Lucasfilm has officially announced that one of its Anthology films will be about the adventures of a young Han Solo. It will be released on May 25, 2018. It was written by Lawrence Kasdan and Jon Kasdan, a father/son duo. Kasdan, as many of you know, was the writer on The Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi, and most recently The Force Awakens.

The film will be directed by Christopher Miller and Phil Lord. They have notably directed Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs, 21 Jump Street, 22 Jump Street, and The LEGO Movie.

No word yet on who will play Han Solo.

They are really milking Star Wars now that Lucas sold out.

Also this will be something I will not watch...unless they get someone very good to play Han. I know Harrison Ford though the character lacked depth and had no real space or ability to grow, but despite that he created something iconic in the actions and facial expressions he used while in character. I feel like anything based on such an icon runs the risk of becoming way too cheesy, way too quickly.

I hope they get Shia Lebouf to play Han.

These two directors have a knack for taking a property that should, by all accounts, be awful and then turning it into something magical. Plus it has Lawrence Kasdan as one of the writers, and he wrote the best Star Wars movie and the best portrayal of Han Solo.

I am cautiously optimistic.

I hope it's done entirely in Legos.

I feel like this is one of those movies that will either be a huge hit or a complete failure. I think it hinges a lot on who they get to play Solo. If they get someone good, I think that this could be a really fun movie.

You guys know it's gonna be friggin' Chris Pratt. He's the new generic white guy and supposedly he'll be in the Indy remake as well.

Meme Lord? Yeah, I hope not. He just... there's something annoying about him, whether it's his sort of dumb looking face or watching too much Parks and Recreation. I can't take him seriously.

My chain of thought as well. This will be amazing, or total rubbish. One extreme or the other.

Dude's on track to become the next Shia Lebouf. Aren't you excited?!

Would have preferred a Boba Fett film, unless he is in this and the film has both younger versions of themselves.

He's too old to play young Han Solo.

I read somewhere that they want Pratt for a new Indiana Jones, unless those are just rumors.

He could definitely be Indiana Jones, yeah. Not my first choice but that could work.

Han Solo will presumably cast someone in their 20s, which is about 10 years younger than Ford was in Episode IV.

What do you mean?

25-30 year olds playing high schoolers is more or less the norm. I don't really think it'll be Pratt, but no one is too old in Hollywood, yo.

Yeah but you have to be able to suspend your disbelief when that happens. That's not going to be possible with Pratt.

He's far more likely for Indy.

I don't, but I'm also not going to jump onto an unnecessarily cynical bandwagon.

I will eat my left foot if Chris Pratt is young Han Solo!

Yeah, I don't really see him as a good fit either.

I saw a thing earlier today putting James Franco, Chris Pratt and Ryan Gosling (loooooool) as the potential frontrunners. But it was just an article on the internet, so it's all made up anyway.
