Pay for the services that you may need one day. Especially in a Dixie state like Tennessee.

"I thought they'd come out and put it out, even if you hadn't paid your $75, but I was wrong."

Wow, YA THINK!?!?

Republican pig, forcing even basic services like fire departments to nearly privatize in order to provide a service that should be done by taxes.

It allowed choice. And unfortunately for them, they made a poor choice.

I'm wondering what their home owner's insurance is going to have to say about all of this...

:(

Agent: So let me get this straight, the city offered you the services of their fire department for a whopping $75 a year, and you turned it down?

Firefighters should be executed for treason against the greater good.

...I was saying that not helping them because they didn't pay a service fee is ridiculous. That's not exactly Republican. That's more like "don't be an asshole."

Yeah, this. Were it me, I'd prolly atempt to grab the hose from them and use it, even if it hurt or I got arrested. There's following rules and then there is just being an outright ass. Those firemen did not deserve to be firemen.

If you're in favor of people paying for their healthcare, then paying for your firefighters isn't that much of a stretch.

Though I think it sucks, I have no pity for the people who owned the house. I would assume they had been told about the fee in advance, probably even several times. They knew the consequences, and still refused to pay.

Everyone pays for emergency fees. The money comes from your taxes. No idea what the tax situation is down there, but it's ****ing $75 a year! That's hardly anything.

Yeah but this wasn't taxes. It's a fee. Like, if you want Direct TV, you pay a fee, or else you don't get it. That's not how emergency services should work. Put it in taxes, and then people will pay it.

Regardless of whether they should've been required to pay a fee, firefighters should be like doctors. Do your job first, worry about the bill later.

Agreed. Just chilling there and watching it burn was pretty lame of them.
