Indyana was not going to admit yet that she was lost.

But three days without her personav(having left that on her ship), and following clues from one source, which she should not have trusted... she was definitely lost. She sighed in frustration, gritting her teeth as she gazed at a tree that looked like one she had looked at twenty minutes ago... It didn't help every other tree looked the same, shrouded in mist and with the lone cries of creatures she could not see, only sense.

The Pantoran female gazed about, shoulders dropping in defeat. She was bone tired, thirsty, hungry, and likely to cry in frustration if no more clues settled. Instead, she slowly padded over to one of the closest trees she could get to, settled her pak at her feet and set her blaster to stun in her lap.

Perhaps if she closed her eyes and meditated for an hour, an answer would come to her. Hopefully an answer in the hope of a guide of some kind... She tilted her head back, beginning to be lost in the trance of meditation... but with her senses slightly engaged.

Just in case.

Some yards away, a little figure, watched Indyana through the foliage. Tapli closed his eyes and opened them again.

This trespasser is blue as a berry. He thought quietly. The green hooded Ewok had been watching and following Indyana for over an hour. So far she appeared to be lost if he was being honest with himself.

All the same, Tapli didn’t want to take chances. What if she is a criminal? Few outsiders come to our moon and not always with the best of intentions. Gripping the stone spear in both hands Tapli slowly made his approach toward the blue skinned stranger after she sat down.

She is trying to sleep? If so she picked a good tree to rest at.

The bushes provided him excellent cover for his advance. Even so Tapli had to be extra careful not to make too much noise. Fortunately the birds above chirped and the water of the nearby stream aided him. His experience as both hunter and warrior taught the necessity of stealth in moments like this. Finally close enough in the left side from the alien Tapli knelt and considered his options.

Scratching his chin he subsequently noticed a rock big as his fist. Picking it up with one hand Tapli briefly grinned, coming up with an idea at last. Tossing it with a mighty throw the rock flew in the air. If uninterrupted the object would strike the ground in front of the alien with a loud thud.

When the rock thumped to the ground, her eyes flew open and she immediately whipped her blaster out, golden eyes flashing to alertness as she scanned her surroundings. No beings within immediate sight...

But there were eyes.

Willing her heart to slow, and holstering her blaster, she gazed down at the rock. Then back up again, scanning. Her fingers lightly grazed... and then, she understood.

Or at least, that's what it seemed to be. But she was simply taking a gamble. Rocks didn't just tumble from nowhere, at least not in her experience.

Not unless they were from her Master, that tricky old witch. She loved teasing her old Padawan in training, rocks pelting her from nowhere or sudden gusts of Force Push from deep within the jungle. She sighed... then slowly stood, showing empty palms.

Hopefully, if there was anyone there, they could at least understand Basic. She wasn't up to linguistic dusting off.
"I come in peace..." she called out, golden eyes scanning her surroundings.

"I'm just lost; can you help me?"

She glanced about, wishing now more than ever she had her personav on hand.
"Please?"

The outsider’s initial reaction was expected but not the speed of it. Tapli’s bright eyes widened in mild shock at how fast the alien drew a blaster. Her reflexes are as fast as wind. This trespasser is dangerous. He concluded, gripping the spear in heightened tension.

Tapli was no coward but even he knew that in combat can be decided in a moment. Many of his ancestors were slain by the skull warriors during the great battle long ago. He would need to use a diversion to get the drop on the blue alien. Further thought on strategy halted as Tapli raised an eyebrow at how his possible enemy subsequently calmed herself down.

She is not letting fear or anger rule her...interesting.

What Indyana did next gave him pause. First she declared she came in peace and claimed she was lost before asking for help. Could be a ploy at deception but for some reason Tapli felt she could be telling the truth judging by her behavior and looking at her golden eyes. Realizing he was putting himself at risk, the little Ewok suppressed a sigh before making the next move.

Suddenly he stood up at Indyana’s left flank, rustling the bushes in the process. Pointing his spear at Indyana Tapli maintained a defensive posture, showing he won’t fight unless provoked. However Tapli decided to have a bit of fun, by pretending to speak and know only Ewokese.

(Who are you and why do you like to look like a blueberry?)

"Uh..."

She probably seemed as nonplussed as she felt. If she were more alert, and not so worn down, she would have thought it hilarious. As it was, though, she simply blinked a couple of times. She didn't know the language at all... but the species was familiar. She read up on them on her way here... Natives to this moon, one of the few sentients.

Ewoks. Now the name snapped to clarity; it didn't occur to her she'd have to master the language, though! She had a feeling engaging this little fellow in combat wouldn't be wise; even though she probably could handle him in a fair fight, she just plain wasn't up for it. Her shoulders dropped in noticeable defeat, and she ran a hand over her face, accidentally leaving a small trail of dirt in its' wake on her cheek.

"I don't understand." Her head shook slowly, long violet braid shaking with the movement, then opening her palms to shrug her shoulders, then gazed back. Great.

So she was hopelessly lost, and the one sentient she met didn't know Basic. If she were feeling any less boneheaded, today topped it. If there was some sort of linguistic database on hand she could access... but reaching for her datapad wasn't wise, as it was in its' own holder next to her blaster, and they seemed pretty intent on using that spear if she did anything funny.

Though, she sensed no anger. Curious.

"I'm..." she sighed, then chuckled, then sat back on her haunches with a low grunt, her back and legs sore from wandering for so long without respite. "Looking for something special. I thought I knew where it was." Her lips twisted. "Clearly I was wrong, and should never pay top dollar for a worthless map. But you can't understand me, so what does it matter? I'm too tired to really fight anyways."

She settled back on the tree, and gave a faint, bitter half-smile. She could use her lightsaber... but she hated to. It was a symbol for some, sure, but to her it felt like a tool, something she wouldn't want to trivialize for some curious native who she couldn't understand, and probably thought her some odd sentient curiosity and would no doubt go on their way.

The outsider’s puzzled reaction amused Tapli though he fought hard not to show it. Typical aliens. Most don't bother to learn the language, assuming everyone speaks their tongue or rely on the living machines to translate for them. At times the young warrior finds that issue either amusing or annoying depending on the situation.

He maintained his defensive stance, Indyana on the other hand resigned in defeat. Is she giving up already? That’s no fun. However, Tapli’s frustration evaporated watching and listening to the stranger. He can hear the sincerity in her voice as she confessed once more about being lost.

Subsequently the blue woman rested on the tree, revealing how truly exhausted she is. Then the alien went on to claim to be looking for something special and expressing her troubles. Feeling awkward at the situation, Tapli slowly raised the spear away from Indyana. In the back of his mind he thought.

She needs help. Redwall wouldn’t want me to play mischief on someone in need.

He can imagine his mentor would slap him on the back of the head right now if she was present. A lantern bird squawked above them before flying off before Tapli sighed. Finally he spoke up in basic with an accent.

“What do you seek?”

"Eh?!"

Her eyes flashed when she heard him sigh, and then just speak in plain Basic. At first, she blinked... and then she laughed. Long, hard, hearty laughter that had her almost doubled over, arms over her sides until her breathing came in long, shuddering gasps, and then she finally calmed down enough to speak, still chuckling.

"I'm sorry, that was... that was good there, friend," she gasped, wiping tears away. "By the Force, I needed that."

After a few more moments, she managed to catch her breath properly, and slowly reached for her datapad, so he would see her movements. "An artifact. I look for things... that only history knows." She paused, and her smile dimmed into something sad, before she seemed to set the emotion away for the time being. "Sources of mine told me there was a cave on Endor's moon, and within this cave sat an artifact. But they may have been wrong."

She sighed, then gave a tired grin. "I forgot my personav. Else I would have possibly found the cave days ago..." she shrugged, then replaced the datapad. "But it seems I may have to call off the search." She withdrew from her hip a flask of water, taking small sips. "Sorry to disturb you, by the by. Indyana Sati, archeologist."

He expected the initial shock, after his little reveal but not what followed. The woman of blueberry skin began to laugh. Taken aback, Tapli drew back one foot, watching the stranger cackled to her heart’s content. For a few moments the young Ewok titled his head obviously concerned.

Great Tree help me! I may have driven her mad.

That fear subsided when Indyana explained she was pleased with the revelation. Grateful he hadn’t caused permanent harm Tapli listened to her story. Something in a cave? I can’t even pronounce what she called it but sounds important. Perplexed, the warrior scratched his left ear in thought before an idea came to mind.

Looking up back to the alien who finally introduced herself and her profession he replied, while puffing out his chest in pride. “Tapli son of Delli Madreck and warrior of Sharp Stone Tribe.”

Pausing for a moment he added.

“I don’t know what you’re talking about but perhaps our shaman could give you answers. If you can still walk we can reach the village in half an hour.”

"Well met, warrior Tapli," she responded warmly, she tilted her head, contemplating his following words of his village... and hummed thoughtfully. "I think I could... but I'd hate to be an intrusion for your village." Perhaps it was silly, but she and places with native people hardly went along well. Something usually happened... or rather, something of darkness happened. "But if your shaman has any idea, I'm definitely game."

Wincing, she managed to wobble upright, and grunted slightly at the stiffness in her knees. She didn't want to admit it, but she hadn't been out and about in nature for so long... and she wasn't proud of her appearance. She probably reeked, and didn't want to be an inconvenience while on the field.

This Tapli… he knew Basic. But did the rest of his tribe? She had the feeling this might turn out more interesting than she bargained for...

Tapli waved off Indy’s concern. “It won’t be a problem, we can handle one outsider. You should be more concerned about our little ones. They can be wild.” The Ewok chuckled at the last comment, knowing that was a massive understatement.

Amusement aside, he waited next to the blue woman. For an offworlder to travel all the way here Tapli would’ve thought they at least sort of prepared for it. This one is struggling. To think many call me reckless. With that observation, Tapli waved his spear for Indy to follow him.

Leading in front the scout walked down a small trail in between the massive trees surrounding them. Out in the distance north of them he could hear the familiar roar of a certain beast common on the moon. Realizing that Indy could be worried Tapli spoke up during the walk.

“Don’t fear the boar wolf is too far off to pose a threat. Sounds like it’s too busy looking for a mate anyway.”

Walking some more, curiosity continued to swell within Tapli as he pushed a long branch away, to give them both more room. He tried to hold in but another glance at Indy’s face caused him to comment.

“Your skin is blueberry. Why is that?”

Eyes widened at what he just said Tapli looked away embarrassed, pretending he was focusing back on the trail. The truth was the small warrior had never seen the stranger‘s species before until now.

Getting up to move after three days of off and on trekking was the hardest part, but once they were moving, it was far easier. She could feel a small amount of energy coming back as they continued on. Her lips cracked into a small smile at the mention of little ones, a small chuckle escaping her. "Ah, I see. I'm already doomed then," she grinned.

At least he seemed amused by her dire prospects. She didn't like seeming helpless... truth be told, though, she had half a mind to track down her ship, but something of this place called to her. Something that lured her deeper and deeper into the forests of Endor, until every tree looked alike and all creatures' bellows were more or less the same.

As she stepped on past him however, and waited for him to release the branch and follow, she tilted her head in confusion. Blue... berry? She puzzled, then it hit her when he looked back onto their trail ahead, and gave a good-natured grin, shaking her head subtly. The Force is full of curious beings... It would make sense he's never seen a Pantoran before.

"Where I'm from is full of ice and bitterly cold,"
she answered easily, grinning. "We paint gold on our cheeks for our clans, and there are many of those similar to me, much more blue than I am." Her eyes were sparkling with laughter, but she fought the urge, keeping a mostly serious face. "I never really considered it before... but then again, most don't care enough to ask." She grinned at that thought; most knew of Pantorans. But then again, Ewoks were relatively new to this galactic scene; she hadn't seen one up close until recently, but he knew Basic a lot better than most Hutt thugs she encountered.

Instead of being offended as Tapli feared she just seemed puzzled then amused when he glanced back. With great curiosity he listened to her explanation. There are more blueberry people? That’s amazing!

Nodding Tapli remarked. “We Ewoks symbolize our tribes and families by garments on our heads along with ornaments we wear as well.” To emphasize his point the young warrior proudly displayed his spear that had a white feather attached in between the stick and the spearhead.

“I won this feather honorably and without fear.”

He boosted with a confident smirk. As if on cue to prove him wrong something jumped down from a nearby tree in front of Tapli wearing an animal skull and raising both arms. The scout cried out and fell on his butt. Then the attacker started to chuckle before removing the mask and a white face Ewok wearing a brown hood was revealed.

Upon seeing who it is exactly Tapli’s cheeks turned red and he yelled in Ewokese, shaking his right fist.

(Rime!)

The other Ewok kept laughing. (Oh come on Tapli it was a bit of fun. You would’ve done the same thing.)

Still embarrassed Tapli huffed.

(At least my pranks have style.)

In the midst of their conversation the two Ewoks briefly forgotten about Indy behind them.

She smiled at his proud mention of his people; better than anyone, could she understand the need for family display. She nodded at the mention of the feather, about to respond, when the sudden appearance of another startled her guide. There were arguments in the language again; she wavered on her feet, exhaustion still lingering at the edges of her senses.

"A friend?" she spoke up from behind Tapli, a hand on her hip and a slight grin on her lips. "Or a foe?" She was teasing somewhat, though her guide's angry words with the other indicated an ambivalence in that regard. She was curious now if they were from the same... tribe, was what he said?

The Ewoks stopped, glancing back at Indy. (Is this human wearing blue paint?) Rime asked, tilting his head in curiosity. (No she is a different alien.) Tapli quickly explained before addressing the Jedi’s humorous question. Gesturing with the free hand.

“Indy this is Rime, my toothache of a cousin.”

“You say the nicest things.” The cousin replied playfully in decent enough Basic. Shaking his head, Tapli remarked. “As much as I want to get back you at Rime but I had to get our new guest to the village. She needs to see the shaman.”

Shrugging his shoulders the prankster commented. “Looking forward to it kin.” With a mischievous wink toward Indy, the brown hooded Ewok let out a cheer before charging into the nearby foliage.

“He is a spear in the rear sometimes but I am too heh. Guess it does run into the family.”

With that last bit of commentary Tapli resumed their march. Not long after Sharp Stone Village came into view. Like most traditional Ewok settlements, it was linked and supported by the giant trees like silent guardians. Indy would see some of the children playing, laughing and splashing in a small stream below the village. Watching them were a couple of mothers, who were collecting herbs and plants.

The settlement above was alive with activity as the inhabitants went about their business. With a loud shout one Ewok jumped with rope in both hands swinging from one platform to another. Tapli grinned, pleased to be home and gestured toward it all for Indy.

“Welcome to Sharp Stone Village.”

She chuckled at the back and forth, and the stare from Tapli's... cousin, did he say? "Pleased to meet you," she spoke, nodding once, the grin widening as the mischievous Ewok winked and disappeared back into the foliage where he came from. At his own comment, she chuckled. "Oh, I think you're alright. Helping me out of a serious bind and all."

She had heard stories of Ewok villages, but she still couldn't help her jaw dropping slightly at the construction around the trees, higher even in some places than she could see.
"By the Force..." she whispered softly, golden eyes huge. Suddenly, delight sparked to life, the grin bright on her lips. "This is a cool place! I've never seen anything like it."

For an alien to be impressed says a lot. He had heard some stories by Redwall about the outside galaxy like their advanced technology. I wonder what amazed her about our village. Deciding to ask later, Tapli headed for the roped ladder on the nearest tree. Once sure that Indy was still following the scout proceeded to climb.

Sentures who had concealed themselves in the bushes and tree tops continued to watch the pair. They have been ever since the stranger and their young warrior first approached the settlement. A few minutes later Tapli reached the platform. Subsequently he offered Indy his right hand once she was close enough.

Though the Ewok was roughly her width, she was sure she would have quite a few pounds over him regardless of if he was tall for an Ewok. But hopefully this shaman would have information regarding the artifact she sought... if, in fact, the cave it hosted would even contain it. Several clues pointed to here, but why a Jedi artifact would be on Endor was beyond her knowledge.

Staring at the rope ladder with some degree of trepidation more so on her behalf, she slowly climbed up. Already being physically exhausted, along with being emotionally drained and slightly dehydrated, took her a little longer than she expected. She knew there were whispers and stares, but she made sure to look as nonthreatening as possible. Even though Tapli and his cousin seemed fine enough with her, it was always safer to assume that you were an outsider than a guest first.

Some respect certainly wouldn't hurt.

Seeing Tapli offering his hand down, she took it, mindful to heft herself up and staggering up unsteadily, careful to duck slightly. She was not overly tall for a humanoid, but she wasn't going to leave too much to chance. She had been in residences of those smaller than her before, and it usually ended with her smacking her head into something.

Once Indy managed to stand on the platform Tapli let go. He can already tell that the alien was exhausted. A lot of outsiders good or bad often seem to underestimate the strength of the great forest. Before he could ask Indy if she was okay a grizzled looking veteran armed with a stone club and wearing a blue hood approached them both.

(Tapli who is this stranger? You should be more careful with whom you bring here.) Tensing up, Tapli replied to the middle aged Ewok. (Please pardon us Chief Nirpy but she means us no harm and is even struggling to keep standing.)

The young Ewok pointed at the tired Indy to make that clear. Nirpy examined her with suspicion before asking. (What brings her to our village?) Nodding Tapli explained the alien’s name and her purpose. Sighing Nirpy commented.

(Very well she can go see the shaman, but Tapli you are responsible for her. Understand?)

(Yes Chief I do.)

Subsequently Nirpy turned around and walked away. Of course there were warriors close by still watching the strangers. Turning to Indy the young scout said.

“That is our chief Nirpy. He was wondering who you were and why here. I told him and he agrees to let you see the shaman under my watch. Don’t worry the shaman lives over there.”

Gesturing with his spear toward the old hut in the center of the village meters away. Then Tapli went forward to the shaman’s tent.

It seemed her mere presence caused a disturbance here; she grimaced slightly at the notion of causing Tapli any more distress than she already had with her mere presence. But she did need answers, so who better to ask than a shaman? But she was bone weary, and the mistrustful stares and whispers, though nothing new, made her feel like she had to duck down into the floor and just vanish.

Ah, if only she could.

The older Ewok argued with Tapli; she couldn't understand what they were saying exactly, but no doubt it had something to do about her. The best she could do would seem to be the least threatening thing there. So saying she nodded once, meekly, walking along with the hunter who found her.

Wonder if this shaman is also 'blessed' with the Force, she mused to herself. Wouldn't that be a funny piece of irony.

Tapli felt bad for Indy. She was completely exhausted and dealing with mistrust. Of course he understood his chief’s reasoning. There was a whole tribe to look after and an unknown stranger was now in their midst. He stayed close to the archaeologist as they walked.

Beside the sentries watching them yards away some of the other inhabitants did as well. In a large basket on the right several Woklings looked up at Indy with great interest while their mother was making pottery. One of them smiled at the Jedi and let out a giggle, obviously happy to see her. An amused grin surfaced on Tapli’s face as he pressed forward.

“Those little ones like you.” He remarked to the Jedi. Moments later they reach the shaman’s hut with thin lines of smoke pouring out from the entrance.

Gnishe must be in mediation again. Tapli concluded before going inside with Indy. The pair would have a large room filled with things of nature like bones scattered across the floor, moss on the walls and in the center a fire pit blowing smoke. At the table and wall were tools and artifacts. Sitting in front of it was the shaman covered in ash wearing a gray hood with a cape.

The hood was further marked with a bird skull and two red feathers on top.

The shaman in question was chanting in the native tongue holding both knees. In the fire Indy would see numerous small vague figures moving about and shouting in an chorus of eerily voices. They were fighting one another with weapons that resembled guns and blades. Tapli could do nothing but watch as it enfolded. This is an omen.

Suddenly the fire let out a blast consuming all the figures before it died down. Subsequently Gnishe stopped chanting and turned toward her visitors. (Welcome outworlder, I have been expecting you.) She said in Ewokese and Tapli translated word for word. Her eyes white, physically blind but she seemed to be staring at Indy all the same.

With the wave of her right hand toward an empty she added. (Please sit, we have much to speak about. Son of Madreck you too and keep translating for us both.) Tapli nodded and sat down while telling Indy what the elder just said.
