I'm a huge Star Wars fan, so it's exciting to find this RP. I used to RP on a forum Star Wars political RP, but that's been probably several years now. I'm quite excited for this new timeline within the rebooted Star Wars canon! Really liking what the reboot has done, although I do miss Revan being canon. I guess the only question I have that I didn't really find an answer for is this: when one makes a character, does the character automatically get a faction? Or must that character go join a faction? Like, would I start with "Sel Dol-Fon" being a Sith apprentice, or being a Force-sensitive that must travel to Korriban to join the Sith Order? Again, can't wait to get started in this RP!

Welcome to the site! You can do it either way, normally people start with their character automatically being in the faction, but people have made stories out of joining as well.

Expanding on Galavant's reply, the big issue with joining factions is the OOC application to join it and the Faction Leader approving your application. This basically entails the FL reading over the character profile and deciding whether or not the character is acceptable (i.e. not too OP, not outlandish, etc). Once that's happened, your character is added to the roster and counted as being "in" the faction.

Whether or not you wish to RP out your character's IC-rendezvous and subsequent initiation into the faction is totally up to you. You could write that your d00d/d00dette has been in the Faction this entire timeline but has been out of the spotlight or something if you wanted to go the other way.

Anyway, welcome to SWRP!

Welcome to the site! Your question is one we get a lot, and of course it's to be expected. I'm sure Padme will be firing something at your inbox soon, so keep an eye out, but I'm going to take the time to give you as good of a response as I can.

First off, thank you so much for taking the time to actually lurk through the forums and see what is occurring here. Explaining the concept of timeline changes can sometimes become confusing, but it's clear you get where we are going. Despite the fact that much of the canon is no longer canon because of whatever business it was in 2014, we are treating as much of it as is convenient as canon. This means that although purple lightsabers aren't in canon, you can still have one; stuff like that. Revan is something that is so widely accepted and popular that, until the Star Wars people explicitly state that he is not canon or overwrite the history involving him with something else, I feel everyone will continue to treat him as "as-good-as-canon." So, if you had an idea revolving around Revan, carry on.

Now, I'm sure you will have noticed today that a change in the rank structure was announced. Previously, we required new members to start off as Padawans under the belief that they needed an acclimatization period to adjust to this style of roleplay. After 4 years, the staff have felt that this hasn't worked out as expected, and are changing it to allow you to immediately start as a Knight-level equivalent. However, the training phase is still perfectly optional, should you prefer the story and interactions you get more than going straight into timeline critical events. Often, I personally find training rewarding, but that's because I view it as more than a simple speedbump.

Your Sith Apprentice, for example, can start as an "Acolyte" in the Lords of the Sith faction (permanent name still pendng) - you can start as far along in his recruitment story as you feel is necessary. If you want to start even prior to his recruitment, you can, and eventually join the Sith. Alternatively, you can do retrospective threads with other people to "re-enact" your characters past, which can be fun and rewarding.

Ultimately, the story is yours; you start where you want to. If you're interested in getting people to help you carry that story forward, and you do intend to work with the Sith, then perhaps I or another Sith can help you. Post in the Sith DOTR workshop thread here (I shamelessly linked to my post which displays an exhaustive list of all the current Sith DOTR characters and also interested members) Feel free to participate and ask as many questions as you need to in that thread!

Once again, welcome to the site! My inbox is empty so if you have any questions then fire away!

Appreciate all the assistance, ladies and gents! I think I'm going to wait to actually start until the timeline switch is complete, but I will be working on character ideas!
