Hello! As I said here, we're preparing to re-introduce the Galactic Congress to this faction. Members of Congress will have OOC and IC roles and responsibilities in the faction beyond just being a general member of Congress. This is being done by having each member of Congress serve on a committee that performs vital tasks in the faction, and by having one person on each committee be the chairperson (and therefore the leader) of that committee. That way, the sub-faction serves an actual purpose and can hopefully help people resist the temptation to RP their characters like petty, squabbling, dicks -- aka, real politicians.

The committees are as follows:

  • Armed Services and Alliance Security Committee
  • Commerce Committee
  • Science and Technology Committee
  • Foreign Relations Committee
  • Labor Committee
In the spoiler text below, you can find a brief description of the committees:

Armed Services and Alliance Security Committee
This committee will serve as military oversight, which will let civilian leaders keep tabs on the military. There are two main roles here that I foresee. One is to have post-battle hearings. We had one last timeline which was more of a witch hunt, but, with a defined role, my hope is that this could be used as a learning process. If the battle is successful, the committee would look at the big picture of why it was successful and lay out what kinds of tactics, strategies, decisions should be repeated in the future. If the battle is not successful, the committee would look at the big picture of why it was not successful. It would not be about blaming people, but rather what decisions worked, which ones didn't, etc. If this just turns into witch hunts then we can always stop doing hearings.

For Alliance security, I think that this is something Damien and the rest of the Council for that matter can outsource a bit. The Battle Master's primary focus is on battle. However, there does need to be defense systems in the Alliance, such as planetary shield generators, planetary defense forces, etc. With the help of the Battle Master, this committee could effectively set those up.

Commerce Committee
This committee would work on a number of things, a lot of which would have to do with independent factions. The goals of this committee would be to generate trade with other factions, fostering businesses, and economics in general. My hope here is to see this committee foster an environment for Alliance and Jedi-aligned indie factions to crop up that would create things that would be of benefit to the Alliance.

Science and Technology Committee
This committee can work on creating new technologies to be used in the war effort, and they too could work with indie factions in doing that (think of it like the public sector contracting out to the private sector). Another idea I had, and this would need to be in conjunction with the staff, would be exploration into unknown territories. This could lead to finding the Vong again, for example. This committee can also do other science-related things.

Foreign Relations Committee
This committee would deal with diplomacy, such as treaties and alliances with other factions. This primarily includes allying the Alliance with war, government, etc-based indie factions, as well as fostering an environment for those kinds of indie factions to rise up (basically making people feel like if they created an indie faction beneficial to the Alliance, they would be considered important to the Alliance and it wouldn't be a meaningless indie faction). They would also seek to create a new alliance with the Imperial Knights.

The Prime Envoy would be a member of this committee.

Labor Committee
This committee would be focused on finding ways of bringing civilian characters into the faction and giving them things to do.

Are you interested? You should be, because this can be awesome with your participation!

If you do want to be part of the faction, please fill out the following form:

  • Planet: state your first, second, and third choice for the planet you want your character to represent. I will do my best to give everyone their first choice if possible.
  • Committee: state your first, second, and third choice for the committee you want your character to serve on. I will do my best to give everyone their first choice if possible.
Simple, right? That's all I need to know! You don't need to create a character beforehand, and in fact that would be pretty difficult given that you don't yet know what planet the character will be representing.

Please note that two positions, Chief of State and Prime Envoy, are already filled. I will be the Chief of State, while Padme is the Prime Envoy. One additional position that will be chosen will be a Congressional representative to the Jedi Council. More info will be put forward on that soon.

I will keep this initial round of sign-ups open until the end of Sunday, October 7th. At that point, I'll choose who will represent what planets and give you your committee assignments.

Please let me know if you have any questions, and I look forward to seeing a lot of sign-ups!

I'd love to be involved.
Ideally the following:
Planet Choice:
  1. Sluis Van
  2. Bespin
  3. Commenor
Committee Choices
  1. Science and Technology
  2. Armed Services and Alliance Security
  3. Commerce

As a side note, I believe Weiss made a suggestion regarding this 'character' created for the Congress being not included in the 6 character slots. Is this applicable, or not? (Just curious - my application stands either way).

Question; what's the status on planets within the new Mando territory? Are they really taken over? What would be the status of the representatives from those systems; captured, killed, etc? How would representatives from these systems function within Congress?
If we're able to pick planets within their territory, then my first choice is Kamino and just bump each one down the next space.

Planet:
1) Cularin (I've done quite a bit of research on the planet as well as the system already)
2) Endor
3) Mimban

Committee:
If Kamino -
Science and Tech
Military and Security
Commerce

If Cularin -
Foreign Relations
Labor
Commerce

If Endor -
Foreign Relations
Science and Tech
Labor

If Mimban -
Commerce
Labor
Science and Tech

As of now, this will count towards your 6.

That's not a question I can answer since it's more high level, dealing with stuff between GABA and Corden, so at this time I myself will say no but I will defer to her for a final call on that.

Its something Corden and I have not discussed. However, the Mandalorians are there illegally, built bases and parked themselves there, so I would imagine there would be resentment from local governments. As far as I am concerned, I have yet to know where they got their resources to build and buy materials. I'll have to discuss it more with Corden though and I'll get back to you asap.

Can you PM me the details of that indie faction when you get a chance? I'll need to know a bit more about it before I can give you a yes/no as a member of Congress.

Planet Choice:
Naboo (Fy's from Naboo, Fy's brother, Sam, is from Naboo, and a family relation would work well with Naboo)
Corellia
Tatooine

Committee Choice:
Armed Forces
Commerce
Science and Tech

All of those can be worked with the business that Sam (RP'd by Cyclops when he was around) included/founded in his backstory and in related RPs and that I've worked with yet not fully defined. I'll use what's been written down so far to outline the business (and, if needed, create an Indie faction for it).

I would love to sign up for this, but I currently have my 6 slots full. Although, if it can be done with an existing character I`ll sign up, otherwise I`ll wait for the details of the representative before the jedi council. So my questions is: can I sign up with an existing force sensitive character?

You can.

Though just for the record, the representative to the Council will be one of the PC members of the Senate, not someone new entirely.

In that case Pax for the Naboo representative, he was born on Naboo so yeah!

I guess he could represent them as the Armed forces delagate, he is a Jedi knight with a level head and combat experience after all

Well, actually, phrasing it as "Jedi Knight" is different than "Force sensitive." If you're a Jedi, I'm inclined to say no right now.

The point of Congress is to give non-Jedi more leadership positions and vital functions in the faction, and one of the reasons for that is to help encourage more non-Jedi PCs in the Alliance military. If the Congress just starts being filled with Jedi, it defeats the purpose. We already have a Prime Envoy.

The only non force sensitive I have is an indie hunter from Corellia, but he wouldn't fit this position at all...so I am out :)

Okay, can I use my indy force sensitive - Lilay Ba (link in sig) she`s kind of a padawan as well, but never had a master, just some training in the temple. As an indy she`s a member of the brotherhood of judicium. I haven`t specified a homeworld for her, yet, so she`s kind of flexible on that matter.

REMINDER: This round of sign-ups ends tonight. Committee assignments and planets are on a first come, first serve basis (as much as possible, at least, pending any conflicting sign ups), so be sure to get sign up before tonight so you have a better chance of getting what you want!
