A thick window of glass stood between HK-24 and the outside world as the droid rested, its receptors in sleep mode. Ever since he had been purchased by the good for nothing meat-bag who owned this store, he had been kept here, a restaining bolt in place, stuck in what he had ascertained to be a 'display cabinet'. Days and melted into weeks, weeks into months, months into years, and nobody had let come to purchase him - here at the back of the store on the Wheel, forgotten and alone.

How mundane the Droid thought, once again wishing he could reach up to the restaining bolt and yank it off. If only he wasn't well - restrained.

Another customer walked past and paused at his display case. A fat nemodian, the customer read aloud the label HKs case. "A protocol droid? Doesn't like much - wrong colour for one. Pfffft. No thank you."

Protocol Droid?! HK seethed How dare they! I am an Assassin, not a, not a Protocol Unit, not a 3P0! I'll show them, just you wait for it Nemodian, as soon as I'm out of here. he continued to seeth as the corpulent customer headed off, and ended up purchasing a tired-looking 3P0.

It was going to be another long day.

If he could just get this bolt off, then he'd be free. He could spy the store's weapons shelves from here, all it would take was a quick dash over to the right of his case, swipe up one of those rifles and he'd be out of here - after he had 'taken care' of the owner, and the Nemodian, and whatever else annoyed him, on the way out.

"I'm not throwing down three-thousand credits for an ancient rust-bucket like that," Kara shook her head and stared the storeowner down. After the events of hunting down NetDespot45 she had continued to work for the KnowOnes as a slicer, but as she still had much to learn about slicing her tasks were restricted to the travelling kinds. The Wheel was one of the best places in the galaxy to get access to droids that didn't have severe soft- and hardware restrictions like those of the megacorporations. The KnowOnes had send her here to find them another TC-SC 23006 and the old model droid definitely seemed to fit that bill. Well, maybe.. "Maybe if I can check its software. If its as ancient as its chassis you're trying to sell me scrap, but if its something I can work with" her words trailed off as she produced her datapad and connection cable. That datapad was her baby now. It had all the dataplagues and diagnostics software she needed to properly access the value of the droid..

Kara took a few steps towards the droid (@Nor'baal). "You want to sell it or?" she said with a little bit of an attitude. She was a hard customer and not a nice one, but she hoped that she gave enough hint that she might buy it that it would move the storeowner to action.

"I'm not throwing down three-thousand credits for an ancient rust-bucket like that,"

"Look love, if you want to take this thing off me for less, you be my guest. It's taking up shelf space, and with those new Cybot models out, I just need it shifted." the store's owner, a portly Rodian waddled up and tapped the control panel, opening the glass and waving for the droid to step out.

HK did so with a degree of trepidation. With that cursed restrainer on, he couldn't snap his jailor's neck - much to his displeasure. "I am most eager to be free of this prison, humanoid female." HK stood still, rotating his head to look at the prospective purchaser "If you wish to observe my software you are welcome to. I recommend removing this restraining bolt, to give you better access to my functions."

He turned his head to face the store's owner "I can assure you that it is quite safe to do so."

Alright, so that was much easier than Kara had expected, which didn't bode well. Regardless, Kara plugged into the back of the droid's head and scrolled through his software and the hardware certs. "This stuff is ancient," she sighed, but underneath her heart was pounding. This droid had assassin-protocols, actively suppressed by the retraining bolt. Kara paused, walked around the droid and looked into its cold mechanic eyes. The cable was just long enough for her to still hold her datapad and on it the software became more and more restricted. Properly investigating the HK-droid would take hours, maybe even days with her skill, but one thing was certain: It was incredibly more valuable than the three-thousand credits or less the storeowner wanted for it.

Suddenly afraid she'd miss out, Kara considered various options, outcomes and long-term possibilities and then without telling the storeowner started uploading a dataplague she had taken off of NetDesppot45. The droid would most likely be aware of this, she realized, for he could read what was happening on the screen of her datapad and no doubt register that someone was uploading a class three dataplague into its system. "Don't tell and I'll set you free she whispered to the droid.

HK was growing deeply impatient, he had been out of the display case for 23 seconds, and has not yet murdered someone. If he had been capable of expressing sadness, he would have done so - after hearing the suggestion that he was up for sale for a mere, paltry three thousand credits. How dare they! HK was worth more by far, and he briefly considered informing the storeowner as to his mistake, perhaps he would do so after Kara had done what she wanted.

"Don't tell and I'll set you free

He had detected the data plague, and from what he could tell it was a tracking matrix. Maybe it was more complex, but this was something he would deal with at later date after he had wrung the storekeeper's neck. "Affirmative, humanoid female." he whispered, his tone growing more disappointed as the Rodian owner of the ship moved further away to deal with another customer.

"Do what you need to do love, let me know when you're done." the Rodian said, as HK stared at his retreating form.

HK turned to face Kara, once the shopkeeper was out of sight "I am just a protocol droid, humanoid female, designed for translation services only. Do you have a need for such services - perhaps for a housekeeping unit? Yes?" he intoned.
