HK-24

Affiliation:
Any that have survived would either be in the hands of private collectors, syndicates or independent, subject to appropriate modifications

Manufacturer:
Czerka Corporation

Class:
Assassin Droid

Locomotion:
Bipedal

Power Supply:
Rechargeable power cell, 96-hour duration.

Sensors:

Size:
1.8 meters

Composition:
An old, sub-optimal (compared to modern techniques) grade alloy of durasteel (though functionally still capable/powerful)

Tools and Equipment:
DESCRIPTION
The HK-24 was designed to impersonate protocol droids to avoid suspicion and easier facilitate the elimination of its target. Although the HK-24 represented a significant advance in droid technology at the time, it is no doubt dated when compared to the technological advancements that have come through since its conception. HK-24 has a few main traits that makes it competitive and still valuable in the current market (albeit at a cut-price compared to the latest and greatest).
  • Its translator unit provides it with conversational fluency in 'millions' of languages though it only possesses a full language model for approximately 5,000 of them.
  • HK-24's 'State of the Art' (at the time) Heuristic processor allows it to quickly learn and adapt to changing circumstance. This also includes the purge or modification of existing information in its memory banks - typically with manufacturer-installed languages and the like though, it requires a third-party to bypass the safeguards built into HK-24. This processor also provides HK-24 with a degree of 'cunning' which it judiciously uses when executing its missions.
  • Modularity/Adaptability has traditionally been upgraded, modified, reprogrammed and more. The HK series are generally known for their adaptability with Czerka even releasing a 'Pacifist Package' for one of its later HK series! A pacifier for an assassin droid? Who would have thought! HK-24 has been utilised as a bounty hunter droid, a protocol droid, security and more
  • Resistance to memory wipes (though not immune) due to complicated 'thought matrices'.
  • Very proficient in hand to hand fighting if in possession of a 'utility' vibroblade. Subroutines focus on the dismemberment of the enemy combatant and the unit has little combat experience with other melee weaponry (without rebalancing/reprogramming existing subroutines)
  • Deadly accurate/efficient with blaster rifles and sniper rifles as a weapon class. Also highly proficient with other blaster-style weapons but the lack of 'training' on other weapons reduces its accuracy with them, due to unfamiliarity with the weapon class' idiosynchrasies

LEGALITY
HK-24, being part of the HK line of assassin droids, is illegal to own, manufacturer or otherwise use. However, due to the rarity, age and the fact that HK droids have generally been repurposed or reprogrammed, the droid will only raise blaster-shaped eyebrows on the more tightly regulated/controlled planets.

INTENT
The HK assassin droids are an iconic part of the Star Wars universe, and we don't currently (I think) have any approved tech for their existence. In particular, HK-24 is quite 'weak' relative to other assassin droids like IGs or later HK series so it makes an interesting addition both as an 'artifact' that you can reward players from admin-run plots or events, but also as a playable character due to their significant independence when carrying out their missions/tasks. Having said that, the purpose of creating this tech approval request is so that I can play an assassin droid that is close to 'human' abilities (lack of excessive weaponry, built-in attachments, gotchas, etc) - I will also be making my droid kill-enabled in any thread he enters since I like the idea of death/destruction never being completely beyond my characters - if someone takes a sniper shot at him with adequate/reasonable planning, HK-24 will die. In the far future, I would love to have a 'Collector' bureaucrat/businessman style character who collects ancient technology, droids etc and HK-24 would be a good fit for this too.

RESTRICTIONS
HK-24 should not be purchasable/ownable without significant investment into explaining the backstory behind acquisition of the unit. Roleplays involving HK-24 player characters carry additional scrutiny regarding how the droid carries itself - the player must take extra care to stay true to the droid programming and to stay clear of 'emotion' in their decision making (unless justified through extensive roleplay) as well as underlining HK-24's difficulty in working cooperatively as a team - particularly if its team members are other droids.

7Z-3

Character and Roleplay Intent
  • To play an 'effectively' sentient droid and explore the subtle lines between life and machine
  • To get involved in a relatively harmless way with existing plots/bounties - droids are much easier to interact with
  • To kill characters that want to be killed (and so added to his lore). Please let me know if you would like 7Z-3 to take your character out in some creative way
  • 7Z-3 is permanently DEATH-ENABLED as far as I am concerned. What this means is that if you may enter any threads that I have started and attempt to kill my character - if I deem your attempt to 'make sense' (there is evidence of some preparation, the 'motive' is there (maybe your character just didn't like the look of mine at the bar) and you manage to best my character (not easy with an assassin droid) I will let it happen and this character will be gone. Kaput.

Name: HK-24 though he introduces himself as 7Z-3 as a safety precaution
Faction: None
Rank: None
Species: Droid
Age: >4135 years.
Gender: Male-programming
Height: 1.8 meters
Weight: ~250 kilograms
Force Sensitive: No

Appearance

For all intents and purposes he appears to be a standard HK-24 droid - red durasteel frame with evidence of use (paintwork scratches, carbon residue on parts of the durasteel). While ‘working’ you will find him wielding a standard blaster rifle or a utility vibroblade

Personality

7Z-3 has no love nor hate for bloodlust or death, like many assume of his kind. At best, he has a basic appreciation for well-executed plans and quick deaths. This follows not only from his desire to reduce the probability of his own destruction (the longer you keep the target alive, the more likely it is that someone will either free them, or find out that it was you were responsible) but also from some basic quirks surrounding his thought matrix and the significant time since defragmentation. 7Z-3 reasons in a standard axiomatic way that can be off-putting to those not used to it though is known for shifting abruptly into ‘sarcasm and humour mode’’ when necessary to build rapport - protocol training has its upsides!.

Biography

Chapter I: HK-24
7Z-3 started life as unit #7384 of the HK-24 production line equipped with all of the standard bounty hunting and protocol trimmings with little in the form of personality or independence. He was sold to Miro the Hutt on Nar Shaddaa where he acted as a mixture of security and debt-collector, with his thought matrix being regularly maintained and purged as necessary.

Chapter 2: Decommission
In a turning-of-tables, Miro found himself bankrupt and unable to refinance his debts. All property was confiscated and 7Z-3 was shut down and placed into storage.

Chapter 3: Biotechnological Supremacy
An untold amount of time later, 7Z-3 was sold to a private research laboratory (effectively a billionaire collector’s science playground) where he acted as a laboratory assistant. The principal scientist who he served believe in the self-determination of droids equipped with heuristic processors (and similar equipment) and so reprogrammed him with ‘Loyalty to the Lab’ as his primary directive, and a sub-directive to ‘Live and Survive’. The idea was that in the case of the scientist’s death, the droid would break free and roam the galaxy like any sentient being would.

Chapter 4: The Present
7Z-3, aware of his own illegality, drifted along the outer rim for many years, taking on whatever bounty-hunting jobs it could. 7Z-3’s ability to do any other work was limited by the prejudice of sentients against his kind. Droids were property, not beings capable of independent thought, so enslavement was a constant threat on the radar of 7Z-3. For bounty hunting purposes he just had to invent a third party who he represented, which he duly did. 7Z-3 eventually earned enough money to purchase a small apartment on Nar Shadaa under the name of his fake third party, and this is where he currently resides.

SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES
Expert Marksman - 7Z-3 not only possesses well-indexed knowledge on weapons, maintenance and recoil-patterns but also does not need to breathe. His photoreceptors are more efficient than a human eye which gives him an advantage over medium ranges, however over longer ranges he will still rely on either a spotter to direct his shots, or on the scope of a sniper rifle.

Skilled Bladesman - 7Z-3 can hold his own and efficiently track and respond to threats in hand to hand combat, however he would no doubt be overpowered by a skilled melee-focused opponent.

Slicer - 7Z-3 has dedicated a small segment of his memory banks to the latest exploits and security vulnerabilities published on the various information networks that he is privy to. He also has had a single finger upgraded with a retractable slicing endpoint. This gives him some moderate ability to slice outdated terminals though he would not be able to make any progress on modern computers without significant reshuffling of his subroutines.

Pilot - Like most droids specialised for independent bounty hunting, 7Z-3 has built-in subroutines for efficiently calculating flight trajectories, approach vectors, firing arcs, jump coordinates and other such things. Due to the nature of these built-in subroutines (effectively a library of complex mathematical functions pasted together in various ways), the calculation functions can in theory be adapted for other purposes (for example accounting for wind speed when firing a slug thrower) although this requires preparation and explicit programming.on 7Z-3’s part.

Languages and Protocol - 7Z-3 is fluent in approximately 2,000 languages and holds basic protocols, traditions and phrase-books for a few million more. The deletion of approximately 3,000 full language models has allowed him to incorporate new programming.into his memory banks.

Independent - 7Z-3, much like 4-LOM, Vuffi Ra and others, sets his own agenda and pursues his own goals. This curious behaviour is emergent from the underlying code that instructs him to ‘Live and Survive’’ which is extrapolated to mean ‘reducing the probability of decommission either by accident or malice’ and justifies all of his decisions.
