Fists were flying and so were the drinks. Credits switched from one hand to the next with new bets changing each minute. A competitor fell and another entered, hoping to hold the ring longer than the last schmuck who just had his teeth knocked in. The rules were simple. Throw in your money and fight to keep it; a loss was a loss and the last man standing won the pot.

Angled round at the bar, Shaye watched with interest the sparring taking place. It wasn’t anything professional but it sure as Hoth was fun to watch. Tonight’s crowd was a lively bunch, all eager to make a profit and maybe spill a little blood. If not her badge (discreetly tucked away), Shaye might have joined in, just for the sake of it. But fistfights and drunken disorder would be hard to explain to the brass upstairs. Best lay low and enjoy the show.

The next fight was starting and Shayne ordered another drink to go along with it. A Devaronian taking on a Quarren. No contest. Shayne put her money on the horn head; they were scrappy and not above using those horns for gouging. Time to sit back and rake in the credits.

"OH COME ON YOU SORRY SACK OF BANTHA CRAP, HIT HIM ALREADY!" roared the rather piercing voice of Shai as she stood cheering next to the ring of fighters. She was tempted to jump in herself, but odds of coming out not folded up like a camping chair were slim to none. So instead she cheered the fighters on and betted risky amounts on them. So far her bets were well placed and would be again as one fighter got knocked out. A loud, cackling laugh poured from her as she threw her arms in the air. "Pay up, kiddies!" she said to the other onlookers as they grumbled in disappointment.

The next contestants caught her eye immediately. It wasn't even a challenge. Not for the Devaronian and not for anyone betting. But still people betted on the squid-head. She placed her bets again and stepped back with a happy grin, knowing she was going to get her money.

She usually avoided Underworld like the plague. It was vile and too much, even for her. But when getting info like this, something that could bring in a lot of money, she was willing to ignore that feeling. But right now, she had time to kill...and a chance to make a few more credits.

She wandered over to the bar and ordered a shot of whiskey. After downing it and ordering another, she lit a cigarette and took a long drag. She glanced at the other patrons and noticed a woman intently watching the fight unfold. "Trick question, but who're you betting on?" she asked with a smug grin before looking back at the fight. It really wasn't much of a bet.

Shaye heard the laughter first before finding its source. Underworld attracted all sorts it seems, even walking, talking animals. Who would have thunk it? The female was loud though, even over the hollering of the crowd, Shaye could heart her yelling. She seemed to be doing pretty well for herself, judging from the credits she just pocketed. The question now is, would she wager them or drink a dozen's worth in booze?

Before the answer revealed itself, the Shistavanen came sauntered over, a toothy grin if ever Shaye saw one.

"What's the trick?"
She quipped, albeit with a dry overtone. Normally, she wasn't much she conversation, not with strangers. But the evening wasn't that much of bust.

A bit of chit chat wouldn't hurt, especially someone Shaye would probably never see after last call. "Devaronian fight dirty, everyone knows that. Quarren hasn't got a chance." As if proving a point, right on cue, a severed facial tendril came flying out of the maylay, followed by a less than pleasant shrill.

Shaye just glanced at the appendage, watching it twitch and wither before finally going still. Damn thing almost plopped into her drink but the bartender wasn't in a rush to clean it up.

"Quarren should tap out if he knows what's good for 'em." Jutting her chin back towards the fight, Shaye took another sig the glass, gulping the last of it. "Watch, the Devaronian's gonna go for an eye next. Bet he even uses his tongue do it" She'd even it happen before, a Devaronian shot its tongue out, the force going straight into an opponent's eye, effectively blinding 'em and stealing the match. Use what you got, right?

Shai listened to the woman talking while she smoked her cigarette. "I won argue with y-" the tendril and the scream cut her off, making Shai recoil as she looked at the thing on the table with a rather concerned expression. "Well that just went from zero to a hundred real karkin' quick." she commented, looking back at the woman. She watched the drink disappear as the woman finished her drink. Shai followed by downing her own shot glass and placing it on the counter again.

"Anything short of a Wookiee, Trando or a karking Besalisk should have tapped out if they knew what's good for them." she commented, looking back to the fight and smoking her cigarette. After a moment she looked back at the woman. "Yo, can I buy you a drink?" she asked her with a smirk. "Get this lady whatever she wants." she ordered the bartender before extending her hand to give the woman a very enthusiastic shake. "The name's Shai, by the way. What's yours?" she asked her, leaning against the counter right beside the woman. "You just here 'cause boredom or are you here for work?" she asked her casually as she flicked away her cigarette bud.

Shaye was never one to turn down a rink, and why should she? She wasn't on duty, And, well, if someone else was buying. "Tevraki whiskey." It was a strong drink, one that burned like sweet fire when drunk, coating the drinker's tongue and sending warmth through their limbs. Gave her the shivers it was so good.

Downing a shot in one, and sliding a glass over, the Kiffar attempted to hide her smile. "Shaye. With a 'y'." What were the odds they'd have such similar names? After a couple of shots, she might even laugh about it later.

But when the Shistavanen brought up the topic of work, Shaye closed up a little. "Boredom, really. So many levels and kriff all to do." Truthfully, she was trying to get a lay of the land. Sourcing informants, collaring small crooks and bringing them in line. Lucky her, Coruscant offered a variety of crime. Which category did this biped belong to? Hopefully something small. Shaye didn't feel like dragging someone in, not on her night off.

Not recognising her face from any outstanding bounties or warrants, the dark-eyed fury decided to leave that trail of thought alone. Off the clock, off the books, so she kept telling herself.

"What about you? "

"Gimme that too." she ordered the bartender. "...Actually, just leave the bottle here." she continued, flashing her new friend a grin. She introduced herself and Shai gave a chuckle. "Now that's a coincidence." she quipped before downing a glass. She took a seat next to the girl and refilled both their glasses. "Hot damn, I need to get some of that." she said a little out of breath, giving a slight cough as her face contorted. "Man, haven't had that in a while." her voice came back to normal.

Shaye explained why she was there, earning a chortle from Shai. "That's Coruscant for ya! I've never been a fan really." Shaye turned the question on her and a sly grin spread on her lips. "Bunch of reasons! Partly here 'cause I'm in between jobs. Partly here 'cause I heard of a rather interesting opportunity..." she bounced her eyebrows a few times as she gave Shaye a sidelong glance. "...partly looking for some fun." she finished, curious to see the woman's response. Usually people gave all kinds of hilarious responses when she made a move on them.

"I'm just playing!" she admitted, giving her a light tap on the shoulder as she snickered. "I don't think anyone's drunk enough yet to ignore the fur." she dismissed. "I am here chasing a story, though. Some underground deal going on for a big shipment of weapons. Supposedly big money. Would be great to get a proper payday finally." she explained to her, looking her over. The girl looked like the type she could trust. she also looked like she could handle herself. If Shai could get her on board, those weapons were as good as hers...

Seems Shai could hold herself when it came to strong booze; many coughed on the first taste, finding the taste too strong to bite back at. The first case Shaye every cracked as a ranger, she drank herself silly on this whiskey. Just thinking about that night made her smile. For old time's sake, she took another shot, the warmth pooling in her gut.

Any second later, and Shaye might have been spitting out the drink, coughing on it. Did this bizarre alien just proposition her? Never missing a beat, the Kiffar was ready with a glance of her own. "Careful now. Too much fun can get you done." She then followed this with a wink, letting the ambiguous words linger between them.

Shai could certainly lift a mood. Fighters were beating themselves bloody and here they were shooting whiskey and swapping words. Not a bad evening after all. Then the alien said it. The magic words that peaked the entirety of her attention. Shipment of weapons. Her eyes closed momentarily at the thought.

"A story, huh?" Technically, it would be a logistical nightmare. Shaye could gain some valuable insight, sure, maybe learn some faces and collar them later but what about the weapons though? If they went into circulation, how many would be harmed? Could she deal with something like that, even if it resulted in some lucrative arrests? This was all very risky, in more ways than one.

Then again, she'd heard of rangers doing worse.

Don't do it, she told herself. Don't kriffing do it...

Opening her eyes, Shaye looked over to her company, shot glass in hand ready for another hit. "I like stories..."

Shai flashed a rather sly grin at Shaye, chuckling at her comment. "I've found it's usually the risky stuff that's the most fun." she commented with a wink before downing another shot. The mention of the shipment seemed to interest her, making Shai scoot a little closer as she snickered. "I'm glad you do..." she filled her glass up and clinked her own against it. "Basically this other hot shot from the Crimson Dumbasses made some big deal to have a big shipment of weapons delivered. But they messed up their scheduling. Now their delivery guys are running late and will take probably the next two days or so to get here." she explained.

Another shot went down and she refilled. "Thing is, I know a few people that would pay a ton of creds for that shipment. Especially if the person doing the selling can't be linked to anyone else. So I was thinking we move in, swipe that shipment out from under them, then fly off to go get stinking rich." she explained calmly, keeping a level voice. Any louder or softer and she might be drawing attention...and the less people knew about this, the better. "I got a bunch of stuff going on, so those creds will help a ton...plus I don't like the Syndicates. Bunch of karking losers, those guys." she commented, helping herself to yet another shot. "I'm a free bird...dog...whatever. I think this stuff is getting to me. You feeling woozy at all? I'm feeling rather cozy...hey, you're cheating! You're barely touching your drink!" she started rambling, the alcohol clearly audible in her voice

The furry alien chugged drinks like a champ. Shaye was almost impressed; not many could handle multiple shots but bless, the fanged fiend was going for gold. When she called Shaye out on her lacking participation, she stole a shot and owned it, snidely citing, "Quit hogging the sauce and maybe I won't need to leave you hanging."

The weapon shipment was tempting. Convenient too. She needed a score, especially after her last assignment; damn partner had done her in, leaving Shaye with a less than impressive reputation. If the Kiffar hauled in some gun smugglers than maybe she can earn a couple of stripes. "Pooch, I'm not gonna lie, this all sounds pretty tasty. But I hope you can fight as good as you drink because the Syndicates ain't none to kriff with-"

Shaye's cut off. In their hushed discussion, the fighting had broiled over. A credit dispute had started and punches had been thrown; now everyone wanted a piece of the action.

"Uh, oh. Might need to amscray, before the going gets tough." She hoped Shai was sober enough to walk because the door was a fair few tables to away. "How about a little air? This party's about to bust."

Tossing a couple of credits, Shaye cleared her tab and watched the ensuing fight; it was kind of chaotic, with bodies tackling one another and laying into 'em with each other's fists. Wasn't the worst way to end a night but Shaye rather not get too involved. The bartender and bouncers were already trying to settle things down. When a Rodian made a move at Shaye, she launched a chair at him without a second thought. Floored him quickly enough. Hopefully, it made others think twice too.
