Theme

The lift descended into the darkest parts of the fortress, three Sith standing upon it, each selected to face the beast that had now called the catacombs it’s home. Whether they were chosen for their combat prowess or simply because they were disposable? Well, that was best left for each individual to ponder. The lowest levels of the once great domicile of the legendary Darth Vader were quiet, the warmth of the still recovering world raising the temperature of the passages significantly to a point that passing out simply from heat exhaustion was a very real possibility. Yet life still thrived below, and they were here to snuff it out.

Bir stood on the platform, lightsaber hilt in hand, as it finally touched down at the bottom of its track. His bare chest was exposed, as was the scar he had received on his pectoral, but even still the heat was near unbearable. With his free hand, he released the clasp of the cloak that was draped over his shoulders and allowed the fabric to fall to his bare feet as he stepped off the durasteel plate and onto the rocky surface. Despite the environmental challenges, he was beyond eager to scour the tunnels and to rid this world of one more gargantuan beast. Only the Sith shall be feared here.

”Are we ready, friends?! Glory awaits us!” Bir cackled, hunched forward slightly as he scanned the area ahead. ”Glory… Or death!” Tilting his head back in a laughter born of madness, Bir did not wait for a response but rather began to venture forth. Above, their forces were working to exterminate whatever threats may dwell within the fortress but down below was the true threat. Down here… Down here was where the fun would be had.

Myec stood there next to Bir. Silently watching the other Sith. He came here not knowing that he would be assigned with the looney bloke to come down here to handle the threats below.

Well at least it won't be boring. Myec decided to have a little fun of his own as Bir finished talking.

"Careful, Bir. You might knock yourself out with that excitement of yours and miss the action." He jokingly said when Bir tilted his head back. If the frame to the lift was there he may have knocked his head.

Following the other Sith Myec had the hilt of his lightsaber in his hand ready at moments notice to be brought to life. Looking around at their surroundings the young man wondered what they will come across down here. He knows the threat down here is far different from the surface.

The environment is nearly unbearable. He can admit that. So he removed his cloak to lighten the load a little. It did nothing to aid in relief from the heat but at least there is no way for beasts down here to grab him so easily now.

It sure is amazing how life can manage to take hold in an environment like this.

Corran stood beside the other two Sith and carefully studied his surroundings as the lift descended. The heat was nearly unbearable but he calmed his mind to ensure it did not effect him. The legends of this fortress were quite interesting indeed. Darth Vader, once mistaken as the child of prophecy or maybe was the child of prophecy depending on your interpretation, had left quite the mark on the galaxy. Admittedly, Corran was very excited to be in this situation.

The serious nature of the situation the three found themselves in was lightened by Bir's enthusiasm. It was indeed effective for Corran who felt himself grow a bit bolder at his excitement and he was not sure if that was a good thing or a bad thing. Either way, it worked. "Glory indeed..." Corran said casually as he removed the lightsaber from his belt.

"Relax Myec," Corran said as the three of them walked forward. "Are you seriously implying that Bir has enough strength to knock himself out?" Corran smirked at his little joke wondering how the other two would take it. It was hit or miss with members of the Sith Order whether they had a sense of humor or would try and rip you limb by limb for insulting them.

Forever tainted by his past actions, Bir had grown accustomed to the near-constant belittling from his colleagues. It was no secret to the galaxy that he had proven himself a fool time and time again but it was also no secret that despite his flaws, he was a man of both courage and utmost loyalty. His courage would feed his drive to accomplish the goals he had set out to see through and his loyalty would subdue any thoughts of malice against his companions… For the moment, at least.

”I’m afraid I don’t know who you are, bald one! No! No! Perhaps a mysterious man of malice and might?” Bir retorted with a massive grin, never breaking stride though craning his neck to look back towards Corran. A stalactite dropped from the cavern ceiling and with each step it would grow nearer to the crazy Kel Dor’s turned head. Just before it impacted, Bir pulled his head to the right while maintaining his gaze, narrowly missing the outcropping as he walked past it. ”Or perhaps merely another corpse for Bir to dance upon?” His smile grew exponentially at the thought. ”Only time will tell!”

As he finished speaking, a deep rumbling came from deeper within the cavern. They were growing near to their target. Bir could feel it’s presence, as did the others no doubt, and he knew battle was soon to be at hand. With a deep cackle, the Kel Dor stretched his back to his full height, cracking coming from between his shoulders, then ignited his blade. ”And perhaps sooner than we might think, hmmmm?” Bir drawed the sounds out as he rounded the corner into a massive chamber, no doubt a once large magma deposit, hollowed out over time. This was clearly the den of the beast, yet it was no where to be seen...

Myec glanced over at Corran wondering if he was stepping out of his comfort zone by joking with Bir. No matter. The young man shrugged, "Perhaps." Is all that he could think of as a reply to Corran, but then added,"We could just as easily be the ones to be knocked out and miss the action." He glanced to the bald humanoid thrn over to Bir as the goofball spoke up. As Bir spoke a stalactite miraculously missed him.

Following close behind Bir as they started to move. However there was the deep rumbling that came from somewhere deeper in the cave. Myec barely got out of the way of two stalactites that came down from the roof of the cavern. Feeling that they are getting closer to their target he ignited his lightsaber. Stepping into the hollowed out magma chamber, the magma draining out some time ago, he looked around. It is certainly big enough to house a massive beast.

Myec wondered if they are in the right chamber. If the beast was in here it would be very hard to miss it. Perhaps it is elsewhere? Stepping away from the other two Sith he carefully watched his footing to prevent himself from falling or accidentally kicking any loose stones. Holding his lightsaber with his right hand to keep his left hand free to use as needed to keep himself from falling if he slipped or if the beast attacks. From what he can see the outer edge of the chamber is relatively free of rubble. So Myec naturally chose to stay close to the wall of the chamber so movement will be easier and less risk of injury.

Myec did start to feelnsome frustration. He can sense the beast but for whatever reason he has yet to spot it. Perhaps this beast is able to camouflage itself? That could explain why it hasn't been spotted or as he thought earlier, they're in the wrong chamber. No kt has to be here. It feels far too close.

Blinking he then stood in place and looked up to see if perhaps the beast is perhaps up on the ceiling like an oversized bat waiting to pounce at them. Because of the height of the drained magma chamber the roof was dark. Making it difficult to see anything at all.

The Mad Marauder walked towards the center of the cavern, his lightsaber buzzing in his right hand as the blade remained pointed at the floor. He too could sense the beast; it was here. It could smell them. It could hear them. But where did it lie? As Myec turned his gaze upward, so did Bir. The shadows shielded anything that clung to the ceiling, claws sinking into igneous rock like a needle penetrating the softest of flesh? Again the chamber rumbled though the sound echoed around them with such volume that pinpointing it’s source was impossible for the average ear.

”It is all around us yet hidden from sight….” Bir murmured as he continued to stride towards the ever nearing center of the chamber, his attention still on the inky darkness above. Each step he took, he could feel the beast's presence growing. ”Perhaps it is scared, worried of facing us in a fight?” the Kel Dor chuckled before a soft cracking at his feet snapped his eyes below. There a crack began to form, dust rising as an indication of it’s creation. All Bir could do was begin to cackle, his face twisting into a malicious grin before speaking in a singsong melody.

”Foooound you,”

As if that were the cue, the gargantuan beast erupted from the cavern floor directly below the Marauder, forcing him to leap into the air to avoid being crushed. Amongst the sounds of carnage and the deafening roar of the Darkghast, Bir’s maniacal laughter could faintly be heard though his location was near impossible to tell. Debris rained down on the other Marauders as the four armed monstrosity climbed itself out of the depths. With half of it’s body exposed, it wrapped one of it’s massive hands around a boulder and threw it with such force at Myec that if it even so much as impacted near him against the chamber wall, it would undoubtedly crush every bone in his body.

Yet from above, Bir would once again emerge. Descending on the beast, he held his hilt in both hands to have the blade pointed forward and towards the Darkghast. The plasma would sink into the abomination’s right shoulder, just before the position where the protective shoulder plate met the back. All this warranted was a slightly irritated grunt as the beast twisted left and then snapping right, sending the Kel Dor flying to the northern section of the chamber. Bir would hit the ground, though slowed by his Force abilities, and not once did the cackling come to an end. The lightsaber wounded it but only slightly. This wasn’t going to be easy...

Of course he did not know who he was, and why would he, Corran was a brand new Sith Marauder who had not made a name for himself. He was still nothing in the eyes of the Sith, something that upset him greatly, but it was to be expected. Watching Bir dodge the stalactite and threaten to dance on his grave was quite amusing to be honest. It was nice to be around less serious Sith as the ones he had met were mostly dreary or power obsessed.

Then, without much notice, the Darkghast made his appearance. Bir was quicker on the draw than Corran was and he was not able to get out of the way nearly as quickly. The sudden appearance threw him off balance and chucked him against the wall. He was able to mitigate the damage with the force but it still did not feel great. Lighting his lightsaber he could not help but watch in awe as Bir charged in recklessly and attempted to slay the beast on his own. Corran chuckled as he was sent flying after stabbing his lightsaber in.

Corran looked around the chamber and decided he was too close for comfort to the beast so he launched himself up a few rocks to get a better vantage point on the Darkghast. Looking up at the ceiling he was looking for any sort of advantage then he remembered the stalactite that fell. Reaching out with the force he grabbed onto one that was rather large and directly above the beast and he ripped it from the ceiling of the cavern and yanked it down trying to give it more force. He watched as it plummeted down towards the Darkghast but was disheartened when it merely swatted it away.

"I am open to ideas!" Corran shouted to the other two.

Picking himself up from the cavern floor, his laughter subdued only momentarily by the need to cough dust from his lungs, Bir glanced over to watch as the Darkghast quickly swatted away the stalactite that Corran had intended to pierce it’s thick hide. Back on his feet, the Kel Dor scanned the chamber for Myec but could not find the lad. It seemed that until he resurfaced, the fight was to be left to Corran and himself. Calling his lightsaber to his hand once again, the red blade crackling to life as it slapped into his palm, Bir rolled his shoulders with a satisfying crack.

The beast was indeed powerful, likely the most threatening foe the Kel Dor had ever faced, but he knew that if something could bleed then it could die. The wound in it’s shoulder was insignificant but it proved that this thing was not invincible.

The Darkghast was now fully removed from the crater in the cavern floor, standing at it’s full and massive height as it leaned forward to deliver a blood curling roar, saliva and chunks of rotting flesh soaring outward from between it’s teeth. Slamming both of it’s lower arms into the ground, the chamber shook violently, further causing more rubble to fall from above.

Bir moved as fast as he was physically capable to avoid the immediate danger of the plummeting stone, closing the distance between him and the beast. When he was within arm’s reach however, the Darkghast pulled back it’s upper right arm and thrust it forward in a sweeping motion across the ground. The Champion had only just managed to leap into the air to avoid the collision with the claw, flipping upside down in the air as he soared.

It was this position that led Bir to witness what lay at the bottom of the chasm that the creature had crawled out from. The glow of a moving magma river below, pockets of flames born and dying off just as suddenly, provided them an opportunity.

Feet touching the ground again in a slide behind the beast, Bir coiled the Force around the molten rock and lifted a small orb of the material through the crevice before launching it towards the back of the Darkghast’s head. It collided with it’s neck and even despite it’s iron-like hide, it reared back in pain as flesh began to melt away before turning and charging toward him.

”Burn it! Burn the beast, my friend!” Bir cackled as he raised his blade to the ready. If the Darkghast got close enough, he would work to sever one of it’s fingers but hopefully Corran or the elusive Myec could draw it away.

Bir continued to move across the chamber as he launched orb after orb after molten rock towards the growingly agitated darkghast. With each leap into the air to avoid a thrown boulder or sweeping hand, the Kel Dor could sense that the beast was growing tired. His small stature and connection to the Force gave him an endurance that such a massive creature simply could not hold. Tossing around the weight of it’s body was slowly wearing away at it’s strength, giving Bir the edge.

Of course a second factor had been driving the mad Sith on, giving him a fiery ambition to succeed. With both of his partners selected to face the beast cowering away or knocked unconscious, Bir was left alone to find victory. Anger, frustration and a growing desire to prove that he had no need for either of them spurred him on. He would overcome his past failings here and now. He would be as powerful as he knew he could be. On a world so tainted in darkness, he could tap into a newfound strength that was fueled by his ambition and anger.

The darkghast leaned back in a mighty roar next to the crevice it appeared from before slamming both of it’s lower arms into the ground, the claws of each hand implanting in the rock before pulling it’s body back. With both of the secured arms propelling it’s upper shoulders forward, both high tiered arms lurched forward on his position, clouds of dust and rock erupting forth as they connected with the chamber wall behind Bir. Yet the Kel Dor had once again evaded the beast.

Launching himself into the air, Bir coiled the Force around yet another collection of magma from below only this time, he grabbed as much as he possibly could with both hands. Still gliding alongside the beast, the Sith pulled his arms upward, the molten rock climbing as a pillar of fire until it came cascading down on both of the beast’s extended arms. So much molten rock covered them that as the darkghast reeled back in pain, it’s elbows soon ceased to exist thus leaving the forearms laying across the cavern floor.

Bir came to a sliding stop on the other side of the cavern as his foe continued to wail at the loss of it’s limbs, the claws of both lower arms still locked within the chamber floor. The crevice that led to the magma stream below was right beside the beast and Bir recognized now was the moment. Hurrying to his feet, unaware of where his lightsaber had gone during his landing, he quickly reached out with the Force one last time, pushing down on the crumbling ledge the darkghast resided on. Already weak from the beast’s violent entrance as well as it’s stationary weight atop of it, Bir’s added influence began to collapse the cavern floor even further. A sudden sinking area around the beast occurred that only further drove it’s panic to escape but without the aid of it’s upper arms, it was unable to dislodge itself and move to safety.

Bir continued to push, harder and harder, until finally the cavern entirely gave way and sent the darkghast splashing down in the river of molten rock. Yet even with his foe subdued, Bir would not find himself safe until he retreated from the catacombs continued to shake violently. Rocks began to fall all around him as evidence that the chamber was about to collapse. Scowling and giving the chamber one last survey for his allies, Bir would retreat the lift and ascend to the Mustafarian surface… Victorious.

@Nommie @Hairless Wookie
Hey guys, obviously your PCs can survive the collapse of the chamber but I needed to finish this thread and we've been waiting long enough.
