Dark Jedi of the Bogan
History

The Ospion Guardians

The history of the Dark Jedi of the Bogan can be traced back thousands of years. During the Alsakan Crisis between the Alsakan Union and the Galactic Republic, then-Grandmaster of the Jedi Order, Banik Kelrada called a conclave on Ossus to discuss the rising tensions and the possibility of war between the two organizations. A heated debate arose between Kelrada and another Jedi Master - Edo Tesu. Violence broke out between the two, and Tesu lost his hand in the duel that followed.

The following morning, Tesu was found in the courtyard, hung from a rope with his own blade stabbed through his heart. The rocked to its very core - none moreso then the Jedi Knight Sarina Lightell...Tesu's wife. Accusing Kelrada of treason and murder, Lightell could not abide by the Order's decision to imprison Kelrada. Disillusioned, she and many other Jedi left the Order.

These rogue Jedi continued to fight alongside the Republic throughout the Alsakan Crisis, dubbing themselves the Ospion Guardians and achieving a tense but peaceful relationship with the Jedi Order. Following the devestation of Alsakan, the Ospion fled to the Outer Rim Territories, fearing for their safety. It was there that they discovered the ancient world of Conscio.

Deeply immersed in the Dark Side of the Force, the latent energies of Conscio soon influenced and corrupted the unwary Ospion Guardians. Despite their goodwill towards the Republic, the Ospion found themselves more and more corrupted by the Dark Side.

The pivotal point of change, however, came when the Ospion uncovered the manifesto of Xendor, the first Dark Jedi and instigator of the First Jedi Schism. A great debate engulfed the Ospion - some favouring using the teachigns of Xendor, others abhoring it - and inevitably debate fell to argument, then conflict. The Ospion decimated themselves in a civil war. The survivors, now following the teachings of Xendor, called themselves the Dark Jedi of the Bogan.

For ten years, they hid, trained in secret, and grew their strength under the leadership of their enigmatic leader, the First Bogan. Though the reasons have been lost to time, the Dark Jedi eventually left Conscio, migrating to the icy planet of Ando Prime and decimating the descendants of the Order of Dai Bendu that still resided there. It would be another ten years before the Dark Jedi would announce themselves openly. By that time, the Great Hutt Wars were already engulfing the galaxy.

The Bogan Order

As the conflict between the Republic and the Hutts escalated, the Dark Jedi of the Bogan managed to avoid public attention for several years. On the orders of the first Bogan, they struck out against the Jedi wherever possible in several minor skirmishes alongside the Taung, who they had allied with. At the same time, the Dark Jedi brokered a trade agreement with the Hutt Empire, purchasing fleets in exchange for members of their order to train a new military arm of Force Sensitives - the infamous Darksabers. The culmination of their ambitions came at a brave strike against the Jedi Temple, which they sucessfully destroyed. This marked a significant downturn in Jedi activity during the war, and the influence of Darksaber eventually forced the Republic and Hutt Empires to sign a ceasefire.

In the waning months of this first conflict, the Dark Jedi of the Bogan underwent a significant cultural shift. It was in this time that former Jedi Grandmaster Banik Kelrada, now fallen to the Dark Side of the Force, came to Ando Prime. In a ruthless and daring move, Kelrada ousted the first Bogan, proclaiming himself as the Bogan Emperor and dictating several mandates that would lead to a complete metamorphosis of the sect. Seeking to expand the influence of the Bogan, Kelrada brokered an Alliance with the Hutt Empire, sending the order's best and brightest back to Conscio, deep in Hutt territory to begin the transformation of the Bogan into an Empire.

However, not all went according to plan. The migration suddenly left Ando Prime vulnerable, and combined Jedi and Republic taskforce capitalized on this, striking at the former heart of the Bogan teachings and devestating the temple that had been erected there. Victory was short-lived, however, as the Hutts then proceeded to ambush the Republic forces, breaking their lines and scattering the few remaining survivors across the Outer Rim. With their forces in disarray, the Republic was forced to sign a tenuous peace treaty with the Hutts, effectively ending the war for the time being. In the three year interim before open war broke out again, the Dark Jedi of the Bogan were all but forgotten.

The Bogan Empire

Another war between the Galactic Republic and the Hutt Empire was inevitable. After three years of tenuous peace, the galaxy was once again thrown into conflict as Emperor Tusa Ujalli Hai declared war once more. For the reinvigorated Bogan Empire, however, it presented an opportunity. Fueled by the Hutts' industrial machine, and striking out against the still crippled Republic, the Bogan Empire struck out in force at Republic and Jedi Order alike, gaining such decisive victories as at the Battle of Noob Hill, greatly expanding the Bogan's influence.

The continued rise in strength of the Bogan Empire also had an unexpected side effect - the first true empire of Dark Siders in the galaxy, the Bogan Empire altered the very balance of the Force in significant ways - much like what would occur during the Clone Wars. This tremendous shift in balance set a major precedent for the galaxy, and later influenced many great galactic powers, such as the various Sith and Galactic Empires - almost all of which were heavily ruled by the Dark Side of the Force.

This triggered a major shift within the ranks of the Bogan Empire itself. Emperor Kelrada stepped down as Bogan Emperor, to be replaced by Dhar-Kor Jord. The circumstances of this event remain steeped in mystery, but the event itself foreshadowed a considerable change for the Empire. Following his last public speech where he denounced the importance of all galactic powers and struggles save the agenda of the Bogan Empire, Kelrada unsuspectingly offended the paranoid Emperor Tusa, who proceeded to join in arms with the Jedi Order in order to destroy the Bogan Empire once and for all.

Though his ampaign against the Bogan was stalled by a daring invasion of Coruscant, Tusa's mad lust for galactic supremacy eventually forced his attention to turn back on the Bogan Empire. A long and bloody campaign ensued, which resulted in the devastation and ultimate loss of the Bogan homeworld of Conscio. Decentralized and scattered, the remaining pockets of the Bogan Empire fell into disarray, and were destroyed one by one in a campaign lasting many years. With the Hutt Empire now controlling the vast majority of known space, the galaxy fell into a dark period.

Though the Hutt Empire itself would eventually fracture and find itself largely destroyed from within by Hutt ambitions, the Dark Jedi of the Bogan never fully recovered. The loss of Conscio meant that many of the Bogan teaching were also lost, and what few Dark Jedi remained faded into the shadows, leaving little evidence that they had ever indeed existed. When the Galactic Republic finally managed to wrest control of the galaxy back from the Hutts, the Bogan Empire that had struck fear into the hearts of the galaxy was long forgotten. In turn, the Republic did all that they could to erase all history of a Hutt Empire ever having ruled the galaxy.

Since then, no order of Dark Jedi have ever been as dominant, before or since, as the ancient Bogan Empire. However, due to their influence on the galaxy - and arguably the Force itself - their legacy lived on, as the Sith began to rise in the galaxy, foreshadowing a umber of massive galactic conflicts for the next 14,000 years. However, the teachings of the Bogan itself remained, hidden and forgotten in the depths of space, and would continue to influence the galaxy when the order rose again.

Revival

The circumstances of the event that heralded the return of the Bogan way can be traced far back into history, during the Great Hutt Wars. In this period, Banik Kelrada hatched a plot to ambush and destroy Jedi Grandmaster Talzea Keldroma aboard his flagship, Conscio's Revenge. Though the ambush was unsuccessful, the great warship was plunged through time, a sabotaged hyperdrive sending the vessel and the crew on board far into the future, only to re-enter realspace in 1,022 ABY - shortly after the Siege of Manaan. The return of the vessel rocked the very fabric of the Force, sending ripples of Dark Side energy across the galaxy. The first to respond to this event was a female Dark Jedi known only as ACE - A woman who would go on to be the first High Lord of the Bogan.

When she arrived, she found the vessel stricken and derelict, but still somewhat operational. The halls were lined with armor and weapons covered in ash - the owners, disintegrated within seconds. The source of this attack eventually became clear - the only survivors, two teenage boys, both remarkably strong in the Force - one of whom was once a Bogan Acolyte. These twin children would go on to teach the soon-to-be High Lord the Bogan teachings as best as they were able. Fortunately, Kelrada's flagship still contained a treasure trove of information, holocrons and other assorted teachings on the Bogan ways, and, seduced by the temptation of power, the trio would only grow stronger as they delved deep into Emperor Kelrada's teachings.

Their growing power did not go unnoticed across the galaxy. Such was the depth of the Dark Side energies that emanated from the Conscio's Revenge that many Dark Jedi from across the galaxy soon began to swarm to the vessel. Even in the Imperium, it is noted that the Empress found herself drawn to this new source of power - however, with the Imperium still recovering from losses across the frontier, very few Sith undertook the pilgrimage. None returned.

As the Bogan ranks swelled, and the teachings of the old ways unified the Dark Jedi that came to them, the need for an established order was recognized. Formally declaring herself High Lord of the Bogan, ACE took the twin paragons as her wards and set in motion the repair of the Conscio's Revenge.

Within months, the fledgling Order swept across the Outer Rim, growing significantly in support. Drawn to the font of Dark Side energy on Dagobah, the bulk of the Order focused on establishing a temple dedicated to their teachings. Other operatives quickly seeded themselves amongst nearby worlds to spread the influence and deliver newborn Force Sensitives to the Order. Within a few short months of the formation of the Order, the Dark Jedi of the Bogan formally took control of Sluis Van.

The rise of the Bogan had truly begun.
