There seems to be a bit of confusion about what qualifies as generitech and what doesn't. As we've gone along this timeline, there's been a bit of creep where people are posting full new tech profiles here, essentially bypassing the tech boards. Since this is likely unintentional, and because the generic tech rules may not have been clear enough, I'll reiterate them here.

First, from the workshop stickies:
Generic Tech - for generic technology that does not require a write-up. Generic means that you've changed nothing about a particular piece of tech other than it's cosmetic appearance, it's a general, non-combat piece of equipment that's functionally identical to an approved submission or a non-banned canon item.

So no stealth tech, no full phrik armor, and so on. When in doubt, make a write-up on the tech forums. If it's generic, Clayton will let you know and you can contact either of us to have it moved here.

So, what does that mean? It means this is a good place for reskins- for the posting of weapons or ships or armor that look unique, but are functionally identical to approved tech. You can also post non functional equipment that has some significance to you or that you want to use to add flavor for your writing- the belty mcbelt or the poncho villa, for example.

What the workshops/generitech should NOT be used for is a workaround for avoiding the tech boards. This is not the place for the development of new technologies. This is not the place for niche or unusual weapons, even if you don't think they're especially powerful, and not the place for fancy scopes and features or attachments. This is not the place for wizbang armor with functions drawn from several different approved sources. This is not a place for "modified" versions of ships with bigger engines and a bunch of rocket launchers strapped on.

It's helpful to boil your tech down to one line of TL;DR. If that TL;DR is anything more than "this is the same as vagabond armor but looks like this", or "this is a totally typical light blaster pistol with average range and capacity", then you're better off posting it to the tech boards.

If your tech submission is generic, the tech team will move it here. But if you're getting ready to post something here and you have to ask yourself "is this really generic?", it's probably not.

Feel free to post here with any questions, comments, or concerns regarding these guidelines. If you have specific questions about your own tech and don't feel comfortable discussing it here, you can always PM the tech team. It's up to you to follow the rules and avoid questionable tech items posted here. If you are using a bad generitech item and it comes up during a ruling in a story thread, you'll be in a bad spot. Be safe, rather than sorry.

*A note on the note: It's still perfectly acceptable to post wip tech to the workshops before you submit them to the tech boards. However, these should not be labeled as generitech, and their wip status should be clearly noted. Once they are properly submitted, they should be removed from the workshops.

Thank you for your informative thread.

Just making sure. Is this considered generic tech? All that does is provide night vision. Provides no protection and no other features (both of which are common place in approved helmets along with other do-dads like HUDs.) And still uses up my only function slot on the character of mine that it's on.

Also, I vote for sticky

Something like that would be fine, since it falls under the "non-banned canon items" category. It wouldn't be useable in conjunction with functional armors though, since it essentially adds a function.
