Once the Speaker laid out the next resolution for the chamber, Galek promptly found his seat and was resolved to keep his ass planted there until a vote was cast. Given that the Consortium funded their own independent, federalize Sector Rangers, the current resolution submitted by the Chancellor was utterly irrelevant to the ISC - and the Induparan couldn’t help but wonder why it was being brought before the wider Senate in the first place.

Only partially interested in the ensuing debate, Galek lifted his datapad and began to scroll across the screen - idly filling the time before the next and final matter was to be deliberated on.

"A growing military force is of course no substitute for a dedicated police force, but the flaws in the current system is definitely a reason to reconsider how things stand. There is indeed need for change with regards to how the Sector Rangers are structured. The Free Worlds and New Republic have very different ideals, and the Sector Rangers being a common force to police the two bodies is no longer a viable option. While theoretically a commendable sign of co-operation, it does not translate in practice. I agree with the Chancellor that it is time for a change." He looked towards the Chancellor and gave him a nod before continuing.

"As the Independent Systems and the Corporate Sector have their own respective forces, I guess all that this proposal can accomplish is to formally split the shared jurisdiction of the Sector Rangers and allow both bodies to set up their own forces to carry on the legacy of the Sector Rangers." He paused for a moment and gave the representative from Ploo II the slightest of looks. "If the Free Worlds opt to completely abolish the Sector Rangers then that is their prerogative, but that is a decision for both bodies to come to on its own. So I propose a modification to Senator Aezzairrfhowrrhudrrl's proposal. For the next year the Sector Rangers continue operating as they stand, while begining a parallel effort to distribute their assets and personnel between the New Republic and Free Worlds to form the basis of their own independent Ranger Corps."

Arianna had been partially listening to the new agenda item though her attention was split between multi-tasking on the Senators' conversations, returning several email messages, as well as the direct communication through her earpiece comlink from her service droids and personal secretaries. The young woman was a fresh Senator and as with anything in life, she was still experiencing the growing pains of molding into the new opportunity. Responsibilities were far greater at this scale, both at home on Iego as well as her intergalactic duties as a representative of the Senate.

Shifting her eyes towards the Senator of Coruscant, Arianna nodded lightly and waited for him to finish speaking before she standing to her full height. Addressing the floor, her soft voice rang out, carried artificially by aid of the microphone and speakers through the auditorium.

"I agree with the proposal of Senators Aezzairrfhowrrhudrrl's and Drast. Complete disbandment of the Sector Rangers is neither within Iego's interest nor the Alliance. We rely on their service to maintain safety and security within our worlds. However, as they are currently funded and operated by two separate bodies of government, I also believe it would be best for them to remain as such for the next calendar year while we begin preparations of splitting the service so that both New Republic and Free Worlds Alliance may develop their own Independent ranger corps program."

"Asssss my contemporariessssss have ssssstated prior, thisssss should be dealt with between the New Republic and the Alliance. I believe no one elssssse really hasssss a dog in thisssss fight. Half the chamber isssss not even involved in thissss, ssssso I say we have thisss as a matter between only two of usssss and not dragging this ssssssesssssssssion out, unlesssssssss we should wheel out holossssscreensssssss and play an old educational tape for thossssse ssssssenatorsssss not involved like the dayssssss in sssssschool where the educator did not have a lessssssson prepared." Rrodossk leaned forward to speak into his mic during his small speech, his voice growling softly as he felt this was a useless resolution. Whoever submitted this should be taken out back and shot, at least that was his opinion.

Rrodossk went back to typing on his terminal, sending a message back to Aezzairrfhowrrhudrrl that read: 'Below I have a location near by where I shall be spending my evening. It is a private club, with a strict 'No Media" policy. None shall even realize you are there, join me and you shall be welcomed with a gift. As is custom.' He send the message and erased the log from his terminal, before leaning back to speak with one of his guards about anything else besides the session.

The Speaker

“Very well,” The voice of the Speaker cut clear through the chamber to silence any murmured discussion, preceded only by the repetitive clang of the Rodian’s staff striking against the floor of her platform. “As this is a matter beyond the jurisdiction of the Galactic Senate - to be taken up between the Free Worlds Alliance and New Republic respectively.. the Senate moves to dismiss Chancellor Xerxes’ motion.”

A brief pause followed as the Speaker began tapping away at a datapad with her suction cup fingers (Pop, pop, pop..) to bring up the final item on the agenda.

“As no additional Resolution has been submitted to the Office of the Speaker, we may now move to deliberate on our last order of business: The formal legalization of Podracing.” The Rodian blinked a few times - clearly surprised to find a resolution that wasn’t submitted by the Supreme Chancellor - before she gestured a hand towards Dusty. As per usual, a swarm of camera droids flicked over to the Senator from Ploo II at her indication.

“To present this resolution, Senator Daytonus, you now have the floor.”

"Please, please, Senator Daytonus was my father." Dusty joked as he was introduced by the Speaker, standing up a bit straighter now that all the camera droids were on him. If any being unfamiliar with Dusty was expecting your standard politician - boring, measured, upstanding - they would be in for a rude awakening as Dusty let his "man of the people" vibe envelop him, channeling his natural charisma.

"Well, actually, that's not strictly true. My father was actually known as Inmate Number 12225. What was his crime, you may ask? Well, he killed a man in a bar fight. But, truth be told, that hadn't been the first bloke he killed. Hell, growing up, I took my fair share of licks from the old man so I knew what he was capable of. Sometimes, the only relief for me, was hiding under my bedcovers, nursing my bruises, and watching the Podraces on my cracked portable holoprojector."

"All this to say, my old man deserved prison. But you know who doesn't? Those brave Podracers who risk life and limb out there to bring joy to a little Glymphid's face when his world seems at his darkest. My constitutents know me from my days on the swoop track and, let me tell you, there was an unspoken code amongst us racers. And that understanding was that every being who stepped on that track was risking life and limb. And you know what? We were all for it! Heck, I still am."

"So why are we punishing those with a racing spirit? With a winning spirit? Audiences love it, the racers love, the whole galaxy has loved it at one point or another. And, frankly, I'm tired of bureaucratic stuffed shirts who probably wouldn't be able to stomach a bantha race telling good, hard-working citizens that their favorite pasttime is wrong! And that's why I'm here today to formally ask all system governments to legalize Podracing for the good of the galaxy. And, should this motion pass, may I offer up Ploo II as the first site of the First Annual Podracing Galactic Grand Prix?"
Dusty concluded his speech by making his Senate pod perform a little divot on his way back, as if he were paying homage to the great racers of the past and present.

The Speaker

As was the standard protocol while Resolutions were being presented, the rest of the Senate chamber fell silent - individual mic’s being automatically disabled to prevent any out-of-order interruptions while the Senator of Ploo II laid out his proposal for those assembled. Of course, the moment that he did, the Speaker couldn’t help but scrunch up her face ever-so-slightly.

Without rising up from her seat, the Speaker leaned over in her seat - whispering into the ear of an aide sitting close by. There was a brief back-and-forth exchange between the two, largely to confirm what she already knew, before a datapad was presented to the Rodian. The holo-screen was pinned on a particular resolution that had been previously passed through only a few sessions prior. With a heavy sigh, the Speaker stepped up to the podium.

As a native of Rodia and the Outer Rim, the woman herself could easily sympathize with the Glymphids story - and she related to it in more ways than one. It was something that she had no doubt many of hailing from the Outer Rim could. Even still, none of that changed the responsibility she was obligated to fulfill as Speaker. “My apologies, Senator,” She began, her tone even and not the least bit harsh, “However, as per the resolutions passed by this very congregation, the Galactic Senate has no jurisdiction to impose sweeping directives - directives to objectively ban or legalize any one thing - upon its Member-governments.”

She paused for just a moment, “As a result, I have no choice but to dismiss this motion from the agenda.” The Rodian cast her glance across those assembled. “If there are no objections, the Senate has officially concluded its business.

"The session is hereby adjourned.”

The Speaker slammed the butt of her staff against the floor of her Senate pod, followed by a low ring of the bell above them. Within moments, the dimmed lights of the chamber brightened once more - dozens of representatives beginning to rise from their pods to depart.

Drumming his fingers against the armrest of his seat, Galek couldn’t help but let out a long, drawn out sigh. If only for technical reasons, the Induparan knew that Daytonus’ resolution wasn’t likely to receive a vote before it was dismissed. Regardless, it was a resolution that - in spirit - Galek was rather inclined to agree with. After all, podracing had been a staple of the Outer Rim for centuries at this point - and was legal on almost every planet within the Consortium because of it.

The Induparan couldn’t help but ponder the last bit of Daytonus’ proposal privately - the concept of a Galactic Grand Prix floating around within his mind. Regardless of the status of the resolution in the Senate, perhaps there was an opportunity to make that bit a reality.

Just as he rose from his seat, Galek glanced over to his chief aide, “Nadira?”

“Yes, sir?”

“Please contact the office of Senator Daytonus. I have a proposal I believe he may be interested in,” With that, Galek turned on a heel and began to make his way out of the Senate chamber - flanked by the small retinue that followed him.
