DESCRIPTION​

The Fenion Ram-class cloakship is a specialized class of stealth warship developed and manufactured by the venerable Domel-Berger Yards corporation. Originally ordered by the government of the planet Fenion, which sought to use the ship to attack a blockading corporate fleet which held the planet under siege at the time, the original Fenion Ram took advantage of a number of technological advances in the science of cloaking devices since the days of the Old Republic. Although it took 10 years for the Fenion government to pay off the single example they purchased, the vessel was a major success on the battlefield, and is widely credited with reintroducing the concept of cloak warfare to the Galaxy after a long absence.

The Fenion Ram is built around a stygium cloaking device. When active, the cloak renders the vessel invisible to the naked eye, as well as to most sensors, making it extremely difficult to detect. The cloak does have limitations, of course - the ship cannot fire weapons while it is active, and using active sensor systems would negate the ship's invisibility to enemy sensors - but its integration into the design means that the ship does not suffer from the speed penalty some other cloak-equipped vessels have, due to a dedicated power system for the cloak which does not draw from the main reactor except in emergencies. Nevertheless, this dual power system means that there is not much space left for things like passengers, cargo and weapons.

The Fenion Ram is lightly armed for its size, mainly relying on stealth to give the weapons it does have an out-sized impact. Originally, and as the name might suggest, the Fenion Ram was designed with its sole armament being a giant duranium wedge which it would use to ram enemy ships while cloaked; this was discarded early in development as being highly impractical and unsafe for the crew, and so the current armament was developed. The Fenion is equipped with 2 heavy torpedo launchers, closer in size and power to those one might see on a ship many times its size. Each launcher has a magazine of 20 heavy projectiles, with standard procedure being to de-cloak, fire off a pair of projectiles and then re-cloak before the enemy can react. This can be difficult in the case of a prepared enemy, but the Fenion is well equipped to achieve the element of surprise. In the event that it can't, of course, the ship has a class 4 hyperdrive and a top speed of 75 MGLT with which to escape, as well as 4 quad laser turrets for fending off small craft sent to intercept it.

The Fenion Ram has a crew of 25, plus space for 25 passengers, consumables for 2 months and 500 tons of cargo. Although hardly a transport, the Fenion is often employed as a blockade runner, as well as a VIP transport, and as an insertion/extraction method for special forces and intelligence units. Generally, however, the Fenion Ram is intended for commerce raiding and ambush work, in which it excels.

Fenion Rams, although originally designed for a single customer, are available from Domel-Berger to more or less anyone with the credits to pay for one. The price for one of these cloakships is steep, however, and generally only large factions are able to afford even 1. Nevertheless, they are becoming just common enough that many groups are having to factor the existence of it and cloakships like it into their plans...

LEGALITY​

Restricted. Fenion Ram-class cloakships are classified as capital ships under Galactic law, and possess heavy weapons, not to mention a cloaking device. As such, civilian owners will require extra licensing to operate one legally, and will receive increased scrutiny by authorities.

Fenion Ram-class cloakships are potent stealth vessels which are ruinously expensive to acquire, and cannot be owned or operated by individual characters. They may be acquired as faction assets, however.
