chance that their captives would try something of the sort again.

After learning about the time it would take to get to the Lonely Cub, Tyjor sent a transmission over to its captain to let them know about their arrival. From the corvette, they would make the necessary preparations in the brig and transport their workers to their final location.

But that was something that the Cubs could worry about. As far as Tysjor was concerned, as soon as they delivered their cargo, he and Julius’ part in this mission was over, and they would move on to the next one. Whether their paths diverged or met again was yet to be seen, but with the ruthless efficiency of his partner, he knew that he wouldn’t mind working with him again.

For now, he was content with knowing that for each step they took, the closer they got to a new golden age for the Pykes.

They docked with the corvette and transferred the cargo. The slave trainers actually seemed impressed with the quality and murmured about it. The flunkeys were seriously happy to be back, and raucously tramped across the bay headed for the mess hall and the entertainment suites. Jules could hear their boasts and calls back and forth.

A functionary arrived with two cases. Their payment for the cargo. Jules handed one to his partner then headed to a shuttle that would take him back to his own ship.
