“The kriff you mean I need a ‘guide’?” Cav growled, half considering just shooting the man in the face.

“I’m sorry sir, this is a delicate archaeological site and no one is permitted to just wander in,” The old man was unfazed. Cav was grinding his teeth together beneath the helmet.

It was bad enough that he was out here under the glaring sun on Jakku, but now he needed a damn babysitter. He was here chasing after rumors of an artifact tied to the old Sith. Word had it that it was a dagger of some sort that would be of great value to the Crimson Dawn. He had originally thought to come at night, but the place was going to be closed off with a billion archaeological students setting up camp.

Cav was standing at the site of some old ruins that sat at the bottom of a canyon. He stood at the edge of the canyon, glancing down at the descent that led to whatever had been excavated so far. A ‘guide’ would certainly complicate things, but he trusted he could perhaps sneak out what he needed.

“Fine,” He said finally to the old man, “Get me the kriffing guide.”

Jakku, like Tatooine, was a absolute dump.

Ana wiped her forehead with a damp rag, sighing and grumbling to herself. The pale sun of this world cast down a harsh, hazy heat. The air felt like the inside of an oven and she was certain that she could fry an egg on any one of these rocks if she wanted to. Her clothing, the typical get-up for an adventurous archeologist, complete with a nice leather hat, stuck to her skin. She normally kept her sleeves rolled down to prevent sunburns, but it made her hotter without the breeze, so she’d decided to roll them up for a change. She’d come to this world in search of an artifact dating back to the times of the ancient Sith, so, naturally, she donned the disguise of an archeologist and prepared immediately to twist and connive her way to the goal. She’d been here for a while now, however, and so far, none of these idiots had any inkling of what it was they were looking for.

Luckily, few people questioned her presence, and those who did were often mentally manipulated into believing her cover story anyways, so she operated with relative anonymity. At the same time, however, her knowledge on the Sith and their artifacts ended up making her a sort of de facto subject matter expert among the students here, much to her chagrin. It was rare when she had an hour to herself to conduct her own research on the dig site to best prepare for the traps that lay within before some rosy-cheeked idiot came up to ask her what this stone tablet said or what species that bone belonged to. She didn’t care, and most of the information she provided was blatantly untrue, but nobody ever questioned her.

She was beginning to prepare for her foray down into the ruins when an older man approached her, flagging her down. She paused, sighed, and turned to look at him. ”Excuse me, Dr. Ravenwood?” he asked, ”I’ve an unusual request… Someone outside of the expedition wants entry and needs a guide…” He trailed off and looked at her expectantly, prompting her to sigh. ”Fine,” she said, ”Point me towards them.” The old man nodded and turned around, pointing towards the Mandalorian in the distance.

A Mandalorian? Here?

Her interest had been piqued at once, and she gathered her belongings, namely her satchel – which contained, most importantly, her lightsaber, among other various personal items – and her toolbelt. A small vibroknife hung in its sheath on her hip for good measure, though she doubted she’d need to use it. She began to wander towards the Mandalorian, eying him with idle curiosity. He was, like most men, taller than she was, and his unique armor stood out like a sore thumb at the dig site. Several people were staring at him in confusion, wondering what it was he was doing here, but Ana’s piercing gaze warded them off.

”You’ve a remarkable way of arousing suspicion,” she remarked as she approached him, her boots crunching in the sand beneath her feet, ”What is it that your people look for in ancient dig sites that brought you here? You won't find any guns down there, I can assure you.”

Cav crossed his arms over his chest as the diminutive woman walked up and began to blab. He wasn’t exactly a man of patience, and he was already irritated to begin with. Having a miniscule woman mouth off to him first thing was making his blood boil.

“Where are your parents, little girl?” He said gruffly, looking down at her, “You appear to be unsupervised,” He grumpily walked past her and began to walk down the canyon. If he were stuck with a mouthy guide, that would make this ordeal even more painful.

However, in some ways, he began to realize that he did need a guide. He couldn’t make heads or tails of the site, and most of it was buried under sand. The rumors spoke of some chambers that were partially buried but still accessible.

“Where’s the entrance?” He asked after he didn’t spot anything obvious. The information he had suggested that there were a series of underground tunnels that would lead to the artifact. It had been left at the site because there were disputes on where it should be sent.

Ana folded her arms across her chest as the Mandalorian gave her a once-over, mirroring his stance. He was, as she figured, gruff and rude, but she was accustomed to being talked down to thanks to her diminutive stature. She figured that she made up for it with a commanding presence, though it clearly had no effect on this sour bushel of grapes. He shoved past her and began walking down the canyon and she trailed behind him, though it was immediately apparent that he had absolutely no idea where he was going or what he was doing. She stood there, arms across her chest, and watched him fumble around for a bit, a smirk plastered on her face. Not just rude, but dumb and rude.

”I’ll introduce you to my parents once we get in the ruins,” she said sarcastically, ”Until then, maybe you’re the one who needs supervision.” She sauntered casually past him and knelt down by a large circular stone, blowing the sand away to read its ancient inscriptions. ”Enter these tombs and face your demons,” she recited, lying through her teeth. The stone’s inscription really read “Bathroom within,” but she wasn’t going to tell him that. She knew there was nothing but a small hole inside a little cave beyond the stone, but she wanted to reinforce the fact that he needed her help.

”I’m a bit small and this is a bit heavy. Mind helping push this aside?” She stood up and backed off, brushing the sand from her pants, hoping he’d comply. If he did so, he’d see nothing but the aforementioned hole in the ground, but she’d already be moving across the site to where one of the real tunnel entrances were. If – or rather, when – he joined her, regardless if she fooled him or not, she’d be on her hands and knees, crawling through the small caved-in entrance into the expansive tunnel network, eager to get hunting. He'd never have found this on his own, and she knew that he'd need her assistance in navigating the ruins just as much as she'd need his. They both wanted this artifact, but only time would tell who actually left with it.

The tunnels were dark, and she had little in the way of lighting except for a small flashlight, which she promptly turned on and shined around the tunnel. It looked ancient, though even in its state of immense disrepair, its craftmanship was impressive. She waited for a moment on the Mandalorian before setting off down the tunnel, looking at the walls in wonder.
