Renfry had planned to stay away from Dathomir for some time. Sure, she expected to come back again some day, but after all that had happened with the Forgotten and her own... rebellious streak, her relationship with the rest of her clan was a bit strained. The problem was that Dathomir was her home. Even if she didn't see the remainder of her sisters, this was where she felt the most connected to the rest of the galaxy. The magick of Dathomir was strongest here and it was where she was comfortable.

As so she had returned. Not with the intention of seeing anyone or even visiting her old home, but just to be present where she was comfortable. The galaxy was... not what she had expected. It was a wild place but in an entirely different way than Dathomir.

A part of her didn't even want to go back out there again, but she was too stubborn for anything else.

She walked among the remnants of the hovels that had been previously occupied by the thralls of the Forgotten and pawed through looking for anything left behind. There wasn't much. That was fine, she didn't really expect much. She knew the real reason she was pawing through the remnants of the area was because she was procrastinating going into the temple. She didn't know what the foreigners had done to the remnants of the Forgotten or those who had been drawn here. She wasn't sure she wanted to find out. She was just glad to see no one had opted to remain.

The rumors of what happened at this site went far and wide. There was an ancient power that had hummed here, and it called like a siren. Anything that had ancient roots always drew Emryc like a moth to a flame. He had written himself in for an off station mission that would see him accounted for not being on the station. In truth, he abandoned that mission half way, leaving two other Sith to fend for themselves as he ditched them at a refueling station.

Emryc instead found himself on Dathomir to investigate the rumors himself. He didn’t want any other Sith pushing their opinions on him or reminding him that this ‘mission’ served no purpose.

He found himself around an ancient temple that was rumored to be where it all happened. Emryc didn’t see anyone immediately in the vicinity, and he shrugged and made a beeline directly for the entrance. He wasn’t exactly known for being subtle...

Renfry sensed something amiss less through the Shadow and more through the ebb and flow of Dathomir's wildlife. She'd spent her whole life here up until recently, and with that came a fluency in how it acted and reacted. The sounds the birds made were different when something was out of place, and she gained the impression that someone was still here.

Her assumption was that the individual was somehow lingering from the Forgotten's captivity. She stood from inspecting one of the hovels and frowned, looking around for the source of the disturbance. Her energy bow was collapsed and slung over her shoulder as she didn't really expect any sort of a fight, but she wasn't thrilled if there were still others here. Part of the reason she'd helped the foreigners defeat the Forgotten in the first place was because the foreigners needed to leave. Dathomir was no place for them.

Her face twisted into an even more unhappy expression as she marched among the hovels in search of the disturbance. After a moment she finally spotted him and the frown didn't subside.

What are you doing here? she asked, a hint of impatience in her voice. She half-expected him to jump at her sudden question. She was surprisingly light on her feet and perhaps could have even passed unnoticed among the small hovels by most unacquainted with the Shadow.

Emryc was in the middle of walking into the entrance when the voice rang out. His foot was still slightly suspended in the air from almost taking a step. His jawline hardened, and he felt a sense of annoyance at himself for not sensing her there. He had been foolish to think he would be alone. He had exposed his back to her. This was something he would have to meditate on later.

He straightened up to stand on both feet now, tilting his head to look at her. His silver eyes looked out of place on this world, and so would his pointed ears. He knew things would be difficult with him being a male - everything he knew about this planet suggested that men weren’t trusted by the locals.

“About to walk into this temple, obviously,” He said smoothly, turning to face her. Emryc scowled at her and shoved his hands into his pockets, “Since you clearly won’t,” Was she just waiting there the entire time? Where the hell did she even jump out from?

“Are you here to collect my entry ticket or something?” He asked, but didn’t wait for an answer, rolling his eyes. His patience already gone, he shook his head and turned away. He next walked in through the entrance without a second glance back.

He could only hope that whatever kept the woman out and hovering instead of coming in would continue to keep her out.

She could now see that the invader was probably around her same age and... annoying. He was evidently quite full of himself making some casual quip before trying to wander off again. This did not improve Renfry's mood either and the fact that he decided to continue to march inside didn't help matters.

This isn't your home, why are you here? she asked, this time louder and with more annoyance in her voice than before. She could tell there was some connection to the Shadow in him, and that made her both wary and curious at the same time. He wasn't unlike those who had come and slain the Forgotten, but she didn't recognize him as one of those she had met.

His hopes that she wouldn't follow him inside were immediately dashed to pieces as she - without any hesitation - promptly marched in after him, watching everything he did. The last thing Dathomir needed was some outsider defiling the temple. Whatever differences the young Nightsister might have had with the Forgotten, she deserved a certain amount of respect. She had sacrificed a great deal to protect... well, everything.

Do you even know what this place is? she asked after a moment. He looked... out of place here in pretty much every way. Surely there was a reason he had been drawn here. Or perhaps there was something that Renfry could learn from him. So far, she had had little success in tracking down those religions of the wider galaxy that dealt with the Shadow, and what little research she had done didn't seem to indicate that the Children of the Manda were actually much of a Shadow-using sect at all.

To his great dismay, she followed him in like a lost puppy. He kept his gaze trained forward as he kept walking. He could feel the remnants of something dark here. It felt alive, and it was tugging to him almost on a visceral level. As the woman kept asking her questions, he raised a finger to his lips.

“Shhhh,” He looked around at the dark interior. He could smell the must from decay, and he could sense the remnants of what may have happened here. The Force lived here, even if it wasn’t whole. It was a faint imprint, and just enough left to weakly call out to anyone that would listen.

“If you shut your mouth for a second and just listen…” He trailed off, looking around till he found a sense of direction. His steps grew more confident as he walked deeper into the temple. He was methodical in his approach, as if he had a map to work with it. He was guided along the same path the foreigners had walked.

He paused after a moment and inhaled deeply. He closed his eyes, going deep into his thoughts and clearing his mind. He had to forget the nosy woman was there. Every bit of noise and distraction had to be shoved aside so he could catch that so very faint thread.

“I’m listening…” He whispered, trying to achieve utter silence.

Oh, so it was going to be like this. So he wanted her to shut her mouth and listen, did he? She could certainly completely fail to comply with that.

Why, so that I can make your trespassing simpler? I don't think so, she said. She had been in this temple before and knew its layout. She also knew that the bantha was heading in the direction of the Forgotten's tomb. Not that it was overly hard to find as one only had to take a straight line to get there.

You still haven't told me what you're looking for, and until you do, things aren't going to get any easier for you, she said. While she was curious why he was here, the statement was less about actually convincing him to talk to her and more about being a distraction.

What do they teach you Jedi, anyway? You have to throw yourselves at every problem without thinking? she asked. She was still far from fluent in the various Force sects, and for the most part assumed all off-world Shadow users were Jedi.

She debated using some really interrupting means to stop him, but was unsure. Despite not particularly liking his attitude, she wasn't overly excited about starting to attack him, but she had other troublesome skills at her disposal. She knew that some of her sisters would have thrown him to the Nydaks without a second thought, but Renfry had left Dathomir because she had a more... liberal view of the galaxy than most of her sisters.

Emryc’s jaw tightened, and he was sure he was going to pop a blood vessel from straining to keep his composure. How could this idiot be so oblivious to her surroundings? She was purposely making noise to make things more difficult for him. His eyes popped back open, and he stared at her for a moment. There was no jarring quip back or any means of being irritating to match her. He simply looked at her for a while, long enough to make her uncomfortable and second guess what she was doing.

“Have you noticed I know where to go without asking you?” He asked after a long moment, “Do you know where to go from here on your own? You know what is here, and yet you appear to be a bit lost yourself. It’s because you can’t hear it, can you?” He asked calmly. There was no smugness in his tone, and he wasn’t holding anything above her head.

He reached a hand out to brush the tips of his fingers along the wall, letting some of the old dust coat them, “This temple is old,” He lowered his voice,”Very old…” He looked around, “Full of memory...and anger,” Emryc looked at her again when he said that, “It does not distinguish where that anger is unleashed. Which means it's in both of our interests to be respectful.”

Emryc faded away for a moment before shaking himself back to the present. He offered the woman a grin, “I’m not a Jedi,” He said, finding the second part of her question amusing, “Our ancestors most likely threw themselves into problems without thinking. It taught them and shaped you into who you are. And it did the same for me.”

He paused for a moment before turning to walk along the path he began, “I don’t know what I’m looking for. I was drawn here because something calls to me and my curiosity compels me to explore,” He tilted his head to look at her as he continued walking, “Does that satisfy you?”

Renfry stopped talking not because she was intimidated, but because it seemed as if she finally might receive somewhat of an explanation. She listened to what he said, her suspicion that he was connected to the Shadow confirmed, and that fascinated her. The off-world Shadow users were among the groups she wanted to learn more about, but she was infinitely stubborn.

Not a Jedi, she thought. Then what was he? These off-worlders did a poor job of explaining any of their beliefs. This was an off-shoot of that and they all believed in "the Force" which they all described in cold, distant terms. It perpetually perplexed her.

As he finished speaking and asked if that satisfied her, she said nothing for a moment. She still had a frown, but it was more contemplative than before. It didn't satisfy her because she also had endless curiosity, but it was a start.

She knew the anger he spoke of that resonated in this temple. It was the anger carried by the spirits. They had convinced her to help the off-worlders kill the Forgotten, and Renfry could only hope it had been the right decision. And they were angry at the Forgotten for a singular reason:

Off-worlders aren't welcome here. The Forgotten is dead. The call should be gone, she said, though this time he might note that her tone was slightly less aggressive and more a statement of fact than an accusation.

Emryc sighed, “I didn’t know to come here randomly,” He gestured with his hand around the temple, “This place was not meant to stick out like a sore thumb. I came because there was a call,” He quirked an eyebrow as he looked at her, “A call that you can’t hear for some reason.”

He kept walking, not entirely sure what to expect. The call was still weak, and he had to truly focus to listen. Emryc remembered the warning about off-worlders and he grimaced. He stopped, spun on his heel and turned to look at her.

“Tell me the sequence of events you expect,” He said abruptly, “Say I say kriff it and listen to you and march back out. Say I get back into my ship and leave. Where does that leave you? You’re going to go back to sneaking around the entrance without ever stepping in? You’re going to keep with the what if’s knowing now that the call is still here but you can’t hear it?”

Emryc gazed into her eyes, narrowing his own, “Is that how you want things to play out? Because I’m not supposed to be here?”

His questions were designed to make her waver and lose her way, but she didn't. Curious as she may have been about him, there were certain things that were more important than that. No matter the disagreements that she may have had with her sisters, she refused to turn her back entirely on her upbringing.

Do you even know why I warn you away from this place? she asked in retort. It wasn't because she enjoyed simply chasing off-worlders around and harassing them.

Do you know why you're drawn here? she asked. She would wager the answer was "no," but that the answer being "no" was also why he was driven forward so much.

She stepped past him and continued deeper into the temple. Contrary to his statements, she was no foreigner to this place and though she secretly doubted her choices, she knew that entering was something she would have to confront.

If he followed her, they would pass through the doorway between the two massive statues. The room beyond was filled with cryptic carvings showing planets and people. Some of the worlds looked normal with indistinct land masses and oceans. Others had surfaces that were riddled with cracks and another looked altogether shattered. Above them all, was an indistinct shape. Almost like an energy cloud whose tendrils extended to some of the planets. The tendrils of the "cloud" etched into the wall continued toward a door at the far end of the room before being turned back, as if they were bouncing off of a shield along the frame of the door. It was clear that the carving was intended to evoke such thoughts.

In that room beyond, was an empty pool, ten meters across. Renfry couldn't help but ponder the fact that this was all open and laid bare now. Heavy, stone doors that had once been closed would become reclaimed by the jungles with time. Already critters gathered in the dark corners of the temple.

And in the room beyond the Well was the tomb. The Forgotten's sarcophagus was smashed open and her dried corpse exposed with a clean burn hole through it. At the far side of the room was the rotting corpse of the massive worm that she had manipulated to allow the foreigners passage to return and strike down the Forgotten. She bit the inside of her lip as she took it all in.

Is this what you came to see? she asked. It seemed possible that it was not. Perhaps some other call drew him here, but this was where the journey of most off-worlders ended. Typically much differently than they expected.

Emryc simply stared blankly at her as she turned around to fire questions back at him. Since she didn’t dignify him with responses to any of his questions, he didn’t feel obligated to do any different. He simply stared at her again, looking into her eyes quietly as if expecting her to do some kind of trick.

Thankfully, she got the hint quickly and began to lead the way in. He had to fight back the urge to grin as he kept pressing forward behind her. While he could find the trail through listening, it was infinitely easier with someone that actually knew this place leading.

The hairs in the back of his neck stood on edge as he kept walking. There was a haunting chill in the air, and it felt like a thousand little needles against his skin. The call was getting louder and louder, almost like a ringing in the ears after being somewhere loud for a very long time.

Emryc kept rubbing at his sensitive, pointy ears. He knew it wasn’t sound in this plane of existence, and he couldn’t explain how painful it was to someone that didn’t hear it. The woman, for example, was merrily skipping along her way without a care.

The stench of decay hit him as he arrived at the sarcophagus and took in the scene. He was barely beginning to analyze things when the woman spoke up again, barely audible over the sharp ringing he heard. Emryc glanced over with a glare.

“Why the kriff can’t you hear it?” He hissed, “You are a god damned Force user!”

Renfry was shocked, not because she couldn't hear the song, but because he could. The Forgotten had placed a pronounced song into the wider galaxy, capable of being heard even by those who had no connection to the Shadow. But with her death, that should have faded. It had faded. The fact that this one could continue to hear the song of the spirits... it was unprecedented. Never before had Renfry heard of someone outside the Shaman of Dathomir who could hear the song.

This wasn't possible.

Eithne -o haer, im nall- bo cin na. Hi ambar a n- sui cin, she said, her and even as she did, her voice echoed through the entire room as if played from unseen speakers as she raised her hand. And without warning, she placed two fingers against his forehead.

His eyes would glow bright green as neon and he would see the world through the second sight of a Dathomiri Shaman. The entire room was filled with spirits of the long dead, green beings floated around the room and the dead were far from dead. With that, he would now hear the song not only loudly, but clearly. Somehow it was both a harmonious song and a deafening cry all at once.

The Shaman of Dathomir were taught how to dampen it. To hear it quieter or to silence it when necessary. The histories of the nightsisters told of those who could not gain control of the sound and could not dampen the song. They were driven mad, sometimes possessed, and always short for this side of the Veil.

If he wanted, he would be able to pull himself away from the vision at any time by simply taking a step back, but if he didn't, the vision would end a moment later as Renfry withdrew her fingers. To her knowledge, never before had second sight been shown to an offworlder, but neither before had an offworlder heard the song on their own.

She was still frowning as she looked at him, watching for his reaction. She wanted to know what he was. Who he was. He defied her expectations of what should have been possible and she wanted to know why.

Emryc didn’t step back as she pressed her fingers against his forehead. His eyes closed, but he saw vividly. Scenes played out before him, and the stench of decay was gone. He heard the cry, and it was agony in a way, but it was also a song. He disappeared deeper within his psyche, opening himself up to whatever visions that came from Renfry.

However, he was gifted with the Force. He didn’t let her realize it, but he caught onto the tendrils of her mind. He grabbed hold of them and he pulled and pulled, from her mind and into his. It was without her realizing, and it showed him more things than she would have expected. His hand came up abruptly to catch her wrist to stop her from stepping back.

His eyes were closed and moving swiftly as if he were in REM sleep. Emryc finally let her step back. He slowly opened his eyes and turned to look at her. When he did, she would note that his eyes were brilliantly gold. However, they began to quickly fade back to his silver hues. He kept staring at her. The confident demeanor he had was shaken to the core, and he had a look of alarm.

Many seconds passed before he spoke again. Emryc lingered on what he had seen - what she had shown him, and what he had extracted from the locked confines of her mind.

“Were you….born on this planet?” He asked barely above a whisper, “From the beginning? To the locals?”

She was a bit alarmed when he grabbed hold of her wrist and held her hand there. Her first instinct was to hit him or to act in defense, but she didn't. Something held her back. Somehow she could sense parts of him and there wasn't a malicious intent toward her. He didn't do it to do harm to her, and while she may have hated being controlled or manipulated, there was an odd, preternatural sense of calm that she experienced in the moment.

There was a moment as Renfry withdrew her mind from the ritual and back to the room. It appeared to return to normal, but she knew the spirits of her ancestors continued to pass around the room. They were everywhere here, pervading every crevice and watching over her for better or worse. Whether she could see them now or not, the two were always being watched. Their fury was the very reason Renfry had undermined the Forgotten.

As they both came back to this plane of reality, she could sense something had changed in him. His eyes seemed to glow with a light that wasn't the ichors of Dathomir and even she wasn't sure she was quite the same. Her mind seemed to swirl in its own way.

Yes, she answered after a moment. For years, Dathomir was all she had known and only recently had she traveled beyond its borders to worlds that were far different than she could have imagined. Even the readings and teaching passed to her from the Clan's teachers didn't fully capture what was beyond the stars.

Was your mother from this place? she asked. Though she didn't know of any who had left Dathomir before now, there were others long ago who had. It would have explained his ability to hear the song, though she had her doubts about that.

You're not a Jedi, so what are you? she asked quietly. Somehow the initial hostility she had felt toward him had subsided completely and had been replaced entirely with the perpetual curiosity that plagued her.

There was doubt in his eyes at her words, but he didn’t contradict them. Instead, he simply offered a long stare as was his habit when he was being difficult to read. It was never done on purpose, but he knew it ended up irritating others. Thankfully, she distracted things with a question.

“No idea,” Emryc said after a moment with a shrug, walking over to inspect his surroundings. He pointedly avoided thinking about what he witnessed in her thoughts. Emryc was not in the fashion of digging deep into other people’s business, but it was too hard to resist when she opened herself up like that.

He was in the middle of prodding at the shriveled up body in the tomb when she asked her question. Emryc turned to look at her with a faint grin, “Can you not think of another Order that wields the Force the same way as your people have done?” He closed his eyes and called the Force to him, and she would be able to feel the energies pooling around them, “The very essence that lingers on this planet…” The Force welled up within him, traveling through his veins and to the tips of his fingers. It was exhilarating here, and he felt more powerful here than anywhere else.

“Can you only think of the Jedi? Or was there….another?”

Renfry wasn't sure what had happened, but the man seemed... shaken. Or perhaps it was something else. She still didn't really know who he was, but she was beginning to wonder what his connection to this world was.

She didn't know what other Orders were in the galaxy, and she didn't want to admit that. She still didn't full understand the difference between the Jedi and the... others. Or even if there was a difference.

I am... unsure, she said after a moment. She had met others in the galaxy who seemed... predatory. In fact, it wasn't unlike this one. They felt different than those who had slain the Forgotten.

You foreigners interact with the Shadow and spirits far differently than we do, she said. It was probably more than she should have let on, but she wanted more answers.

But they speak to you, she said. And he had chosen to follow it. He was curious as well. Perhaps he wasn't so unlike her. Or perhaps he was.

You seek knowledge? she asked.

“Us foreigners, eh?” Emryc quirked an eyebrow at her words, “We are all the same to you?” He couldn’t help but grin, “If you know how we interact with the shadows, then why are you so afraid to utter the name?” She spoke with enough familiarity to where he doubted she was ignorant of the nature of Sith. It was woven into their history, and into the stories of her ancestors.

When she asked her question, Emryc turned to look at her for a moment. He had seen what he had seen, and enough words were exchanged. He channeled the Force through his hand. He looked deep into her eyes as the Force began to coil around her neck.

“Yes,” He said barely above a whisper. He did seek knowledge. He wanted to see what she did when pushed to the limits. He wanted her to see what he was. He wanted her to know that he was no Jedi. He wanted her to witness exactly what her own planet empowered him to do.

The Force would put a crushing weight around her neck and cut off her breathing. He was more powerful than ever within this tomb. The more he applied the Force, the stronger he felt, and the more the winds and air around him changed. The chamber they stood in was beginning to have a visceral reaction to his actions. He wanted to see it for himself, and she was the only way for him to see.

She had yet to discover the name of the other Order despite her intermittent interactions with them.

I have yet to discover it, she admitted against her better judgment. Despite her pride, her curiosity was insatiable, and she wouldn't let ego get in the way of actual power. Most of the stories of her clan didn't differentiate between Jedi and other Force users. Indeed, she'd been taught they were all the same, and it was only through her own efforts that she'd begun to determine there were differences. She couldn't help but be angry that her own knowledge had been so hampered.

But she had no more time to consider it. No more time to discuss with him. She felt a crushing force around her throat and her eyes went wide. The air wouldn't come and she dropped to her knees, narrowly catching herself on her hands.

She didn't know why he was doing this, and at this point she didn't care. There was nothing but rage that consumed her. A deep fire that he wouldn't have sensed before now.

She could barely choke out words and her head was already beginning to spin. She could feel her pulse pounding in her head. Her fingers scraped along the floor frantically scraping against stone and the dust that covered it.

One of her fingernails tore free and blood began to follow the path of her finger before her palm slammed down. The words may have escaped her but the rune she had written in the dust carried with it what she needed.

There was an explosion like harmless green flame out from where her hand struck the ground and the room suddenly came alive. As before when his eyes had been opened, spirits now tore freely into this world and dove at the Sith, slamming into him, tearing at him with sharpened claws, and looking to rip him to bits. They screeched like banshees and the song was no longer a song but a furious wail.

He didn’t ease back, the Force taking a vice grip around her neck. It extended slowly from her neck and down her body. It constricted her, pressed into her, made her ribs start to bend inwards. A bit more pressure and each and every single one of them would snap. He was relishing it, and he felt alive. The Force was heeding his every call, obeying him as its master, and he felt it in the way the girl’s life began to start to slip. Her pain, anger, agony, all of it fed into him and he devoured it as a beast upon flesh. He ate as if he hadn’t been fed for years, and he drank from the essence of her life after a timeless thirst.

Emryc knew there would be retaliation. This was her planet. These were her people. And he knew what he needed to do to bring it to life. The spirits came alive then, and it was as if everything around him stopped. He could see their eyes, the details of their headdresses, the rage. He could see them plain as day, and so could she through her tear-filled gaze.

Emryc kept her grip on her, though it began to weaken. He felt the forces of the spirits shred into him. He still held on, keeping his gaze on the girl and looking into her eyes.

“By path of hate and praise of Andraste,” He chanted out as claw marks appeared along his skin and his clothing began to shred, “I bow to blood and carnage, to charge and to plague upon those not worthy,” His voice rose above the shrill wailing, tatters of his attire falling around him. His blood flowed from his wounds, and still he did not release, “With sight of hate, by command of the Force, I am weaver and reaper, the shaper of souls and their devourer. I lead the congregation of slaughter. I bring the revelation of the purge.” He did not remove his gaze from hers, his silver eyes now reflecting gold, “I bring a mercy of liberation. My path is deluge, my wake is holocaust, and my march is fealty.”

He dropped to one knee, weakened from the spirits and their assaults. Yet he valued that he could see them. He could see the wielders of the past. He could glimpse upon those that were that much closer to his gods , the gods he worshipped with every fiber of his being. Blood dripped on the tomb floor and he disregarded it, his entire upper body revealed and riddled with fresh wounds and cuts all over it.

“I am the servant. I am the priest. I am the undivided,” His jaw tightened as he continued to look into the windows of her soul through her eyes, “I am Sith.”

With that, he finally released her. He launched her clear across the room and into the tomb as if she were nothing more than a rag doll. His release on her quietened the spirits. He knew he would die if he pressed further.

He remained on the ground crouched on one knee, chuckling under his breath like a madman after a while.

“Did you see it?” He shouted out gleefully as he smeared his blood against the floor. He looked up towards where the girl would have landed, “Did you see them? Did you hear them? Did you feel them? Have you ever felt more alive? Have you ever felt more powerful?” He bellowed as he slowly rose to stand, That was a glimpse into the power of the gods. It was a taste of what can be harnessed and wielded.”
