Hailee was an impenetrable enigma that Caelian couldn't seem to solve. Perhaps it was asking too much for them to make something from nothing, well, whatever it was that you'd call this. This emotional discussion was taking its toll and so he was happy that they'd decided to table it for the time and switch pace to the mission at hand. It was so far a subterfuge-type task, but he didn't doubt that they'd potentially run into danger when it came to killiks.
The handful of joined guards didn't seem too alert on the perimeter, which concerned Caelian slightly. Either they were extremely lacking in personal safety concerns or they felt safe and secure for whatever reason. The latter could only mean bad things for the pair, but between the two of them, they would probably be able to handle themselves quite well.
Caelian grinned as Hailee bounced herself up off the alleyway and onto the nearby roof with relative ease. Drawing on the force to join her, he quickly fell in beside her and took stock of the facility ahead of them. She didn't miss a beat and was faster than he was to the building, popping open a window. "Ladies first," he said with the cheeky smile that she was familiar with. As they both entered, they found themselves on an upper floor made up of metal grated walkways hanging up above the ground floor.
The paths didn't look particularly well maintained, nor did the rest of the building for that matter. It appeared to be the run-of-the-mill, old, and abandoned warehouse with rust and old paint chipped everywhere. They'd both quickly spot the large hole dug into the ground that led somewhere, and by the looks, it had been made recently. The hole was angled and large enough to drive a vehicle into which was presumably how it was dug so quickly.
From their vantage spot, they could also see three armed workers assembling electronics and some kind of devices on a bench about ten meters from the hole. Caelian looked back to Hailee with a worried look. "There are caverns below the city, if they're making bombs, they could be planting them anywhere before a major attack. We have to do something quickly!"
They didn't know how long they would have before this would occur nor how many such devices were already being deployed somewhere. Caelian wasn't being cautious enough as he slipped along the rusty walkway trying to position himself to drop down unannounced and surprise the joined workers.
That was until the metallic twang of twisted steel snapped underneath his feet, causing the Echani to lose both the element of surprise and balance as he tumbled downward. A loud bang signaled their arrival as the path slammed into the floor, slightly muffled by the ground below but still enough to be heard by the nearby workers. Caelian attempted to break his own fall with a tumble but being off guard ended up winding himself in the process with the impact and letting out a little pained groan.
If Hailee could find a way to stop the workers from raising the alarm, they could perhaps continue stealthily as the guards outside were just out of range to hear the crash but might soon be called upon. There was also the risk of whatever might be in the hole emerging, but for the moment there was nothing but silence in that direction.
