History

Fondor has a history of human settlement predating the formation of the Old Republic. These early Fondorians wasted no time industrializing their new home, turning what was once an arid wasteland into sprawling cityscapes that soon rivaled those found on Chandrila and Taris. By the time the Republic was formed as an early trade alliance between disparate systems, Fondor had already made a name for itself as one of the premier planets in the construction of top-line starships.

Sometime before the onset of the Clone Wars, Fondor became a member of the Galactic Republic, acting as a primary supplier of valuable lommite. Just prior to the war, Count Dooku attempted to force Fondor to side with his Confederacy against the Republic, adding its shipyards to the Confederacy’s war machine. When Fondor refused, the droid army invaded and captured the planet, holding it until the war’s end, when it rejoined the newly formed Galactic Empire.

Fondor was one of the Empire’s major manufacturing centers. It was also one of its many centers for research and development, and a number of illicit technologies were invented on Fondor that were later used in the war against the Rebel Alliance. Following the Battle of Endor, Fondor was captured by the New Republic and became a member of the new democracy. Though the First Order briefly occupied Fondor during its conflict with the Resistance, the planet rebelled after the death of the resurgent Darth Sidious, overthrowing the occupying forces and rejoining the New Republic.

In the aftermath of the battle on Exegol, many planetary governments underwent dramatic reformations. On Fondor, the Vaisra family, wealthy immigrants from Obroa-skai, used the political turmoil to oust the previous government, which was suspected of retaining many Imperial loyalists that might be sympathetic to the remnants of the First Order.

Under the Vaisras, Fondor retained its reputation as a shipyard planet—and one of the best in the galaxy—though its government was transformed into a matriarchal monarchy that hoped to stabilize the planet, whose allegiances had changed far too many times over the past few centuries. The Vaisra Dynasty indeed stabilized Fondor and its relationship to the New Republic and the Free Worlds’ Alliance to which it belongs, and its policies increased the planet’s productivity until it rivaled the output of larger shipyard worlds like Kuat.

Government and Culture

Fondor is a matriarchal monarchy, similar to Hapes, which is advised by a council of elected ministers, which includes the planet’s senator to the Galactic Senate. The reigning dynasty is the Vaisra family, which seized control of Fondor after the insurrection to overthrow the First Order over a century ago.

The Queen of Fondor holds absolute authority to pass laws and set policy. She is also in control of the armed forces that guard the planet from outsiders. The queen holds her position for life, or until her councilors deem her mentally unfit to rule; at which point, a new queen is selected from her oldest daughter. However, the queen has some say in her successor, as she can choose a younger daughter to assume the throne if her oldest appears unfit to rule. Sons of the queen are given the title of ‘prince,’ but this title is mostly ceremonial, as sons wield little power in the government.

The Vaisra family is protected by an all-female retinue of warriors, selected from the very best on Fondor, called the ‘Midori.’ These girls are chosen young and personally trained by the queen’s master-at-arms. They serve as her personal guard, her attendants, and it is not uncommon for the queen to form a tight bond with one or two of the girls over her lifetime. The Midori are feared warriors, not to be trifled with by outsiders.

The Vaisra family deeply values the color green. The royal crown and, indeed, much of the royal palace, are encrusted with jade and emerald. The color is also dyed into many of the family’s ceremonial and public clothing. This has led some on Fondor, and in the galactic media, to refer to members of the family as “the Jade Dynasty,” and its matriarch as the “Jade Queen.”

Geography and Climate

In ancient times, Fondor was an arid desert planet similar to Tatooine and Jakku. Human settlement completely reshaped the planet, as its early settlers were quick to industrialize and urbanize their new home. By the time of the Clone Wars, Fondor was an ecumenopolis that rivaled fellow city worlds like Coruscant and Taris. No trace of its former desert identity was left, nor was any natural part of the planet visible.

Under the Jade Dynasty, efforts have been made to beautify Fondor to distinguish it from heavily dilapidated Coruscant and the polluted world of Taris. Artificial parks, with manmade rivers, lakes, and even small mountains, now break apart the cityscape, giving the illusion that Fondor’s vast skyscrapers hide a sprawling natural Eden.

Fondor City, the name of the planetwide city that can be seen from outer space, is divided by class. Most of the wealthy ship company CEOs live near the top of the city, in breathtaking spires that pierce the sky. The Vaisra family’s palace is situated in a sprawling complex near the planet’s equator. Meanwhile, the working class, making a living wage, live about halfway down, where some sunlight still reaches. The poor and lower class live near the bottom of the city where sunlight never reaches. There are rumors that some living there have seen the true floor of Fondor, but none in the upper levels believe these to be true.

Technology and Resources

Fondor is a world rich in natural resources, between rare metals and ores, but due to its status as a dry ecumenopolis, it relies heavily on agricultural exports. Of course, in what the planet lacks, it more than makes up for in terms of technology and labor, being home to one of the most extensive shipyards in the known galaxy. While it is on par technologically to the Core, it employs top of the line architects and designers, supplying much of the Free Worlds Alliance in both civilian crafts and warships.

Intent

To flesh out the homeworld of my senator and in the matter of future roleplays. The inclusion of a ruling matriarchal government and dynasty was also done in hopes of making dealings with the planet more streamlined and unique—since, for the most part, Fondor is just Kuat 2.0, its only difference being purple-colored. Hope that is okay!
