DESCRIPTION
The Guardian-class patrol cruiser is a type of light, long-range patrol vessel which was originally designed and manufactured for the First Galactic Empire by Sienar Fleet Systems. Small but important, the Guardian filled an important role within the fleet, charged with patrolling the most remote sectors of Imperial space and maintaining the Empire's presence even on the most far-flung frontier worlds.

Though they are referred to as patrol cruisers, Guardian-class vessels would more accurately be referred to as sub-corvettes. The type is not much larger than the average light freighter, being 42 meters in length and having a crew of just 16 personnel, including its command staff, plus up to 6 passengers. The type is armed with a pair of ventral medium laser turrets, plus 2 fixed heavy laser cannons facing forward. This makes the Guardian exceptionally well armed for its size, more than a match for the smugglers and small-time pirates it was designed to counter; with such a small crew, of course, it cannot generally perform boarding actions, and thus is more likely to destroy its targets than incapacitate them.

Notably, the Guardian is theoretically capable of supporting up to 6 starfighters or other small craft, being equipped with external docking pylons on the ventral hull for this purpose. This will cut into the ship's already only average maneuverability, however, and even during the days of the Empire it was not common practice.

After the collapse of the Galactic Empire, most Guardian-class patrol cruisers reverted to the control of individual sector governments, where they more or less remain into the present day. They continue to be a menace to pirates, smugglers and other criminals on the fringes of Galactic society.

LEGALITY
Restricted. Guardian-class patrol cruisers are classified as small capital ships under Galactic law, and possess heavy weapons. As such, civilian owners will require extra licensing to operate one legally, and will receive increased scrutiny by authorities.

INTENT
To bring a ship from Legends canon into our site's fanon.

RESTRICTIONS
Guardian-class patrol cruisers are capital ships, and capital ships cannot be owned or operated by individual characters. These vessels may be used as faction assets, or can be operated by a group of at least 3 player characters who work together regularly.
