So I was thinking the other day, and started talking about it with other people. Who are your favorite authors in EU? Feel free to elaborate why, or not.

Here's my top 5:
  1. Timothy Zahn - Cause everyone loves Thrawn. He's one of the most prominent writers of the EU and was one of the reasons that EU got reinvigorated after a lacking 80's.
  2. James Luceno - Two of my other favorite books are Darth Plagueis and Tarkin. I honestly haven't read any of his others, but these two put him up here for me. Also, the only author on my list to work in new canon so far.
  3. Michael A. Stackpole - Wrote a good chunk of the X-Wing series, as well as I, Jedi.
  4. A.C. Crispin - The Han Solo Trilogy. She was a fantastic writer, who I wish had written more SW EU.
  5. Michael P. Kube-McDowell - Author of the Black Fleet trilogy, another set of books I enjoyed.

Dishonorable mentions:
Karen Traviss - books are plagued with inconsistencies of preexisting canon, and in general, her content is a little lacking for me.

R.A. Salvatore - Yuuzhon Vong. That's the only reason. He is a great writer in all respects, with his non SW content supposedly being amazing (I have a few friends who are more into the D&D stuff), but I just really dislike the very concept of Vong in canon.

So. What are you guys' favorite and least favorite authors?

Timothy Zahn of course.

Matthew Stover wrote the best novelization of the prequel books and it's his story that makes me enjoy Revenge of the Sith. Shatterpoint was also really good.

Jude Watson for the Jedi Apprentice series. Cemented Obi-wan Kenobi as my favorite character in the Universe.

Dave Wolvertons Courtship of Princess Leia remains one of my favorite of the various early 90s Star Wars books.

Kevin J Anderson with the Jedi Academy and Young Jedi Knights Series introduced some of my favorite characters and concepts in the later EU.

Star by Star was by far the best NJO book except for maybe Unifying Force, so a nod of the head to Troy Denning. Head then removed for his work on the Legacy and Fate series.

May everything that Karen Traviss touches wither and die.

Hate to bump this, but I'm interest in hearing from more people.

Also, I just finished Lords of the Sith, and I'm definitely looking into more of Kemp's work. Too early to say if he makes it on my list or not, but the book was pretty good, with the limited amount of new canon he had at his disposal.
