DESCRIPTION
Tython has always been an iconic world for the Jedi. Despite being a sanctuary for the most famous Light Side sect in the galaxy, the Jedi Order, the planet has a long history stained in darkness and violence. Over the course of 6,000 years, the planet's connection to the Jedi has made it the site of five separate battles and an attempt at total destruction. Although the Sith's attempt to destroy the world resulted in the death of all those on its surface, it was ultimately able to be resettled by the Jedi generations later.

THE FIRST BATTLE OF TYTHON
In approximately 7000BBY, the Jedi Exiles were first cast out of the Jedi Order. For decades, the Exiles grew in power, preparing to advance against the Jedi and Republic in a war of conquest and destruction once again. Without a proper army, thousands of Jedi perished in the war against the Exiles and their abominations, but the Exiles were undeterred. Their army of the dead marched on Tython and the ensuing battle saw the utter annihilation of the Jedi Temple; but the battle was a mistake. The then-Jedi Grandmaster Orus Fariya sacrificed himself to bring the great temple down around himself and the Exile generals, burying them alive. The resulting imbalance in the Force, caused by the battle, also triggered Tython's highly Force-sensitive weather patterns, summoning devastating Force storms that destroyed most of the Exiles' undead army and forced them to abandon whatever was left. The Jedi gathered their surviving warriors and used the chaos to push the Dark Jedi back to the Mid Rim.

RECLAIMING TYTHON (SECOND BATTLE OF TYTHON)
Despite the temporary defeat of the Exiles, Tython's surface was uninhabitable. With abominations roaming and Force storms ravaging the surface, no Jedi dared return to the planet for years until Jedi Master Imani Sage led a small strike team of Jedi to the surface, and, during the Second Battle of Tython, reclaimed Tython as the heart of the Order. Attacks on Ossus and Jedha by the fledgling Sith Order forced the Jedi to relocate to their newly won temple, making it temporarily the new headquarters of the Order. However, after newly-elected Jedi Grandmaster Wyck secured a temple in the planet's southern regions, the headquarters of the Jedi Order was moved and the temple on Talss (Tython's northern continent) was reorganized into the Jedi Academy.

SACKING TYTHON (THIRD BATTLE OF TYTHON)
As the Jedi Exiles formed into the first Sith Empire, their power grew and spread to fill the galaxy. With assets to spare and a goal of wiping the Jedi from the galaxy, the Sith discovered the location of Tython deep within the core and launched their attack. Under the direction of Dark Lord of the Sith Darth Kravos, the Sith launched an assault to purge the planet of the Jedi once and for all. The battle was a decisive victory for the Empire and one of the final blows to the Jedi that forced them into hiding for centuries.

FOURTH AND FIFTH BATTLES OF TYTHON
After nearly 500 years in hiding, the Jedi emerged into the galaxy once again to combat the Sith Empire. Taking advantage of Imperial instability, Jedi Grandmaster Arda Breaux organized an assault to retake the homeworld of the Jedi once again. The first assault was rebuffed by the Empire and it's Empress Aadya Drast who personally led the defense. The Jedi were forced to once more retreat and plan their next step.

Learning from the mistakes of the past and with the death of yet another Empress, the Grandmaster rallied the Jedi once more and launched a second attack to overwhelm the Empire. Further weakened, the Empire's grip on Tython failed and the Jedi once again reclaimed their homeworld. With the Sith Empire beaten back on every front, they were eventually driven into hiding and the Jedi held Tython for many generations until the Sith Empire rose again.

DESTRUCTION OF TYTHON
The galaxy had peace for nearly 5500 years before the Sith Empire arose once again. After years of war between the Jedi, Republic, and Sith, the Sith once more targeted the home of the Jedi. This time, however, they didn't toy with subjugation or conquest, but utter annihilation. The entire dark council gathered to perform a ritual to destroy the planet. A beam of energy, focused by a kyber crystal tore through the planet, tearing away a chunk of the world and killing those on its surface.Despite this destruction, that was not the end for Tython. Perhaps through the power of the Force that permeated the planet, the remnants of the planet began to sprout once again in the millennia since. Although the Jedi claim Ajan Kloss as their current headquarters, many Jedi still make the pilgrimage to Tython and its surface that has begun to flourish once again.

INTENT
This is site lore. Because Tython's history is one of the areas where our site canon diverges rather significantly from current Disney canon, I thought it warranted a write-up to explain for newer members or veteran members who have forgotten about the current and historical status of Tython. This borrows from some previous site write-ups, other lore articles, and previous plots involving Tython.
