The ability to become a Force spirit (or Force ghost) was a means of achieving immortality obtained by certain Force-users by learning to preserve their consciousness within the Cosmic Force after their deaths. The ability was extremely rare, and considered a mere myth by most. It was unique only to those who used the light side of the Force.

Applications & Limitations

The ability to become a Force spirit was conferred upon those strong in the light side of the Force who died selflessly or with love in their heart. Doing so, combined with a strong enough connection to the Force, allowed one to retain their consciousness after death. Their body would vanish, leaving their clothing behind, and transform into the Cosmic Force.

Afterwards, it was possible for such Force users to separate themselves from the Force and manifest in the physical realm. These manifestations varied. Some were able to project their disembodied voice by communicating with the midichlorians within another being's body. Others manifested as a collection of hovering lights, which could guide the living from place-to-place.

The most famous manifestation of this power, however, was the ability to appear almost corporal as a Force ghost. These ghosts appeared as the Force user did when they died, could speak, interact with their environment, and even use the Force in some circumstances. The process of manifesting in this form was distinctly unpleasant, as it separated the person's consciousness from the Force for a time.

Approved Force Spirits
  1. Jinlo Halan (@Plebometer)
  2. Imani Sage (@Deviant)
  3. Mikko Wexler (@Insalius)
  4. Saeros (@Vosrik)
  5. Wyck (@Malon)

Level Requirements

This ability can be used when a character is dead. Please see the post after this one for instructions on how to turn your character into a Force ghost after they are dead.

If a Force user PC dies, they do have the option of becoming a Force ghost. Below is the process for doing so:
  1. The character in question MUST be aligned with the light side of the Force at the point of their death and they MUST have died in a selfless manner (i.e., sacrificing themselves).
  2. Use the template below to apply to have your character become a Force ghost.
There are also some rules concerning Force ghosts on our site. The following are those rules:
  • Force ghost characters cannot engage in PvP.
  • Force ghost characters cannot grant metagame information to still-living PCs.
  • Only one Force ghost per player at a time. If you wish to have another deceased character become a Force ghost, you will need to give up the previous one. This is to prevent a proliferation on the site.
Once you have turned your PC into a Force ghost, they will be converted into a player-owned NPC, thus losing their ability to accumulate credits. They can then be used as story-devices in the RP or in character plots.

To apply to have your deceased character become a Force ghost, please fill out this template and post in the thread below.

Character Name: Jacob Tagger
Character Profile Link: Jacob Tagger Profile Link
Character Sub-Account Link: @Jacob Tagger
Character Death Link: Said many dangerous things to the Empress.
Reason for becoming a ghost:
"Freedom lies in being bold." Those were Jacob Tagger's last words. He died committed to his cause and without thought for himself. He died to expose the true nature of the Galaxy's Sith overlords to the people. Though he had had plenty of opportunity to become a puppet of the Sith, he did not. Through it all he stuck to his morals. He believed before all else that his job was to hold those in power accountable for their actions and he did, at the cost of his own life.

His death brought the whispers of rebellion from being simply whispers, to being shouted loud and clear over the holonet. His peers laud the power of free spirit and the right to chose one's own fate. Though he has died and faded into the Force; Jacob's spirit still lingers. His work is far from done.

Unfortunately, I have to deny this application on a lore pretext. In Legends, Force spirits didn't really seem to have a logic behind them. Certain characters seemed to be able to manifest as ghosts as it suited the writers. In canon, though, there is a very strict logic. Ghosts were always trained light-side Force users, predominantly Jedi. It wouldn't make much sense for a reporter, in spite of his Force-sensitivity, to come back as one.

I figured, but I had to try anyway!

Character Death Link: Getting Kinda Used To Being Someone You Loved
Reason for becoming a ghost: She died in service to her Alliance and for her husband. She chose to die in self-sacrifice for the Order, the Alliance and its' secrets, and to spare her husband's life. Even with the temptation of the Dark Side coming in the form of her husband to fight him and fall, she resisted, and maintained the calm of a Jedi Knight even to her death. Her deepest loyalty was to the Jedi Code, and to the Order she hoped to build.

Her biggest ideal was the belief in fairness, in diplomacy and a peaceful uniting of the galaxy, along with the healer's code to heal all, regardless of past, race, and creed. That strict code has been applied to all those that wished to learn the Jedi's secret within the Order, and to all her Padawans. She also loved her husband unconditionally, and hoped with her influence she would bring him to the light side of the Force, despite knowing that it was unlikely he ever would.

Yet despite her death, she has a will to voice the will of the Force to those sensitive enough, and willing enough, to hear her. Even beyond her death, her deepest wish is to linger long enough to see the Jedi Order rise to balance the Darkness that has plagued the galaxy... and she will not rest until it does.

I'm going to have to reject this because it doesn't meet the criteria of what it means to sacrifice. The idea of dying because she refused to raise a hand against her husband means her devotion was to love and her own personal and selfish goals. It has nothing to do with her devotion to the Jedi or saving her brethren. An example is her getting in the way to save other Jedi, or her going up alone to face against a powerful Sith to spare others from doing so, etc. these are examples of others that are on the list. Nikka's example is solely based around her personal attachments - attachments that aren't encouraged within Jedi to begin with. This is a tragedy, but unfortunately not a candidate for a spirit.

Ah no, it's all cool! I figured I'd give it a shot anyhow.
