The time had once again come for the Galactic Senate to convene - and it grew dozens of representatives from across the galaxy to Coronet City. For the first time since its inception, Corellia had been chosen as the venue to host the session, and it likely couldn’t have fallen on a nicer day in the capital - with not a cloud in the sky and remarkable mild temperatures for the summers.

The Senate Chambers of Corellia were undeniably beautiful to behold - crafted from white stone and decorated at every corner with a variety of murals that eluded to the planets rich history. The room took the shape of a half circle - with floating, detachable pods that lined the curvature of the wall, sloping downward and towards the middle of the room. There were three additional pods raised several feet above the others - reserved for Galactic leaders from each respective faction - as well as the Speaker’s podium jutting forth from the opposing wall. Thin, arched windows of blue glass ran up the walls of the chamber that - along with a skylight overhead - allowing for an abundance of sunlight to stream in, bathing the entire chamber in soft azure hues.

As per usual, security has been ramped up in the preceding days - shifting onto high-alert as Galactic leaders and representatives from all three governments arrived on Corellia. While the public had been kept at a respectable distance, members of the press already lined the promenade leading up to the chamber - close enough to ask questions of those arriving while still separated by a velvet rope. Senate Commandos were stationed at all entrances and at various points inside the chamber - conducting routine health-checks and weapon-scans as members filtered in.

The Speaker for this session - a middle-aged Rodian woman - had already passed through security and ascended to her designated place in the chamber, proceeding to take a seat while the others arrived. The woman tapped her finger to a datapad, idly scrolling through items on the current agenda.

It went without saying that Galek was exceptionally pleased with the choice of Corellia for the latest Galactic Senate session. For months, the Induparan had been stretched thin with a busy schedule - his weeks dominated by endless work-related travel throughout Consortium space. As a result, the fact that this month's session didn’t require him to travel half-way across the Galaxy meant that Galek would neatly fit it in with upcoming conferences and meetings taking place on the planet.

The knowledge that his colleagues in the New Republic were likely to be miffed by the choice of Corellia - who oh-so-recently left for the ISC - additional amused the Induparan to no end.

Just as his speeder came to a halt, Galek stepped out into the Senate plaza and was accompanied by his chief aide. As per usual, the Induparan prince was dressed in the traditional style of his homeworld - sporting a gold Sherwani with a crimson dupatta trimmed with embroidery that draped across his shoulder. His outfit was further accessorized with a chrono and variety of rings that adorned his fingers, while his black hair was styled meticulously into place.

Promptly ignoring any questions from the media, Galek strolled past the reporters and through the entrance of the Senate building - passing through the routine health and weapons scans that were required. Once inside, the Induparan allowed his hazel gaze to wander the room - giving a polite nod to colleagues who had already arrived before moving to find his own seat.

Sinking into the plush cushions of his pod, Galek poured himself something to drink and crossed one ankle over his knee - relaxing for the few minutes that had before the start of session. A datapad was passed from his aide - a list of agenda items already pulled up onto the screen. The Induparan couldn’t help but squint ever-so-slightly, regarding each item curiously for a long moment.

From the looks of it, things were bound to get interesting.

If Vetra had one word to say about her job as Blackwell Tech's liaison in the Galactic Senate it would be: Boring. Ever since she was appointed to the post, there hasn't been a session. Aren't they supposed to be every so often? Such a lack of order.

Vetra would be situated in her pod, accompanied with an aide and a Blackwell-issued protocal droid. She is wearing her corporate uniform, proudly representing the galaxy's premier technology megacorporation, which has been getting even more profit in recent times.

The Blackwell Liaison looked over the agenda items. Some interesting ones. The crumbling Free Worlds Alliance is poised to have it's numbers to seats lowered, a reflection of how downhill the fragile 'alliance' has gone. An agenda item to let the Sith envoys into the senate? That's intriguing. The last one though the one about the Sector Rangers doesn't interest Vetra. That doesn't affect the Corporate Sector or Blackwell at all.

Vetra wonders if there would be any last minute proposals brought forward, there are only three. Vetra nor Blackwell has anything to bring up. Business is booming, credits are flowing. Blackwell is all good.

Some politicians' careers would've been over after the events of Kashyyyk, but not Aezzairrfhowrrhudrrl's. The planet had slowly begun to rebuild over the past few years, and Aezzairrfhowrrhudrrl managed to secure reelection through his tireless efforts to help his people. He'd stepped largely out of the galactic eye, and had helped mobilize the assets of the FWA and the GHO in order to assist his shattered planet and people. The aged Wookiee, unfortunately, couldn't evade the galactic political scene indefinitely, and so found himself on Corellia. There were matters of great concern to discuss here, and the stakes for the Free World's Alliance and the galaxy were incredibly high.

Kashyyyk would not go quietly.

And neither would Aezzairrfhowrrhudrrl.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Aezzairrfhowrrhudrrl had hoped to avoid conversation en route to his senate pod, but found himself within conversation range with Galek Ordos of the ISC. The Wookiee had little in the way of niceties to say to the Governor, but a recent news article had caught Aezzairrfhowrrhudrrl's eye. "Governor Ordos" he rumbled, trusting T-8R to translate. "I was shocked to see the Sith's aggressive behavior towards the ISCRA." Hypocritical words, to some, but Aezzairrfhowrrhudrrl had merely been sarcastic when the ISCRA arrived, whereas the Sith had acted arrogantly; as if gauging the ISC's reaction. In truth, the Wookiee was not shocked, although he projected polite concern. He'd long spoken of the Sith's appetite for conflict. Perhaps the ISC was now keeping a list of the Sith Empire's slights, as well. "Surely this new Empress is not unwise enough to provoke the might of the ISC?"
Sibyl arrived jubilant in Corellia. Was thanks to her that this world had abandoned the decaying Republic and joined the ISC. Of course, she had some help from other politicians, but they didn't matter. It was her words that captivated the Corellian representatives. She showed them how they would better not be part of the old Core based government and its dumb Chancellors.
"I don't see you smiling in one of these meetings after a long time." Dongwa commented while the two of them walked through the corridors of the Corellian senate building. The Brentaalan smiled at her droid. "Really? I think that it's because we are in a Core World that I helped snatch to the ISC. I need to say, this was one of my best works." Sibyl never stopped boasting about what she did, not even to her droid. He already heard it a thousand times.
While they walked toward the pod reserved to Brentaal, Sibyl saw that Aezz was talking with Galek. She was a bit disappointed to know that the Wookie didn’t burn with his homeworld. The smell of wet rug would remain spreading in the Senate. It was a shame. At least she would have some fun watching his furious reaction to what the new Chancellor of the New Republic proposed. The Governor needed to agree that some of it was really unnerving. The man was more crazy than Emil.
Hello, my friends. It’s good to see you two after so much time.” Sibyl smiled falsely at the two. While Galek’s presence here wasn’t despicable, even if the constant sound of the rings on his fingers hitting each other were annoying, the Brentaalan woman thought that Aezz was unbearable. Even his clothes were a horror to look at. He seemed to be dressed in rags! Why couldn't the Wookie wear a nice outfit like the one that she was wearing?
Work, constant work had kept the Chancellor away from the public eye. His desk was full of electronic pad’s as tall as a Trandosian which covered aspects from Trade to Star Destroyers. But no matter how busy the man was, a meeting of the Galactic Senate was something he could not miss, being one of the earliest to confirm his attendance. His staff had submitted a number of resolutions to the Senate Speaker, each a key aspect of Alexander’s personal plan for the future of the Galaxy.
As he stepped out of the Chancellor’s personal Shuttle, he was immediately surrounded by security. Both to keep him safe from assisnation but also to keep the reporters and public crowds at a distance so the Hynestian could easily make his way into the Coreillian senatorial chamber. The Chancellor's suit had a small pin in the Symbol of the Republic over his heart. Not having the time to really entertain conversation with members of the ISC or FWA, the Chancellor informed his detail that he wished to head directly to his personal platform.
Pulling on the shirt cuffs to straighten his suit he placed himself in the velvet seat. A small holo-pad was passed to him confirming the order of the resolutions due to be discussed this fine summers day.
It had been some time since the Galactic Senate had convened. The collapse of the Free Worlds, the attacks from the Sith and a host of other reasons put the congregation on the backburner. Emryc had been focused entirely on refining processes across ISC and the government was finally running seamlessly after the surge of Core planets. The half Sephi withdrew a bit more each day from his ties to the Sith in favor of his role as President which allowed him the luxury of far more power and wealth.
The President strode in after the others arrived, dressed in a formal suit. His silver gaze was as piercing as ever, surveying the room. His hair was styled and he wore a chrono on his wrist, his signature cologne always permeating wherever he walked. He gave a curt nod to all those present before he walked over towards the galactic leaders sections, taking the pod next to the Chancellor.
“I see you aim to make today’s session spicy,” Emryc said with a faint smile as he approached Xerxes. Truth be told, he had respect for the other man and his bold strategies. So far they had served him well and he managed not to get ousted by his mewling constituents. There was no space for the third Galactic leader that normally flanked them, the position of Prime Minister having been abolished.
A ding on his comlink caught his attention, the only one that was allowed to notify him. He glanced down at the message from his fiancee, eliciting a rare smile from the half Sephi before he pocketed the device again. His focus returned to the Chancellor.
The Trandoshian and his retinue began to approach their pod as Wooson brushed up against Rrodossk's leg. The female was always the more needy of the two vornskr, but Booson had his ways of showing affection too. Joudossk had a hand on each of their leashes, the elder son being one of the best Trandoshans with animals Rrodossk has ever seen. The iguana resting around his neck and on his shoulder did not need a handler, the elder Trandoshan knew that, and always was useful as both an accessory or as a sign of wealth. He reached one claw from his left hand and softly rubbed its small head, careful not to harm the smaller reptile.
He was dressed in a thick, yet soft, silk tunic, the gold pattern on the cherry red fabric softly glittering in the lighting of the halls. The heavy Wookie pelt cloak was draped over his shoulders, the black fur reaching from his massive shoulders all the way down to draping behind his clawed feet. Rrodossk made sure each clack of his footsteps was audible to all, his stride long and powerful. He didn't even need to put on an act to look powerful, he was already at least a head taller than his body guards and was wider than them too.
Along the way he picked up a massive meat leg from a vendor, the largest and juiciest one he could find, and what he was told was called an "energy drink". He never had much experience with them, but he decided to pick one in pastel colors with the face of Emyrc Throne on it. He occasionally gave a piece of the leg to the reptile on his shoulder, after a while of walking he finally sat down in his pod. His retinue followed him, the RA-7 he owned stationed to his right and a pace behind the senator himself. He did not even glance at the opposite side of the chamber to Aezzairrfhowrrhudrrl, as he made sure to inform the other Trandoshans to do. He instead made sure his Wookie pelt was out in the open for all to see.
Carrick had been busy with his duties overlooking the military of the ISC and he had done his best to keep up to date on the current political landscape, even if he didn't get himself utterly entangled in it like some others did. Instead he used it to distract himself from the military matters - before invariably deciding that enemies trying to blast him apart were far nicer than politics. A less politically inclined person might have preferred the forthrightness of being openly attacked but Carrick hadn't spent the last two decades making his path to politics to be so weak-minded.
He lived for the thrill of the backstab and the double-speak.
Striding into the halls of the chosen venue, Carrick had chosen to wear a more classic combination. A suit with an overcoat and gloves was something that never went out of style and it allowed him to almost flutter like he was wearing a cape. But senators and governors hadn't worn capes since the days of the Old Republic and he wasn't about to start wearing last century's fashion just because he enjoyed the sensation of turning corners in a swirl of cloth.
"Governor Lassiter."
he greeted the woman bluntly as he moved past her, nodding in greeting as he past on his way to his seat, noting the presences of both Galek and President Thorne with a degree of warmth to his political smile even as he took his place close to Sibyl, "Feels like an age since we were last assembled."
Perhaps moreso for himself.
Looking out over the Senate floor, Carrick caught sight of Rrodossk and his literal Wookiee pelt, thrown over him in a way that was clearly trying to be classy. It was distasteful as hell and Carrick felt his lip curl up despite himself.
"... I see a dress code has not been agreed upon since the last session. It seems that some of this assembly believe it prudent to garb themselves in the desecrated remains of other sentient beings."
He glared at the Trandoshan across the way even as he spoke to the other members of the ISC delegation, "Disgusting."
The reptile leaned forward in his seat, his massive cloaked frame blocking line of sight of his comrades behind him. He logged in on the terminal in front of him and entered the encrypted channels. His clawed hand brushed over the keypad surprisingly adeptly, one of the many secret skills the Trandoshan picked up through his many years of politicking. Rrodossk knew he would be absolutely eaten alive if others of his species saw this, but if he was going to do the other move his government told him to do in good conscience he had to. So... off went the message to the senator's personal pod in a "Your Eyes Only, Burn After Reading" format.
It read as follows: "Dear Aezzairrfhowrrhudrrl, you must know the great lengths I have done this to hide from my people. Yet, as a species, we are secretly despising the Sith for what they had done to your planet and your people. None will ever admit it, as their self pride is strong. I wish for you to note when we first hunted eachother, there is a sense of pride in our acts. Each death on both sides flexed our muscle, it was a competition of honor. A mass destruction like that is unhonorable and absolutely disgusting. I have, anonymously, set up a fund for the reconstruction efforts and placed one hundred thousand credits in there personally. It currently sits at a quarter of a million, it is not a lot but it is the best I could do. Use this money well... after this session I will need to speak with you privately.
The message concluded not with a name, but pod number. Rrodossk waited a moment before sending, taking a deep breath before hitting the enter key.
Dusty Daytonus walked into the Senate chambers in as dignified a manner as one could expect, given how completely and utterly hungover he was. He had taken a couple of deathsticks a few minutes ago to pep him up for today's session but those hadn't seemed to have kicked in yet. That, or he had just built up quite a tolerance over the years of indulgence that he'd enjoyed as Governor of Ploo II.
Honestly, he had considered skipping this session altogether. As a politician, Dusty was far more appreciative of the perks that came with the office like bribes, getting out of speeding tickets, women, parties, and the like. What he was not fond of was boring meetings filled with boring politicians, preferring to delegate those to more interested parties. However, by the looks of things, today was not going to be filled with boring politicians at all, as a Trandoshan came waltzing in wearing a full-blown Wookiee pelt...in front of a Wookiee representative no less!
An adrenaline junkie himself, even Dusty admired the balls on the lizardman and sat back in his Senate pod to observe what would happen as a result.
While Galek had tactfully managed to avoid stopping for the media or anyone else en route to the Senate Chamber, the Induparan reluctantly came to a slow halt upon spotting Aezzairrfhowrrhudrrl - watching for a moment as the Wookiee Senator began to lumber his way over to talk. Since that entire incident on Kashyyyk, Galek hadn’t spoken with the man whatsoever - and he would’ve been lying if he claimed that some bitterness regarding ISCRA’s treatment didn’t linger.
Nevertheless, Galek wore that characteristic, dignified smile - keeping his hands neatly tucked against the small of his back as he regarded the Senator of Kashyyyk, “Senator Aezzairrfhowrrhudrrl,” He began, voice tinged in that sing-song accent. “As was I,” He said with a small sigh, “I am routinely shocked by the ways that ISCRA is received by some, despite our best intentions.” He kept his hazel eyes on Aezz just then, unflinching as he made that not-so-subtle jap.
“Still,” He waved his hand a bit, “I highly doubt that this.. Diplomatic blunder, as it were, is the beginning of any pattern. As you say, a larger conflict would be markedly unwise and serves the interests of neither party.” While Galek couldn’t deny having been furious in the wake of the incident, any large-scale with the Empire wasn’t in the interest of the Consortium - and the Induparan certainly wasn’t going to give the reaction the Senator of Kashyyyk attempted to bait out of him.
His attention promptly turned to Sibyl after that, greeting the Brentaalan representative with a small dip of his head. “Governor Lassiter, how lovely to see you again. As ever, you look radiant this evening.” He smiled in her direction before glancing back to his Senate pod. “If you’ll both excuse me,” The prince dipped his head once more. “I will see you both on the floor.” With that, Galek finally turned and climbed into his Senate pod - glancing over the agenda in the minutes leading up to the start of the session. It wasn’t until Carrick spoke that the Induparan’s gaze lifted, settling upon the Trandoshan Senator, long enough to take note of his attire and for a scowl to etch itself into his expression.
“Revolting.” He hissed under his breath, brows furrowing for a moment before he looked elsewhere. Intent upon granting such barbaric trash not a moment more of his attention.
The Speaker
A few additional minutes were granted for representatives to finish arriving and settle into their respective seats. Once the chamber had filled to capacity, a low chime echoed through the Senate chamber - followed by the sight of the Speaker’s platform detaching from its fixed position on the wall - floating into the center of the room. The Rodian woman placed the datapad aside, rising up from her seat to address the assembly.
With a simple wave of her hand, the Speaker summoned forth a series of spherical camera droids that began to drift around the chamber - beginning the live-feed of the session that fed directly to billions on the HoloNet. For the moment, one droid remained fixed specifically on her.
“Distinguished colleagues,” The Rodian woman began, her voice booming through the chamber. “All resolutions on the agenda have been transmitted to your respective pods for review. Resolutions shall be presented, in the order in which they were received, by a member of the sponsoring government. Additional proposals before the Senate may only be brought to the floor for deliberation once the standing agenda has been resolved.”
The Speaker paused. While she kept one hand on the podium in front of her, the woman grasped the Aurodium staff of the Senate in her left. With a lift of her arm, she slammed the butt of the staff against the ground three times in succession - the sound echoing through the hall.
“With that, I formally call the Galactic Senate to session. As our first order of business: The New Republic proposes the re-distribution of Free World Alliance votes to the New Republic and ISC.” She extended her hand in the direction of the Chancellor, while one of the camera droids shifted to fix onto the man.
“To present this resolution, Chancellor Alexander Xerxes, you now have the floor.”
Aezzairrfhowrrhudrrl's eyes would not betray his disgust with the ISC Governor (@Altaris ). All too willing to tally the perceived slights of the FWA and hold the entire loose trade alliance accountable for the actions of a few, the ISC seemed content to brush aside the Sith Empire's aggressive actions as a diplomatic blunder. "I wish I shared your optimism. Unfortunately, the Sith Empire has a poor track record when dealing with refugees and innocents" the Wookiee rumbled, shaking his head. "Let us hope this is, as you say, merely a mistake." The aged Senator paused, his gaze coming to rest on some point behind Galek's head. "I would not wish this war upon anyone" he said quietly.
His train of thought was derailed by a giant leaf arriving- no, that was the Governor of Brentaal (@LouJoVi ). It seemed that Galek's talent for deceiving himself extended to others' fashion choices, as well. Taking advantage of Galek's exit so as not to be stuck alone with Sybil, Aezzairrfhowrrhudrrl nodded politely to each with a quiet, "Governor", before making his way towards his pod.
Upon arriving, the Wookiee was surprised to find a private message, along with an invitation for a meeting following the session. It seemed that the galaxy had one more surprise in store for him; a generous donation, and the offer of a meeting with the newly appointed Senator from Trandosha (@Issachar), who was wearing a Wookiee pelt as a cape.
Aezzairrfhowrrhudrrl thought for a moment, weighing the risks of such a meeting. The two planets were joined by proximity and an antagonistic history, with Trandoshans regularly hunting Wookiees for sport and the Wookiees launching counter raids to rescue any survivors. Such history was hardly the foundation for a fruitful alliance, but in a broad stroke of irony the donation was among the largest ones Kashyyyk had received following the planet's bombarding, with more money being funneled to the ISCRA than to the beleaguered Wookiees in the aftermath. Furthermore, the aged Wookiee was curious to see what all the new Senator had to say.
[You have Kashyyyk's thanks for this generous and unexpected donation] Aezzairrfhowrrhudrrl typed back, glancing up to see if Senator Cassian Graves (@llamallove) was present as the speaker called the meeting to order and introduced the Chancellor of the New Republic, who sponsored three earthshattering bills on the agenda. The FWA would need as many voices and votes as possible for this session. [Additionally, I am open to speaking with you following this session, on the condition that your cape is not present when we meet.] It would not do for the Senator of Kashyyyk to be photographed next to someone wearing a Wookiee pelt.
The Trandoshan grinned slightly. It was an ugly, toothy grin, his aging fangs gently peaking through the flesh of his scaled lips. The senator knew how to deal with a situation like this, yet he realized if this was a worry he made sure to send an image. He always knew how to avoid the camera crews or paparazzi, so before answering he reviewed technical drawings of the building they were in. He kept tracing out a few paths with his claws, figuring out several rooms that would be a good isolated meeting spot. After a while, he found a path. A few meeting rooms had interconnected pathways between them, doors opening between them when not in use. He made sure to color code the path, green being the one Rrodossk would use and brown being the one Aezzairrfhowrrhudrrl would use. He then brought the image into the next message as his large eyes blinked effortlessly.
"If you follow this plan," the message read, "the ability for the media to take a picture they can release is absolute zero. There is a room between us, these rooms from what I've read are confidential in a 'No Cameras' zone. I will approach from the far room and enter, just myself while my retinue sits in the room and discusses things, and I will make sure to bring a data pad to play a pre-recorded phone call between two Wookies. The cloak may stay behind if you are not comfortable with it, because this is of the utmost important. If we wish the FWA to survive, we need to meet."
Alexander’s quiet peace was politely disturbed by the arrival of Emryc Thorne, the Consortium President gruff and deep voice breaking the silence around the Supreme Chancellor. “I haven’t gotten this far with weak statements, I see no reason to change. Plus I think it is for the best.” He replied with a smirk before turning back to his datapad.
It wasn’t long before the majority had gathered and the procession began. The Speaker took to the centre stage welcoming them all before turning her and the entire room's attention towards the Supreme Chancellor. Alexander took a breath, holding the room in silence for a moment before standing from his velvet seat and positioning himself towards the front of the pod, just before the microphone.
“My Honourable Colleagues of the Galactic Senate, it is my privilege to stand here before you as the Supreme Chancellor of the New Republic with my Honourable Colleague the President of the Consortium to my right. However as you all know and can see, the Free World Alliance no longer deem it necessary within their government to have a singular head of state. Now I have no quorum on how the Alliance wishes to handle their internal state of affairs, that is their right.
However the removal of their head of state has fallen in line with a dramatic reduction in Political Power across the galaxy. When this great chamber was originally created, ourselves along with the Consortium and Alliance, we chose to create a system of equal representation which fell in line with the Political Power and Representation each Government had throughout the Galaxy.
Since that time however as I stated the Free World Alliance has unfortunately lost its place as an Equal to the New Republic and Independent Systems Consortium in Galaxy. As such, we do not feel it is a fair distribution of Galactic Democracy to have the Free World Alliance hold the same voting power as ours and President Thorne’s Governments.
As such, I propose that twenty of the Free World’s Seats are redistributed among the New Republic and Independent Consortium evenly.”
Alexander finished and took his seat, awaiting the rabble to discuss away.
Well, this was a real pickle and no mistake about it. On the one hand, Dusty had never been much fond of his home planet being a part of the FWA. As someone with a contempt for being told what to do, he appreciated their loose rules and regulations but it did tend to hamper his goal of conquering Ploo IV, as they were also a part of the FWA. Those damn Fluggrians had been at war with the Glymphids for longer than Dusty could remember and the former swoop racer would earn his place in history if he could finally put them down once and for all. But if he invaded now, there was a good chance the other members of the FWA would retaliate against him.
So what to do?
He was still working out whether he wanted to leave the Free Worlds Alliance himself but, while his home of Ploo II was a part of it, it might be best to keep as much power within the FWA as possible.
Ah what the hell? This Xerxes fella looked like a nerd anyways. And as Ploo II's voice during this session, it was up to to Dusty to make sure nerds would never rule the Glymphids.
"Point of order or whatever. Seems to me that this is less about getting more democratic and more about kicking the FWA while they're down. So how about instead of redistributing twenty seats to the ISC and Republic, we redistribute twenty of my feet up your ass?"The Glymphid governor offered earnestly.
"Respectfully." he added. He had to be diplomatic after all.
While the mammalian spoke about stripping power from the FWA, the icy reptilian blood in Rrodossk's veins boiled. He clenched his teeth and his lips curled, slamming his fist into the console infront of him as he stood. This was not just an insult to the FWA, it was a insult to Dosh and her people. His pupils were small dots in the orange oceans of his eyes, and if one would look close enough they could potentially see the fire of range. Only if he was a younger man, and still was as bold as he was then, Xerxes would have been either blown away or torn apart where he stood for the insult. But now, he had to calm himself. He was a politician and he had to speak for his people. After he took a breath, he slowly stood and shook his head.
"Point of Order. Thissss issss an outrage. I agree with the resssspected sssssenator if Plo II, thissss is more about getting more power and kicking usssss while we are in a difficult, yet correctable, posssssition than being more democratic. We will not be sssssilenced, you will hear usssss assss equals. If you gag our voicessss, we will break free and prove that we musssst be heard. If thissss notion getssss moved through this sssessssssssion and passssses, it will prove democracy is dead and tyrany reignsssss on both sssssidessss of thissss conflict." His voice was hoarse, airy, and rough, like any other trandoshan, yet Rrodossk had already had a regal tone to his voice. A barley contained rage was clear in his voice, like an animal wanting to be let loose. Yet it seemed unlike many of his species the senator can contain his rage. The Trandoshan would stand long after he was done, looking around the collected senate and waiting for a rebuttal.
Aezzairrfhowrrhudrrl fumed as the New Republic's Supreme Chancellor made his pitch; the first step, do doubt, in consolidating his power amidst the galactic senate. Of course the Wookiee stood against the measure, but how many would stand with him? A few spoke quickly, but their voices were ones he expected to decry the measure.
"This proposal is most concerning" Aezzairrfhowrrhudrrl said, directing his gaze towards the Supreme Chancellor's box. "Not only is it rife with conflicts of interest" - the 60 voting members of the ISC and NR would have little reason to vote against the measure, as it gave them more voting power, leaving only Blackwell's 10 votes who could be even remotely considered independent on this matter- "the very consideration of such a proposal sets a dangerous precedent. No singular government represented here possesses enough votes to defeat a similar measure should it be directed at them." The Wookiee let his gaze wander over towards where the Blackwell and ISC representatives were sitting; couldn't they see the danger of such proposals? "Furthermore" the Wookiee said, savoring each syllable, "the reality also fails to support Chancellor Xeres' assessment that the Free World's Alliance has 'lost its place as an equal' in the galaxy. According to the most recent Atlas*, the New Republic claims 48 member planets, while the FWA and ISC each count more than 50 among their ranks. These are hardly numbers that indicate that the FWA is not worthy of the same representation the ISC and NR enjoy." The New Republic's numbers would be significantly higher, he knew, had many not defected to the ISC.
"I should also remind the assembly that Prime Minister Belosi's decision to step down was a personal one, and that the fact that no Prime Minister stands before you today is because we are looking into other forms of leadership that better reflect our decentralized nature." Korre Belosi- and the FWA as a whole- had been, in Aezzairrfhowrrhudrrl's opinion, unfairly blamed for the opinions and words of a few... himself included. The FWA was too large and diverse to ask any one person to speak for the whole, and he had ideas for how to structure the FWA's leadership differently. "But simply being decentralized does not stand as a valid reason for less representation."
Aezzairrfhowrrhudrrl spread his arms, addressing the assembly as a whole. "Esteemed Senators, this is nothing but a thinly-veiled power grab, plain and simple. I move that we immediately throw out this agenda item."
((*I hand-counted at the end of June, apologies for any errors. These numbers do not fully represent the dozens of unmarked planets in the factions, but are the best I can do given the present resources))
As soon as Galek walked away toward his pod, Sibyl did the same. She didn’t want to stay near Aezz more than necessary, his smell was terrible. While the Governor of Brentaal walked toward her pod, she noticed the Trandoshan dressed with a Wookie pelt. Her face contorted in disgust.
It’s depressing to see how any waste can be declared as a sentient being.” the woman whispered to Dongwa, when the two were already on the pod. “I have no love for the Wookies, but dressing with the pelt of one is terrible. Besides, its smell is even worse when coming from something dead. I think that I can feel it from here.
I believe that what the Senator of Trandosha was trying to do is to intimidate or annoy Senator Aezzairrfhowrrhudrrl.” Dongwa explained, while Sibyl thought that only a droid could say such an absurd name so perfectly. “Even so, what the Trandoshan was doing is improper to a place like the Senate.
Indeed.” Sibyl thought that this Senator should be in a Zoo, like other animals. He wasn’t made for a place like this one, or even for the Galaxy as a whole. Before the two could continue talking about the Trandoshan, the Speaker had started the session. When the Brentaalan saw that the Speaker was a Rodian, she thought that until the end of the session the chamber was going to stink.
Even before Chancellor Xerxes formally presented his resolution of re-distributing the Free World Alliance votes to the New Republic and ISC, Sibyl had already supported it. The FWA was an entire failure, full of inepts and chaos. It doesn’t have a leadership anymore and should have been dissolved years ago. In her opinion it should entirely be removed from the Senate.
At least this way she would not deal anymore with the sugar baby that was Graves, the idiot that was Aezz and now that animal from Trandosha. Everything would be perfect. It would be even better if Tristodd disappeared, but one thing at a time.
Of course, the rabble of the FWA started to protest against it. They were supported by a misfit creature from Ploon II that probably was in the wrong place. With such language, it should be in the most seedy cantina of the Outer Rim and not in the Senate. Sibyl wondered what was happening with the people to elect these semi-sentient beings. Was the Galaxy suffering an outbreak of dumbness?
