GRAND ARMY RANKS

Private:
Private is the lowest rank in the Grand Army of the Republic. The holders of this rank have the least amount of privileges than any other rank in the Grand Army and the amount of missions and the type of missions they can partake are restricted. One must serve in the Grand Army for at least two months or show considerable merit in order to advance to the rank of Corporal.

Corporal:
Corporal is the second lowest rank in the Grand Army of the Republic, just above Private and just below Sergeant. Unlike a Private, a Corporal is a non-commissioned officer and may direct the activates of other soldiers, namely the Privates. One must serve as a Corporal for at least two months or show considerable merit in order to advance to the rank of Sergeant.

Sergeant:
Sergeant is the next highest rank above Corporal and below Lieutenant and is the leader of a platoon. Sergeants in the Grand Army of the Republic provide technical leadership as occupational specialists. One must serve as a Sergeant for at least two months or show considerable merit in order to advance to the rank of Lieutenant.

Lieutenant:
Lieutenant is the next highest rank above Sergeant and below Captain. Lieutenants are the Executive Officers of Company-Sized Units. While aboard Republic Navy Vessels, Lieutenants serve as Deck Officers, still outranking all other ranks below them. One must serve as a Lieutenant for at least two months or show considerable merit in order to advance to the rank of Captain.

Captain:
Captain is the next highest rank above Lieutenant and below Major. Captains are the Chief Executive Officers of Company-Sized Units. They also have the privilege of commanding Republic Navy vessels while in battle, though your experience determines the type of ship you command. One must serve as a Captain for at least two months or show considerable merit in order to advance to the rank of Major.

Major:
Major is the next highest rank above Captain and below Lieutenant Colonel. Majors serve as the Executive Officers for battalions as well as the Primary Staff Officers for Brigades and Task Forces. In addition, Majors command augmented companies in Combat Service and Service Support Units. One must serve as a Major for at least two months or show considerable merit in order to advance to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.

Lieutenant Colonel:
Lieutenant Colonel is the next highest rank above Major and below Colonel. Lieutenant Colonels command Battalion-Sized Units, Majors being their Executive Officers. One must serve as a Lieutenant Colonel for at least two months or show considerable merit to advance to the rank of Colonel.

Colonel:
Colonel is the next highest rank above Lieutenant Colonel and below General. Colonels command Infantry Brigades and Regiments. Colonels are also the Chief of Divisional-Level Staff Agencies. One must serve as a Colonel for three months or show considerable merit to advance to the rank of General.

General:
General is the next highest rank above Colonel and below Supreme Commander and it is the highest rank one can be promoted to before he must be appointed by the Commander in Chief. Generals are in charge of all operations within the Republic Military and work with other Generals to assure that everything is working smoothly. When onboard Naval Vessels, Generals are referred to as “Admiral” but that is only used as a nickname.

Supreme Commander of the Military:
Supreme Commander of the Republic Military is the highest rank within the Republic Military. One cannot be promoted to this position through conventional means, as only the Commander in Chief, aka. the Supreme Chancellor of the Galactic Republic, can appoint a General into this position. Those who hold this position are sometimes called “Supreme Commander” and sometimes “General”, though the correct usage is “Supreme Commander”. The Supreme Commander of the Republic Military oversees all operations in the Grand Army of the Republic and the Grand Navy of the Republic which, after The Great Territorial War, fell under the jurisdiction of the Grand Army of the Republic. Once being appointed to this position, the Supreme Commander of the Republic Military serves in this role for life, until he is fired by the Commander in Chief and the Commander in Chief only or until he resigns.

Commander in Chief:
The Commander in Chief of the Republic Military is the Supreme Chancellor of the Galactic Republic, making it the only elected military rank in the Galactic Republic. Before The Mandalorian War, the Minister of Defense served as the Commander in Chief but once Revan and Malak attacked the Galactic Republic and brought about The Jedi Civil War the power was given to the Supreme Chancellor. The Supreme Chancellor oversees all military operations as Commander in Chief and no large-scale military action may occur without his approval. The Supreme Chancellor serves no more than two four year terms in office before a new Supreme Chancellor is elected. Upon the inauguration of the new Supreme Chancellor, the one leaving the office hands all authority over the Republic Military to his successor. The current Commander in Chief is Supreme Chancellor Nathaneiqua Adarak.
