DESCRIPTION​

The Hammerhead-class frigate is an archaic model of capital ship which was once manufactured and sold by the now long defunct Rendili Hyperworks corporation. Developed as a successor to the venerable Praetorian-class frigate, the Hammerhead was larger and better armed, while having a reduced crew compliment. It did have some shortcomings - namely a reduced cargo capacity, fewer passengers and two less shuttles in its hangar bay - but was otherwise considered an excellent ship, and served in the Republic Navy for several hundred years as a main-line warship.

The Hammerhead frigate is 315 meters in length, with a distinctive vertically oriented bow superstructure mounting most of the ship's armament, as well as the command bridge. The ship is crewed by 475 personnel, and can carry 400 passengers, 4,000 tons of cargo, 8 months of consumables, a squadron of starfighters and 2 shuttles. Armament consists of 2 dual light turbolaser turrets, one on each side of the bridge, a single light turbolaser in a dorsal mount, a dual medium turbolaser turret in a ventral mount, and 4 dual light laser turrets in retracting mounts on the main hull, 2 each port and starboard. There are also 8 proton torpedo launch tubes facing forward on the bow superstructure. Top speed is 50 MGLT, and the ship has a class 2 hyperdrive.

The Hammerhead-class frigate was one of the longest-serving warships in the Old Republic navy, serving in various capacities up to the time of the Ruusan Reformations. Despite clear obsolescence, some examples continue to soldier on in remote parts of the Outer Rim, generally in the hands of small system defense navies and pirates. As the Galaxy again marches to war, however, some of these antique warriors have begun to reappear on the Galaxy's battlefields.

LEGALITY​

Restricted. Hammerhead-class frigates are classified as capital ships under Galactic law, and possess heavy weapons. As such, civilian owners will require extra licensing to operate one legally, and will receive increased scrutiny by authorities.

Hammerhead-class Frigates are large capital ships with heavy weapons, and capital ships cannot be owned or operated by individual characters. A faction would be required to obtain and crew a ship of this size, or a group of at least 2 players who work together regularly.
