DESCRIPTION​

Energy bows or "lightbows" as they are sometime's colloquially known are likely most reputed for their use by the Nightsister clans of Dathomir, but their use has stretched beyond that as well. They've been used by the Zygerrians and the Jedi Rangers in the distant past.

With a construct that appears generally similar to a regular bow and arrow, the uniqueness comes due to the fact that it has a plasma generator built into it that allows generation of a plasma string and arrow. When the grip is drawn back, a plasma "string" and "arrow" appear. When the grip is released, the string accelerates forward and launches the plasma "arrow" at the target. When not in use, the bow can be folded down for carrying and easier storage, but cannot be used in this collapsed form. The plasma generator is always capable of creating the bowstring, but it is only capable of firing arrows so long as there is a powerpack in place.

The strengths of this weapon are that it can fire an arrow with strength of a medium blaster bolt approximately 50 meters and it can do so extremely quietly compared to conventional blasters. This is particularly important as it allows much greater stealth when hunting game. The weapon also offers versatility in that they are capable of launching plasma cables to bridge gaps between buildings, trees, etc. and the string can be manually activated to slide across the plasma cables. The string and plasma cable are capable of being touched, but doing so with bare skin is generally ill advisable as it stings and burns similarly to a training saber. It is not capable of cutting and even simple cloth is able to keep this issue at bay.

The weapon is not without its downsides, however. Its performance is more akin to a blaster pistol in terms of range and power while its actual functional requirements are more akin to a blaster rifle: it is relatively large and requires two hands to operate. It is also not as user-friendly as blasters, which can be picked up by nearly anyone and used with at least passing proficiency. On the other hand, energy bows typically require specialized training to be able to use effectively.

LEGALITY​

These weapons are legal in virtually every system, though carrying one around and out in a crowded city is likely to cause some concern by the local authorities.

INTENT​

I have done a lot of fleshing out Nightsister lore and am now on my second character who routinely uses an energy bow so I thought it would be good to bring it into our site's official approval. This is a canon weapon that I am trying to make a little more concrete for the site.
