DESCRIPTION​

The GFG stingbeam pistol is a model of stingbeam weapon manufactured by Blackwell Munitions, a subsidiary of the venerable Blackwell Technologies corporation. Regarded as the "Thinking Man's Blaster", the GFG and other stingbeams are used by beings who tend to prefer non-lethal conflict resolution, but who appreciate the option of lethal force should the situation require its use.

The GFG is an unusually designed weapon; like most stingbeams, it does not have a conventional muzzle orifice, but instead a short spike which acts as the weapon's beam emitter. Unlike most modern blaster weapons, stingbeams do not fire self-contained bolts, but pulsed continuous beams. At range - which is short, about 10 meters - a stingbeam inflicts medium stun damage, and can sustain about 5 shots before depleting its power cell. At closer range - that is to say, shoved up against the target - a stingbeam is rather more deadly; losing none of its energy to maintaining beam coherence, it can inflict heavy damage, which is rather messy but undeniably effective.

When discharged, a stingbeam produces a piercing, whistling noise.

Stingbeams, being small and concealable but also low-capacity in terms of ammunition, are often used as holdout weapons by the beings who carry them. They are popular among diplomats, gamblers, executives and other, similar professions.
