FWA removes PM role, Belasi to focus on GHO

Now former Prime Minister Belasi steps down as PM, and FWA Senate moves to abolish the role of PM altogether. Belasi to "focus on GHO" and "other scientific pursuits."

A few weeks ago, before the Sith attack on Kashyyyk, Belasi called the FWA Senate together to propose a merger with the NR. The vote to begin negotiations passed, albeit only by a small margin and the Senate remained divided even as Belasi met with the NR.

After the attack on Kashyyyk, the opinion of the Senate tipped against Belasi's attempts to centralize the FWA. The native Belascan made the decision to step down as PM, and soon after, the Senate convened and voted to remove the role of Prime Minister from the government altogether. According to the legislation formalizing the change, the FWA "...no longer has the need for a governmental head..." and that "...they will employ a Speaker of the Senate to facilitate discussions in future senates."

One senator stated he "...thought Belasi was well-intended..." but that her "...ambitions were incompatible with FWA ideals...." He added that he and his colleagues hope to see her "...remain in the political sphere."

When asked to comment, former PM Belasi said she would "be focusing on the GHO" and would likely "take a break from the political scene." She did not comment further, but did reiterate that it was her decision to step away from the role of PM.

Though further decentralization is in motion, some FWA planets still remain in favor of centralization open to merging with the NR.

The news scrawled across the holoscreen. Alex set her elbows on the desk. Without warning Prime Minister Belasi was no more. She was alone in her office and so she allowed herself a deep sigh. Another lostally. First, Emil…dead and burned every bridge on his way out. She’d done her fair share of damage there as well. Now Korre.

Promised armies and promised safe havens, gone in an instant. Did you not learn the first time Alex? How many more times would it take? Two certainly seemed enough. If the galaxy would not fight for itself…they would fight for it. She was done relying on others. No more Republic or Free World armies. Alex took a deep breath and activated her com.

“Alayna, start recruitment efforts for enterprising young beings looking to make a difference in the galaxy…combat training required.” The Order had a functioning fleet, it was time they had the ground forces to match.

Cassian breathed a long, low sigh as he sat alone in a dark office, the lights dimmed low. Blue eyes remained fixed on the monitor in front of him, even after the holonet announcement ended and was replaced with a Musky and Husky for Pets commercial. Neither the catchy jingle nor the humorous images of Emryc Thorne in cat ears and Aezzairrfhowrrhudrrl trying to wrangle a wet, hairy dog were enough to brighten his mood tonight.

Cassian hadn't been pleased with the notion of Korre Belasi running for Supreme Chancellor, but for her to step down as Prime Minister? This was never what he'd wanted. This was a step in the wrong direction for the Free Worlds Alliance. Perhaps a fatal misstep, even.

Senator Hawthorne and Senator Starros lie dead and gone in their graves, the former at the hands of an unknown criminal that still walks—or perhaps slithers, if rumors are to be believed—the streets to this day, the latter at the hands of invading Mandalorians. Their deaths weighed heavily upon Cassian's mind, regardless of the fact that he had not been close to either gentlemen. Their deaths begged the question: who was next? Him? Senator Narpoo? Senator Clement?

Senator Aezzairrfhowrrhudrrl was fortunate that he was not the third Free Worlds senator to join the list, though with the loss of his family and the devastation that Kashyyyk continued to endure, he probably did wish that he was counted amongst the dead.

The Independent Systems Consortium had publicly pulled away from the Free Worlds in recent weeks, and nothing would please the majority of New Republic representatives more than to watch the Free Worlds crash and burn from the comfort of their skyrise penthouses in the Core.

Now, perhaps most devastating of all, Korre Belasi had stepped down, and the Free Worlds were left without a leader, the bright-eyed woman with high ideals and lofty goals that gave them all hope for the future. Were they never to catch a break?

"Are you alright, sir?" a small voice broke the silence that blanketed the room, Kiacro's slender frame a silhouette in the doorway.

A shadow crossed over Cassian's face, responding in a tone devoid of any emotion, "Naturally. You worry too much, Kiacro. As always."

"Is there anything I can do for you? Anything I can get you?"

The Zeltron considered the question, eyes vacant as he slumped further into the back of his chair. "Yes, actually. Send Prime Min—Miss Belasi," he amended, "A bouquet of fresh flowers. Inform her that I'd like to take her out to dinner sometime, at her leisure of course. As old friends."

Were they old friends? Cassian couldn't honestly say, but it was the least he could do for the Belascan that had sacrificed so much to serve the Free Worlds Alliance. Her presence would be greatly missed, but the Zeltron would try to find it in himself to be happy for her. The life of a politician was not easy.

"What are you going to do now?"

Cassian smirked, but even in the darkness that concealed so much, the gesture didn't quite meet his eyes. He raised a glass to the Bivall. "Why drink, of course."
